This year we welcome back the beloved Swedish fantasy-tale of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter - following Ronja as she grows up and discovers the magical, yet dangerous forest with its mysterious creatures. When Ronja meets the young boy Birk from a rival gang, it marks the beginning of a dark family feud and a forbidden friendship emerges, all while a notorious bailiff arrives to rid the forest of robbers once and for all.
Writer Hans Rosenfeldt, director Lisa James Larsson and producers Bonnie Skoog Feeney & Mattias Arehn have transformed the story of Ronja based on the Astrid Lindgren book. The series will be released in two parts, with Part 1 (episode 1-6) launching on March 28, followed by Part 2 (episode 7-12) later in 2024.

Hello people across the world! Here's some useful information for ya: -This is a series (not a movie) and was originally made by Viaplay. Netflix then bought it. -The story is based on a book written by Astrid Lindgren in 1981 (same woman who created Pippi Longstocking). -There are only two other adaptions of this book; a live action movie from 1984 (directed by Tage Danielsson) and an anime series from 2014 (directed by Gorō Miyazaki). I hope you will enjoy the show!

You are absolutely right. In Germany they used to show some of the Lindgren film adaptations for Christmas and it felt extra extra special when they were on tv. Lindgren's Emil was re-named for the German children's book market. We know him as Michel. There was already a famous Emil from Kästner's "Emil and the Detectives". Lindgren is so wonderful in her writing by combining melancholy, sadness and pure joy. The best forever.

This show was produced by the swedish Viaplay, but it will be shown on Netflix instead, due to an economical crisis that struck Viaplay. So this is basically a Viaplay production that ended up on Netflix instead. There will be 2 seasons and 12 episodes in total. Based on the Astrid Lindgren Book. Astrid Lindgren is most known in the US as the creator of Pippi Longstocking.

@@zephyrerazortail5478 I don't think that's a Netflix thing.. No, Mattis is still a man, but there's both a female chief of the village and female leader of the soldiers who hunt for the robbers 🙄 Now I wouldn't mind one of the two - there are lots of strong females in Lindgren's books, for example Sofia, who lead the rebels in the Brothers Lionheart - they just overdo it these days. That aside, though, the show was apparently even filmed in Sweden, and its first reviews are very positive 😊

This series is a gem. Absolutely meticulously realized, incredibly beautifully filmed, and with absolutely likable protagonists. Beautiful setting, the story more corresponding to the book, with much depth and humor. The dwarves are simply super cute, and the overall feeling of the series is just a delight. Even I grew up with Ronja and was extremely skeptical about a Ronja reboot. But Lisa James Larsson has put in 120% effort, and I simply don't understand the criticism of the series. It's as if people can't be satisfied nowadays. What would it take for people to be satisfied? I think the maximum has been achieved, and I will watch the series a second, third, and fourth time. Superb performance, beautiful story.

But now, older and not as scared as I once was, I can say that THIS looks FANTASTIC! I really hope that this movie will be a banger. And since that it's the 40th Anniversary of the original movie this year, I can tell that this will be special. This is what I _love_ about my Netflix subscription: it's not just American 'stuff', but instead full international as well. Swedish, Spanish, Dutch... my only issue with series though: too many open endings and thus also unfinished stories. I really hope this won't be one of those.

As a swede, that makes me so happy to hear! 🥹❤ This series is based on a book by Astrid Lindgren (same woman who created Pippi Longstocking), so I think the story will be wrapped up nicely. The people in charge of Astrid's legacy are very strict when it comes to adaptions of her work, and rarely allows any major changes, so I think it will be very close to the original book.

My first reaction when I saw the thumbnail was to shake my head and say "no, not this one too". Then I actually watched the trailer, and while there are some things that I kinda have a problem with, I think this time I'm actually going to watch the thing before I make my mind about either liking or hating it. I'm actually interested in seeing how they turn this book and the original movie into a series... I've seen the original numerous times, and while some of the effects obviously have dimmed during passing time, the 80s movie still holds a special place in my heart.

I cant wait for the second part of the story! Grew up watching all the original Astrid Lindgren movies, really enjoyed the seriers! For people saying that it ruins your childhood when movies gets remade, you dont have to like it but if nothing ever got adapted or remade we wouldnt have any movies, music or other forms of entertainment. It wont be the same as the flrst time you watched a movie while being a little kid. Nostalgia is a powerfull secret ingredient that can make things seem much better then they actually were.

@@jasonmann3775 I actually came across the Netflix press release which stated: Part 1 of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter launches in the Nordics, CEE, UK, France, Spain and the Netherlands on March 28th, followed by Part 2 later in 2024. I'm glad they put the trailer on the mail Netflix channel so I would be aware vs it only being on the regionalized Netflix KZbin pages so that hopefully means that licensing will occur for global regions but can't find anything that confirms or lists a date for that to happen.
