The focus of the seminars is on the concept of the refrain and its relationship to music. The first lecture addresses the relationship between territory and the refrain as outlined in A Thousand Plateaus. The second concentrates on Olivier Messiaen, one of the “cosmic artisans” mentioned in the refrain plateau, who offers musical instances of the interface between territorial and musical refrains. The third lecture is devoted to the image of the musical score by Sylvano Bussotti that provides both a visual and a musical introduction to A Thousand Plateaus, as well as an instance of radical deterritorialization of the territorial refrain.
