For all practical reasons yes. You can get it as a restricted rifle for self-defence or as a collector, but neither is easy.

Theres pros and cons in my opinion of both from a practicality point of view. 1) 9mm ammo is much cheaper than rifle ammo. Also in case of an unrest situation 9mm is a bit more available than rifle ammo in a civilian application situation. However if you need to punch through walls n have the funds a 223 wylde would be my advice esp the SAI AR15s.

I don’t know about PCC’s. If you’re gonna go through all the hassle to get dedicated status, license the firearm and spend R25k you might as well go for a 5.56 AR or for (much) cheaper just get a Norinco AK variant.

To get DSS you can join NatShoot, you will need to take one paper target to the range twice a year to get your DSS. 5.56 AR's are cool and have more range but ammo costs a lot more than 9mm. If you reload your own ammo reloading 5.56 is a ball ache compared to 9mm, so much brass prep while 9mm is easy as pie. I guess depends what your application is, in sport shooting a PCC would be much more practical (in my case) vs a 5.56.

@ you mentioned something I didn’t think about, and that’s the reloading part of the equation. I went the Natshoot route for my 10/22 to get dedicated status. The process was a breeze. At the end of the day, you buy what you want too and I buy what I want, and the beautiful thing about that is both of us are right.

pistol fighting is more for short range contact or as a secondary platform to a rifle. i won't be shooting at bad guys with a pistol past 50m if i can help it. at 100m 9mm bullet drop and velocity is much less desirable than a 10 inch AR15. if i think i might have to fight past 50m, i will use my AR15 and not a 9mm kit

I think for someone that only owns a handgun and would like to have something fun as a accessory it's OK, but I can understand that it can't hold it's place next to a firearm like CZ Scorpio being designed more for the purpose the shooter wants to use it in. But ja - Thanx for communicating

Ja I can see why you would think that, but for someone that does not have the privilege to own more than a handgun for self defence it would make more sense because of licensing and budget, but the Ronni is only a accessory and not a firearm .. Would not buy a Roni at all, parts break... easily... there are much better options. The Hera arms Triari is far better...

Lots of Roni's in SA, marketing has been well done, but still by no means the best!

Yes, I agree the triari is far better but it's also much more expensive. It's also not as easy to get in South Africa, but I feel the point is the Ronni is only a accessory, it's what is available.. And to someone only owning a handgun it makes sense having a fun accessory. Thanks for communicating
