Maureen O'Connell-Herrick - I met President, Ronald Reagan at Hughes Aircraft in Orange County, California in 1983. Reading this debate, I now recognize how grateful I am to have lived in the 80s, now living with Biden in office and Miss Donald J. Trump. Living now in an unrecognizable United States. The two presidents going in history, RONALD REAGAN and DONALD TRUMP.

For a guy in his early 70s, Reagan was looking good and had a fantastic head of hair!.... Mondale was completely trounced in the election, with Reagan taking 49 states and almost a clean sweep. Mondale, not helped by his link to Jimmy Carter as VP, no doubt a kind and decent guy like Carter but he was never going to beat Reagan in 84, no one would have.

I remember watching this debate. Mondale looked haggard, with huge bags under his eyes; he looked much better in the first debate. When answering questions, President Reagan looked at the the person who asked it, while Mondale looked into the camera. After President Reagan's age joke reassured voters, the election was over and Mondale later said that he knew it.

My all-time favorite part of this debate was at 32:45-33:30. What Ronald Reagan said at 33:16-33:30 was an absolute classic & in my opinion, what he said at 33:45-34:00 was just as awesome. I was born in early-January of 1989 & always idolized Ronald Reagan--hence why I'm a Conservative. I always looked at debates/speeches/etc. that Ronald Reagan gave during his tenure as President & when he was on the campaign trail in 1980, respectively, as well & got more of an in-depth understanding & feeling as to why I looked up to him, as well.

This is the most revealing and entertaining presidential debate in the TV era, with the most bizarre ending. Regan had a bad first debate. The country wasn’t quite out of the economic doldrums and the media was hounding Regan about his age. Mondale was full of himself. He kept saying what a president should do and must do. But he never said what he would do. He came across as a bore. Regan prepared and demonstrated to the entire country he was still sharp and knew what is vision for the country was. He was amiable and connected easily with the viewers. The age question was an absolute home run. His only blip was when he wandered off at the end and they had to cut him off. He became the great communicator that night and country rewarded him with a 49-1 state rout. Watching from the prism of 40 years later I was surprised at how far left the democratic have come. Mondale was considered pretty far left back then but he we would be too conservative for today’s democrats. He wanted to build a wall. Regan wanted amnesty for some. My, my how times have changed.

That what u said: looks a lot like it’s cockeyed view. Trump was a bigot and only cared bout himself. The Trump spit on Reagan’s name, tried to capitalize on Nixon. While actin out his own sexual fantasies&activities on the whole stage. When he said he won. That wasn’t true. Biden is doing a good job. He herited the COVID19 crisis from Trump.Oh and Trump caused a insurrection. All because he wouldn’t except his loss. Lots of independent voters r being turned off by trumps hand picked candidates. Their being voted against. There’s no malicious in my heart. This isn’t out spite. But love for my country.I was taught. We should learn from US History&from world history. Oops forgot Trumps domestic policies were bad. And internationally he was terrible. He was mocked, teased, made fun of,laughed at&etc. True even Reagan’s domestic policies werent so good. His international policies were good. We needed Reagan to gives us hope. But I dont believe in top down approach. But bottom up approach. The only thing that gets me. Both Pres don’t want to give ppl like myself a $8000 increase on much u can have. Right now it’s stuck at $2000 dollars. I know several on here want it. To make inflation bearable.

President Ronald Reagan’s famous quote “My opponent's youth and inexperience” 32:45 The Second Reagan - Mondale Presidential Debate of October 21, 1984. Moderator: EDWIN NEWMAN - formerly of NBC News and now a syndicated columnist for King Features. Panelists: HENRY “HANK” TREWHITT - diplomatic correspondent for the Baltimore Sun. MR. NEWMAN: Mr. Trewhitt, your question to President Reagan? (The President’s Age) Mr. Trewhitt. Mr. President, I want to raise an issue that I think has been lurking out there for 2 or 3 weeks and cast it specifically in national security terms. You already are the oldest President in history. And some of your staff say you were tired after your most recent encounter with Mr. Mondale. I recall yet that President Kennedy had to go for days on end with very little sleep during the Cuban missile crisis. Is there any doubt in your mind that you would be able to function in such circumstances? THE PRESIDENT: Not at all, Mr. Trewhitt, and I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience. [Laughter and applause] If I still have time, I might add, Mr. Trewhitt, I might add that it was Seneca or it was Cicero, I don’t know which, that said, “If it was not for the elders correcting the mistakes of the young, there would be no state.”

How can something this serious occur in an administration and have a President of the United States in a situation like this say he didn't know? A President must know these things. I don't know which is worse, not knowing or knowing and not stopping it."

When it comes to the question of illegal aliens, let me tell all of you a very true story of one illegal person who came to the USA and tried to insist in our army and go and fight in Vietnam for a country he was not even a citizen of ,and would have given his life for. This is not a new story but this is something that has happened over and over again ever since our first president was at that time was commanding a rag tag army that had a almost nonexistent supply to do the impossible at that time, his army was made up of people from other countries, so in my friends case willing to help like that join our army and fight our war and hide the truth of being illegal has my admiration for ever. And he did not even speck English, anyone willing to do that can be my friend and be welcomed at my home and his name will be household word in my fathers eye's, you all should rethink about what you call illegal alien , was the smartest person I've ever had chance to have called my friend
