Another reason to love Ronda. If you want equal pay, then attract equal interest in your sport. Ronda Rousey grossed more than most of the men on the UFC roster because people wanted to pay to see her. Also, at the Wimbledon Championships, men and women are paid equally but men play more sets in a match than women do. Where is the outcry for equal pay now? Also don't forget: they literally get paid more than the men. The men get paid more if they win, less if they lose, and nothing if they do not play. The women get paid whether they win, lose or do not play. So when you look at annual take home pay - which is what they lawyers did - the women get paid more. What the women wanted was the commission/bonus that the men get for winning while keeping their higher per-game take home pay.

Pay based on what you make your company. I do that now it's called straight commission. It's completely fair. Some months I make more then the boss. Others I make less. But I'm paid in direct relationship to how much I bring in. That's true of other men and women in the company. WNBA brings in 100th as much as the NBA which is why some men make 25M a year compared to 250k for women. It's not about Equality it's about Reality. You know, it’s tough because speaking from a moral standpoint, the purses for men and women in sports should be the same. Of course women and men should make the same money for the same jobs, there’s no justification for them to not do that. However, while the women should get paid the same, tournaments may not always be able to afford it since the revenue generated may not allow it (it’s that revenue and the sponsorship deals that result from the interest due to attendance in person and on tv from audiences that go into the purses in the first place). It’s not right, but it does happen. For example, why can tennis afford equal pay at Majors and Masters 1000 events? Because people are watching both the women and the men equally. Novak Djokovic may be a member of the Big 3, but right now Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka are just as hot as he is with audience members. That’s why the WTA is able to succeed in pushing for equal pay because they have moral ground and because people can afford to actually accept their terms.

I don't know if the pay gap is real in the work place... but there is no such thing in "sports". In sports, what matters is the viewership you bring, which in tern determines the sponsorship you get. Imagine saying that, in F1, black people make more money than white people. It's true, but it doesn't mean there's some kind of bias. It's just the fact that Lewis Hamilton brought more to the sport than Vettel, Verstappen and Alonso.

It's not real in the workplace if you look at wages per hour. It is real if you look at total take-home pay. The reason is, men work more hours. This also equates to earning higher bonuses/commissions (because they work more hours and make more sales) and earning more overtime.

Exactly. Want more pay for women's sports? Make it interesting in some way. Obviously, it hasn't been too interesting in the past. Women's UFC is interesting to a large portion of the population because there is blood. Never forget that we are all drawn to car crashes. People flock to auto sports, UFC, American football and the like, because of the danger factor. More testosterone, more danger. More danger, more fans. More fans, more money. More money, bigger paychecks. Nothing to it. If you want more pay for women's soccer, maybe allow body checking, like ice hockey? Maybe have every team hire an "enforcer" to dole out some pain? Same thing for women's basketball. Why watch a game that ends with scoring under 60 when you have men's games that almost double the scoring? By and large, women's sports are boring. Better find a way to make them exciting or people won't watch.

They ARE. That's what they lawyers discovered when the case for unfair pay was investigated. In a nutshell, the women were arguing that they got smaller bonuses for winning than the men. They did not take into account that they get paid more than the men. When the lawyers added base pay and bonuses, the women were paid more. The lawyers demonstrated that the contracts are not biased by showing that if the teams swapped contracts the women would still be paid more, and if both teams used the same contract the women would always be paid more. In short, however you look at it the women are paid more.
