Wonderful. I watched the race with my teenage daughter, we were screaming at the TV, encouraging Gilbert. When he won, we jumped for joy. A treasured father/daughter moment.

I love 1:05:30 where Gilbert loses it when his own team offers him a water bottle. He definitely was stressed holding that lead into the end.
@stusuchit2034 Жыл бұрын
Even stressed Phil knows if you take a water bottle inside of the 20k mark you get disqualified.

Adrenaline, Testosterone and lactic acid to the roof, some riders respond very differently when they are at the absolutely limit, and for moments they aren’t the riders that we know off the bike and in interviews
@alexhazard68713 жыл бұрын
A bit later when the guys in the quick step car wanted to give a bottle they said no because it wasn’t allowed in the last 20km or something like that. So he might not have been able to take it because it wasn’t allowed. Like Allaphilipe this year at the Tour lost his yellow jersey after a penalty for taking a bottle in the last 20km. +he will have been frustrated because his radio wasn’t working and he had no idea what the gap was
@keirfarnum68112 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about that myself; but someone mentioned the 20 km rule and so it makes sense. The helper didn’t realize it could potentially get Gilbert in trouble and it’s better to make a show of not taking the bottle. That 20 km rule is strange though. If I knew I was leading, I would make sure to have a couple of extra gels in the jersey and an extra bottle on the bike for the finale.
