Melissa M No, it's because the dough takes a half hour, or more, and the toppings take 5 minutes.

He absolutely broiled it. Pizza ovens heat from the bottom up because it's suppose to cook the dough and everything else gets the heat through the dough and the heat surrounding the oven. If you use a regular oven and broil it, the dough will never cook cause all the heat is from the top.

It seems like everyone says you do it differently. A caller said you need to get a metal sheet with holes. He was probably joking but do you preheat the stone, cook the dough a little bit, put the toppings on and put it back in? I see pizza places all the time put the sauce on the raw dough. It seems like the only way is just trial and error
