I’m in the Wilmington NC area and I have Bermuda, but need a lot of help getting rid of crabgrass and Bahia to hopefully getting my yard looking decent. We’ve had a ton of rain this winter so far and I can’t wait to get back in the yard and start prepping for the spring. But first, I need to get the pre-emergent out to control the weeds and crabgrass once we get some 50+ degree weather. I will be tuning in to you for tips along the way. Thanks my brother!

Heya Virgil. Glad you discovered the content. You're definitely on the right track as far as getting pre-emergent out soon. Once soil temps are at 50 degrees, you want to get it applied. Nice video and lawn. You might need to consider purchasing and using a soil application tip like the Teejet TTI or AI Teejet. The drift in your appilcation was too high and for best results on soil applications you want large droplets that hit the soil fast with little or no drift. The tip you were using works best for foliar applications.

I reside in Northern Virginia, with a TTTF lawn. Regarding the Carbon Pro; I initially tried the “granular” version. I purchased two bags for my lawn, but only used one because it was NOT easy to spread using my spreader. I have a Lesco spreader, and set it it to 30. It still took me to jerk, bang, kick, etc to help the product out of the hopper. I was able to return the unused bag and I purchased the liquid gallon size. So far I have made two applications since April of this season. I will give it a try, even though it will take a while to yield results.

This looks like a great supplement to your NPK program, and a little goes a long way. @RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
That a great point Bush League lawns. It's probably a tad unfair to compare it directly to Carbon X but for me the product should be better since it allows me the get the benefits of carbon-based soil amendments *without* having to add additional NPK to lawn. I've got plenty of ways to add the macronutrients to the turf so being able to isolate just the carbon and other micronutrients is really attractive.

Hi Teen Sonic. I don't water it in because of the iron it contains. I let it dry on the grass and then water the following day or just wait for rain. The Mesa fert releases a bit faster than Milo so you should be fine. Without knowing what's currently in your soil, it's tough to say definitively. If you haven't already, you should check out Natures Lawn. They have a lot of great products and fair prices. Great customer service as well. They're very responsive to any questions and help with applications rates. As far as soil amendments- I bought a 5 lb. bag of soluble humic acid from Amazon and made a 12%% solution that I keep on hand in the garage. I also bought a gallon of sea kelp extract. I apply the humic and kelp once a month. I will say this, the humic acid is too thick of a solution to spray with a backpack sprayer. It'll clog it for sure. House end sprayer is the way to go. I cant say the humic and kelp has been the major factor but my lawn looks AMAZING. I wish I could post a pic on here.
@RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
Great advice Alan. The CarbonPro contains about 5% sea kelp extract and it seems to go through the sprayer ok. Perhaps that's why the product is a bit more on the expensive side; that it can be applied via a backpack sprayer. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the results are with the product. It should be a nice supplement on top of everything I"m already doing. I'll have to give Nature's Lawn products a look. Thanks for the tip.
@Alan_834 жыл бұрын
The kelp isn’t the issue. That stuff mixes easily and can be applied with a backpack sprayer. It’s the humic acid that’s tough to spray. That’s probably why their product only contains 5% humates. I guess my point was; you could by the stuff separately and mix on your own and save a ton of money and really dial in your application amounts. When buying the premixed stuff, you’re paying for a bunch of water and the time they took to mix the product. I personally don’t mind making it myself and it’s quite easy. The 5 lb. bag will probably last me 3 seasons. Also, from what I’ve read, humates are meant as a soli applied products, meant to be watered into the soli after application. Kelp and the liquid fert are foliar absorbed products most effective when applied to the leaf blades. By mixing the humates (soil applied) and kelp/fert (foliar applied) it seems counterproductive. That’s just my understanding at least. I could be wrong. I’m interested to monitor your progress.
@RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the update Alan. I didn't water this in when I applied it. I applied it to dry turf and let it dry on the leaf blades like you're saying. The results so far have been very promising. This is an unreleased video showing the lawn 4 days after applying the product. I plan to do an update dedicated to Carbon Pro probably a week or so from now, but you can see how the lawn looks after applying it if you're interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3THe32plsmCd5Y

Eudes. You can a Spectracide application to help knock it back too. Spurge is very difficult to get rid of permanently. If you want to go hardcore, you can use a blend of dismiss and Speedzone but that will discolor the grass.

Curious to see your results for this. If I did the math correctly, I could use it for over 2 years at the suggested rate. I wonder how it would affect the lawn with heavier applications?

Akhmedov. I'm not sure that you'd see a lot more benefit. There's probably only so much change you can make in the turf at any time. The recommendation is to start with 2 ounces per 1k and then 1 ounce per 1k for each month following. I'll be shooting an update video here soon. 👍😎

Heya J Walker. I live in Georgia. Bermuda goes dormant in cold weather. My lawn turns brown between November and March. It definitely is a warm season grass. While it might not die you'd be dealing with a brown lawn for a lot of the year. Any idea kind of grass the golf courses in PA use?

Yes absolutely. Putting it down monthly along with your fertilizer application is a great idea. Fescue Freddy. That's right. This is used on top of everything you're already doing. It doesn't replace fertilization or other products on your lawn. It's basically an organic soil conditioner which help stimulate root growth to produce more resilient turf. Hi Fred. I do as I get closer to the end of the mowing season. Right now I'm running the mower a lot so the fuel works through it pretty quickly. When September rolls around, I'l switch to non-ethanol gas to avoid problems with water absorption as the mower is stored over winter months. From what I can tell this isn’t a fertilizer. No stated NPK. Lesco’s website specifically says to apply this with fertilizer. I think the comparison to carbonx is not accurate.
@RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
I agree it's not a direct comparison Tim. But because the product contains carbon, I look at it as an alternative for getting carbon and other nutrients like humic acid and kelp extract without pushing a ton of growth in your lawn. So in the scenario of someone like me who already has a set of fertilizers that I like, it's nice to be able to apply a product that truly is just a micronutrient. No additional NPK in appreciable amounts like you said. I should have been more clear in the video. 👍
@GoFastGator4 жыл бұрын
I agree with Tim and some of the others that implying this is better than CX DIY is unfair. CX is targeted to the DIY “easy” market. Folks looking for one brand/bag to buy. Macros/micros/carbon in one application, easy to understand and budget. If you want to separate the soil action from the plant nutrients, then the Lesco products or Carbon Earth Co’s liquid “Pro” product line make a lot of sense. Beautiful lawn (Bermuda?)!
@RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
@@GoFastGator Fair point Brian. CarbonPro is definitely more of a niche/isolated product that Carbon X which is more of an all in one like you say. Part of why asked the question of if it's better in the thumbnail is depending on how you use carbon products in your lawn, it very well may be better since you're getting the benefits of carbon and the other micronutrients without having to add NPK in the process. I guess a more accurate description could be to refer to it as an alternative like I did in the actual video title? The lawn is Bermuda. Tif419 as the base grass type that's been overseeded with Arden 15 and Princess 77. Thanks for pointing out the differences between CX and CarbonPro. They really are targeted at different markets like you say.

Hi Asafegous. It's pretty expensive at just over $300 for 2.5 gallons.
