This is the most satisfying Earl thrashing I've ever heard. Ronnie summed it up perfectly here, he's an utterly incompetent employee that freaks out and starts panicking the moment someone shines a light on him while he's trying to hide in the shadows and fly under the radar. He wants to do as little as possible because a) he's lazy and b) he's bad at every aspect of his job description. As soon as the show's over he's the chattiest guy in the office without a care in the world. So comfortable that he regularly naps at work. Buys groceries specifically for work. Stays in the office into the late evening so he can watch the Yankees and wander the empty halls pretending to be a famous radio personality. He really is a pathetic person. His pathological lying and extreme fear of being exposed as incompetent is so entertaining to listen to though.

Dave is a professional fool. Many jesters can sense that precise moment in which the audience stumbles into awe at their buffoonery but few can then hijack the ship and begin steering it without anyone wondering why a clown is now piloting. It's the feint within a feint within a feint. I despise Dave for how calculated these moments are and how they are just a plot for sucking up as much air time as possible. Why such venom? The jester looks upon the throne more than any other court subject. The wolf he becomes against Fez after his second stent might be one of the lowest things I've ever witnessed in entertainment. It can be very nasty business when fools covet power.

@@july1730 Makes perfect sense. Dave knew he was the idiot stunt boy so he leaned into it as hard as he could because it meant more attention from his beloved Mr. B & the audience. Same way that Bobo from the O&A show would "let himself be taken advantage of", it was all part of a bigger plot to have people pay attention to him, whether they liked him or not. The downside of playing the fool constantly is after a while, that's what people are going to think of you & nothing will change it.
