Ammo capacity in SA is very important. We dont generally get attacked by 1 person. Revolvers are very lekker but in an SA context a good quality pistol is unbeatable.

A 38 special is not more powerful than a 9mm. 9mm semi-autos use a faster burning powder. More powder does not mean more powerful. A 9mm is moving around 300fps faster than a standard 38. A .38 moves around 800fps, and a 9mm moves around 1100-1200+fps. Now, when you get into .38+p loads they are comparable.

I think they might have wanted to get around to a more thorough explanation, but it didn't pan out. They would have to explain about black powder and such.
@baconatordoom5 ай бұрын
@@h3HUg7Sp Yup. Barrel length, projectile weight and cylinder gap also play a big part in it. But even then, a full .38+p commercial load with the same projectile out of a 6inch+ revolver will barely be comparable to a standard 9mm round out of a 4inch compact barrel.

I would say you are incorrect. Search on KZbin ".38 Special VS 9mm Ballistic Gel Test - Hornady American Gunner" Gel test shows much greater wound cavity, 38 special has more mass, it's not just about speed. 357 is incredibly stronger than 9mm, as well. It's about twice as much recoil as 38 special. Penetration tests again wood with 357 shows incredible penetration. Unlike 9mm that will get trapped, just like 40, 10mm, and 380 ACP, and even 45 Auto

As a Certified Firearms Specialist. He is exactly correct. Throw away the brands. Let figure out what the purpose is. I specifically express range time, range time, and more range time. Muscle memory and ready if ever need be. We are looking at moving to South Africa, and I would like to continue being a Certified Firearms Specialist.

A longer barrel does not equate to more accurate, it equates to the longer the barrel the more velocity you'll get out of the same round. I consider snub nose revolvers as Special purpose handguns, they are very much a no thrills conceal carry handgun for self defense. Subcompact 9mm handguns like this Canik SC, CZ P10S and Glock 26, are good all round self defense handguns with the ability to flex in as an occasional recreational range pistol but also relatively good for conceal carry. Micro 9mm pistols (especially double stack) like the Canik MC 9, Springfield Hellcat, Glock 43X and Sig 365 are mainly a good allround EDC conceal carry handgun. Just to note, what makes Sub Compacts a good option in SA, is the fact that they tend to have the shortest barrel possible for you to shoot most of your JHP self defense ammo with reliable results by still having enough velocity for the JHP round to expand and penetrate as intended. Micro 9's with their sub 3.5 inch barrels you become compelled to shoot JHP SD ammo optimized for short barrels and those ammos like the Federal Premium HST 147gr and Hornady 115gr Critical Defense are not always available or not always in everyone's budget to stock up on.

9mm is more powerful than most 38 special loads. Drawback 9mm FMJ been known to go deeper into housing material like drywall. Why I carry a 9mm or 45 acp? There's been more than a few cases where it took more than 10 rounds to drop a perpetrator and after being shot fatally. Those who are on drugs or have mental issues, can be very difficult to stop. Under stress what can you reload faster a revolver or a pistol? My EDC pistols are? Glock 30 Gen 4 and CZ P-07.

The revolver in 38 definitely has LESS power 9 mm lol ..why would anyone say that? Just strange. .truly ..maybe he thought was a 357?
@righteousone84545 ай бұрын
Gel tests state otherwise, search on KZbin ".38 Special VS 9mm Ballistic Gel Test - Hornady American Gunner"
@theumpteenthtime88545 ай бұрын
I suspect, but they'd still be wrong. The case of the .357 mag was only made longer than the .38 spl so that those who, at the time, couldn't tell the difference, wouldn't make their gun explode because the cylinder wouldn't lock with the longer case. The .357 mag case is only 1-2mm longer than the .38 spl, but it is 2-2.5x as powerful in terms of fpe. These folks are obviously mistaking size for power and not taking into account the type of propellant used to gain significant pressure and velocity in both the 9mm and .357 mag.

@@flamboyantmarshmallow7304 not quite... The law in South Africa says it must be covered, hidden/concealed is just good practice.

Holy Jeebus In the US an auto, say S&W or even CZ, is less cost, and the 9mm ammo is much stronger at half the cost. A S&W revolver is twice the cost, half the capacity and half the power. Difficult to reload. That's a very different world you live in. And it seems you might want to consider rethinking it
@vbcountryboy5 ай бұрын
The right answer for 75% of shooters is a Glock 19. Other guns in that size are fine but a medium/compact 9mm is great for anything other than competition. CZ or HK or SW or Steyr or walther all make similar striker fired guns but glocks are the do all defensive pistol. Revolvers take longer to become proficient with in my opinion. You can jam a revolver or mess up the timing/firing pin and not realize it. It’s harder to reload quickly and you 6-7 shots. That said a revolver maybe best in a few cases. I’m not sure but I think FMJ bullets are the only legal pistol ammo in SA? New 9mm loads for defense do what a .38+p+ will do. If you’re stuck on FMJ bullets then his point might make sense.
@lukes4975 ай бұрын
Correct except on the ammo front. Hollow points are 100% legal to carry in SA.
