Coykendall did NOT build Kingston Point Park for locals on their days off-that was additional revenue. His Kingston trolley also ended there to take passengers to Union Station or to Kingston. He built KPP as a Transportation Hub where steamboat passengers were met by his Ulster and Delaware RR whisked them away to the mountain hotels. Before the causeway was built-the area was a sandbar. The steamships were probably the most expensive and comfortable way to travel. Passengers on the NY Central still had to transfer at Rhinecliff and take the ferry to Rondout where they were met by the train and trolley.
