Hey guys, so this stopover was only planned to be part of an episode until the events happened and it became a whole story on its own! As it happened. What a crazy night we will never forget.

My mate and I got caught out on a King Tide one night and we'd polished off a box of beer, he woke up to the sound of water braking on the swag, anyway I was passed out I'm a deep deep sleeper, he said it took him between 5 and 10 minutes to get me up before I got swept out.

Rope swings never get old. Mannn, that would have been rather exciting. Cool that you guys could experience it and get it on film. We all speak or hear of such things, but never get a good feel for it. This REALLY let's ya see it first hand how quickly mother nature can change things.

Yep king tide at Dundee Beach NT camping mouth of the river. Mrs woke me up to water right at us and retreated to roof rack of car. Woke up water was right at the car with open 100m or so away from us. Lesson learnt there.

So cool! Awesome to experience a rain event like that, so critical to the desert ecosystem and yet an abundance that clearly contrasts with the sparse landscape I bet the rain may have also cleared the atmosphere of dust helping out your astrophotography as well

Although I've never been flooded out while tent camping, I was part of the rescue crew (several decades ago) that had to rescue campground guests, that were next to a river. Heavy equipment was brought in because the water got so deep within a few hours & then overflowed. A bucket loader got into deep enough water that the air in the massive tires made it float! 0_o /Stay vigilant people, & check the weather forecast. We saved a lot of people that night!

This happened to me and my mum and step dad when I was about 6 years old - we went to stay at Ross River, NT, from Alice. As we got close, we had to go over a couple of small river crossings. Half way between two, there were flash foods from the rain which had already hit upstream, and all the river crossings flooded over big time. We tried to go forward, but it was too deep, so tried going back to the last one and that was already flooded too! I spent the night sleeping in the boot of the car, while the others stayed up in the pouring rain to make sure we didn't get washed away by flood waters 😅🤣 I still remember it vividly, seeking out the centre console thing in the boot to watch the lightning and rain haha 😅✌🌱
