My boyfriend surprised me this weekend for my birthday by inviting all my friends and took me to Dave and Busters. What he didn’t calculate was that there was a DDR machine. I haven’t played in 10+ years but instinct took over and I sat doing difficult -> extreme while friends rotated in and out on the second mat to talk to me. I only took a few short breaks with kids saw me and wanted to try and gave up - those short breaks were filled with getting rubber duckies from the claw machine. Needless to say my friends were confused returning to the machine every little while for more ducks to be there, my boyfriend was worried for my health, but by the grace of God, La Bamba and High Noon I kept going for over 3 hours. Once a DDR kid, always a DDR kid.

it’s called dancerush! it’s super fun, not just to play normally on, but also the way the pad is stretched out vertically makes it possible to incorporate actual dance moves into your playstyle, couple that with the pad having this giant led matrix on it and it looks and feels just as cool as it sounds (with additional lightheadedness from how hard the game is…) you can find them at round1 arcades in the us. there’s not a lot of them like dave & busters, but if you live near one or want to put in the effort, go to one and check out the local rhythm game section (my favorite is beatmania iidx, with dancerush and sound voltex being second and third holy shit im rambling uh um uhhh)
