I do have to say this: First i heared about this theory, i didnt believe it. But Reggie admitted this to his cellmate. So i think Reggie didnt knew what to do, and Ron took 'care of it'... this is a plausible theory. But we dont know for sure except for Reggies confession 2 his cellmate (which became one of his best friends)
