Romulo Barral VS Saulo Ribeiro / World Championship 2007

This match is a gem! I recall reading an interview somewhere where Romulo said he fought Saulo for the world title. This looks like to be his first! He said how when he was a blue belt at worlds in 2002 and Saulo was already multiple black belt champion since the late 90s and also took 1st place in 2002. It just goes to show that the younger generation will carry the line and pave the ways for the future generations of black belts, and the cycle continues on and on. Not taking anything away from Saulo either since he has already cemented his legendary status. And its insane how 10 years later, 2017, Romulo still fought at the highest level. He lost to Patrick Gaudio (the infamous foot lock romulo would not tap to) in the semis.

Saulo Ribeiro will always be my favorite bjj fighter, even to this day he still competing others youngers than him are not.

Ribeiro just couldn't deal with Barral's spider guard. Easy for me to say, but trying to pass from the knees clearly wouldn't work as long as the control over the left elbow was so tight. He had better success in their rematch at ADCC where you can't play spider.
