Ron Pickering was a British Coach and Commentator who passed away in February 1991. This is a short tribute that was aired by the BBC to mark his passing, and shows his versatility as a commentator and his passion for sport and athletes.

A very principled man extremely passionate about the sport he loved , athletics and also a brilliant commentator. In the 1980s I remember the voices of Pickering, Coleman and Stuart Storey from places such as Moscow, Los Angeles, Oslo, Zurich, Brussels, Helsinki commentating on a golden age of British athletics.

I well remember Ron Pickering presenting We are the Champions when I was growing up. So he died when I would have been not yet twenty one. Takes me right back to younger days!
