Ron: I chose principle over friendship. I suppose there is no principle in honouring a friendship. And when Ron says that he could have fallen on his own sword what does that actually mean? That by not apologizing you would lose your job? Start your own coaches corner with Don. That would have been the wise thing to do because now you are going to be irrelevant. Do you honestly believe that the people writing into the show complaining about what Don said were the viewership? They were social justice warriors that were mass emailed and directed to bombard the show. They don't watch the show. This is the new age where there are websites completely devoted to large groups of social justice warriors waiting for orders on their next hit piece. The only people feigning outrage over this are the SJW's, politicians and media who have an agenda to convince us that our country is a post-national state in which preserving our traditions and culture is not NEARLY as important as others new to Canada.

With sincere respect and best wishes to DON CHERRY: "IF YOU CAN KEEP YOUR HEAD WHEN ALL ABOUT YOU ARE LOSING THEIRS AND BLAMING IT ON YOU ... IF YOU CAN BEAR TO HEAR THE TRUTH YOU'VE SPOKEN TWISTED BY KNAVES TO MAKE A TRAP FOR FOOLS ..." I dedicate this poem to DON CHERRY - a Man!

Wait, so you're telling me that Cherry doesn't care about Veterans at all and HNIC prepared him "puppet" words about poppies and Don went off script? Otherwise I'm really confused to what puppet words he was supposed to say since you're saying whatever stuff about poppies/veterans he was supposed to say wasn't his own words or beliefs.
@shalimarsgirl4 жыл бұрын
No. That's absolutely not what I am saying or what I meant. I did not say that "whatever stuff about poppies/veterans he was supposed to say wasn't his own words or beliefs". When HNIC (Sportsnet) asked Don Cherry to apologize, they gave him the 'puppet' words in a statement that they prepared, of exactly what he should say to the public. Don Cherry wanted to say his own words and was not permitted to do so. Don Cherry is not a puppet. He sincerely stood up for veterans and poppies. The intended meaning of his words were twisted by others and misunderstood.

Oh please...if you aren’t “bots” then you are completely confusing what Ron meant with what Don meant. Ron was clearly speaking to the viewers and those using social media...that was the target of his “you”. Don was clearly referring to immigrants to this country who in his view were not showing enough respect towards veterans...that was the target of his “you”.

We all remember veterans i blame the royal Canadian Legion. They didn't even stand up for Don. I had know idea poppy donations was on the decline. RCL should promote the Poppy with a new strategy my aunt and cousin didn't know about the poopy until they took the citizenship test. They wore it because I told them. They never could get a poppy because they ship at a Indian grocery store and the RCL is not there at other ethnic grocery store. They went to best buy to get a phone cable then seen the Poppy donation station the first time. I love Don and hnic im 47 years old came here when I was 4. I'm sad he is gone and want him back. But he did offend me and I do believe he didn't mean it. My mom watched him when she barely understood English. If Don told her on TV please people this is our history and this is why and I want everyone wearing poppies in the stands and in the malls and every wear my mother would have gotten 5 of them. As an immigrant family for the record alot of us or most of us want Don back, and it wouldn't take much to do to have him back. I guess that's up to Don. I didn't say apologize. I said it up to him to come back to the fans the country. He has the power to do this. I will miss him. No one is happy about this. No one. We are Punjabi and we don't watch Hnic in Punjabi because we don't understand it. It's for Punjabis in India and around the world who most of us are die hard hockey fans. One of Bollywoods biggest acts and tv show, the host? is Oilers bleeding lifer and wears his oiler jersey on the final of the show when 300 million people watched the show. More then the Superbowl.!!!!!! Please understand people with limited English and limited knowledge of Don Cherry wouldn't know what he ment. I'm tired of people mad at Don and Ron and Rogers. I'm not going argue with anyone about this because evryone is right when they have interpreted the words to what they think. Don Cherry uses the words YOU PEOPLE on many shows when he describes a group who ice the puck or the group that does alot of cherry picking he will start off a topic on goalies and then refer to the goalies as YOU PEOPLE while the segment runs. Don's knows this and sports net and Rogers. Don could have apologized and said I constructed my paragraphs different. Don did not attend or get a major in broadcasting an English grammer. He deserves a second chance as do bank robbers,but even the bank robbers explain the story to a judge which represents the crown of the country her Majesty which represents the people. Then he or she is on their way. We miss you Don. But in a old Irish saying it takes 2 hands to clap and one fist to punch. We know your better then that. Shame on all of us for not getting along.

Principles, on standing for veterans Ron. If it was democratic and yo would hear all the `you`` as you mentioned, you should realize a lot of people are not in agreement with the accusations made. Hey Ron, This is exactly why Bobby Orr is the only hockey player and Gentleman I will ever stand in line for an autograph. He almost missed his plane waiting for myself and 2 of my boys at the time because he wouldn't leave until he gave us his picture of his famous goal, autographed! He has integrity, and respect for his fans just like he did for all his teammates on and off the ice. Repeat after me Ron..."teammate"! Teammates have each others backs 100% of the time. Don Cherry was given a longer leash and the times he stepped a bit too far, your job was to have his back. You admitted that you weren't sure about the words he chose to use and yet instead of jumping in to help him ( an 85 year old man-with all his faults and all the GOOD he has done), you simply nodded your approval and gave your thumbs up. When they stabbed him in the back on Remembrance Day rather than have a serious sit-down to solve this issue with you as well, you had the option of standing firm, "if he goes, I go"! A much better door would have opened for both of you AS A TEAM! Good luck to you Ron. My guess would be that Don Cherry will have a bigger and better door open for him soon and I am very certain, even at his age, he has learned something very valuable from this experience, not only about hockey but about people who have his back when his leash stretched a bit too far-which YOU all knew and should have been prepared for. Let the first one of "you" who has never made a mistake throw the first stone! You meaning "Everyone"!
@michaeldorosh50474 жыл бұрын
I've yet to see anyone defend the quality of the work Cherry was doing in the last couple of years. He didn't even know what clip he was looking at half the time, and he couldn't formulate sentences fast enough to keep up. It was a sad decline and he should have either left, or moved to a platform that better showcased his enormous hockey knowledge. Sad for all of us that he didn't. MacLean proves in this video that he still has game. Cherry should start his own platform - KZbin, podcast, something - where he can go at a pace better suited for him, and his politics and patriotism won't be as inappropriate for.

in '97, when Don only said "You people." He was addressing everyone. Last week he said, "You people love … you people that come here, whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey,” It's the "You people that come here" that got him in trouble with his employers. I also think the bigger issue for them was that he wouldn't apologize. They didn't want to let it slide. There you have it.
