I have a pavlov response to the modified intro song these days, coupled with your superb videography and an iconic truck. what a pearler of an ep

One of the best Modified episodes yet Ronny. Great to see the old rig still in such good and close to original condition. I would agree with adding Air Con and maybe power steering but personally think they should keep it as close to original as possible.

It looks Gorgeous, to my untrained eye it looks pretty bog standard and if you can it looks far better then modified stuff. I can see why folk feel the need to chop and change but this is simply too good to chop it up.

All you kids amuse me (a little bit), talking about Elsie like she’s bloody vintage or something. I use to drive around in one of those when I was a young fella & was like a pig in shit. It pretty much was the best, the bees knees of 4x4 & a great all rounder. You could drive down the paddock with her & drop some hay out the back or take her along camping…….the only difference was the amount of hay you loaded into her. There was none of this bullshit the bolt to vehicles these days. I use to cruise the beaches in her with a couple of boards in the back or if you were real keen stay overnight so you could be first on the breaks in the morning 👍 Back then I was fairly popular with the ladies too let me tell you & there was nothing quiet like lobbing up to a beach party somewhere……beers on ice in the back of the Troopy…..ghetto blaster on the bonnet, a cuddle or two in the back of the troopy, Ladies love the troopy 😉 the young fellas of the 2020ies couldn’t hold a candle to me…… I was like a rat with a gold tooth 😂 Anyway Elsie brings back memories of a TIME NOT SO LONG AGO! Maybe you could ask that young couple if there was a pair of old Okanuis in the back of her when the picked her up 🤣 Good days back then …..So cut out this old girl shit because if she’s old that would mean I’m old too. Whilst the old HJ47 didn’t have aircon, it had the floor kick panels & if you angle the 1/4 windows right the wind races in there……& it’s pretty much the case nothing stops them really, I had some great adventures in that Troopy…..not a single drone, camera (didn’t own a camera), no selfies and absolutely NO FUSS. I naturally progressed from the 40 series into the 70 series and will be taking delivery of my last 78 Troopy in a few months time. They can bury me in that one for all I care. I never saw the need to go into a 100 series or 200 series, a step in the wrong direction for someone who likes dust a little bit too much imo. Great episode Ronnie 👍. I hope to see Elsie on the road someday 😍

Thanks Ronny, Matt and Holly for bringing back memories of our HJ45 that my wife and I restored and travelled the country in the late 80's earlie 90's. Our landcruiser went everywhere and was our daily drive without A/C and power steering, so Holly my wife feels your pain. Now that our kids have grown up and after dragging an off-road camper for the last 26 years with all the mod comes all over this county, we are setting up our 120 Prado which we have had from new to travel the country similar to your setup. Hope to see your guys on the track some day.

Seems like a ton of weight on the roof; 90 kg for tent, 10 for awning, 25 for rack, 15 kg between maxtrax, gas bottle, shower awning and solar pannel? Anyone know the roof rack weight limit on the 40?

What a cracking episode, watching Matt and Holley on modified is excellent, the old jigga Elsie is beautiful guys and you should be proud of her which we know you are. And the 40's are just magnificent old school 4wd's, and yeah I know exactly about the aircon situation as my dad's FJ40V had no creature comforts which made it just a amazing experience, and my biggest regret was not buying it off dad 😡 Anyway safe travels Matt and holly, Ronny great work as usual mate 👍👍

What a great vehicle brings back many good memories. None of my early 4wds had air con or power steering. I started four wheel driving over 40 years ago having many of the old vehicles. I cant go without air conditioning or power steering as we are now very spoiled.

Great episode, Ronny. Really nice to see that quite old rigs are still being used for overlanding and are well maintained so that they will fun and pleasure for a long time to come. It's also nice to see that great trips are made with relatively simple and only a few conversions. Wish the two many more beautiful tours and experiences with that great rig.

The swing away tyre carrier is standard for short wheelbase models, but not for long wheelbase models. That tyre carrier is from a shorty. The spare tyre is under the back of the chassis standard on long wheelbase models.

I used to have a 40 SWB with a 2F. When you asked them what they'd done to the troopy, I thought "chopped out a fuckton of rust" and you could already see the ton of bog, and orange peel paint. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED old "Brutal" as she was known. I traded her for a Landrover County 110 (massive improvement). The bloke, a Landrover dealer asked me what I had to trade him. I told him. "Aww fuck. One of them. How much rust?"

I learnt to drive a short wheel version of this. Very simple, but not good at 100km, bad fuel economy. Cool car, especially if you want to do it yourself, but I wouldn't recommend to anyone 40 years on. Yes ours had the tyre on the back, not underneath.

If it’s underpowered you should look at changing to a lighter weight AT tyre. Those Wildpeaks are quite heavy . I suggest the Hankook Dynapro AT2 as a good all rounder and will save you some weight on each corner
