Ronnie Lott is the prototype defensive player. The man hit everyone like a force of nature, and he made the toughest opponents feel fear on a primal level. That icey stare of his would make a raging bull climb a tree and start meowing for help...lol

Walter Payton played like a man possessed. There was no such thing as running out of bounds. If you wanted to bring him down you knew you were going to get hit, and maybe be left looking like a fool. Now I know why. Running up that steep hill he ran built power in his legs and you could see how he’d break tackles by driving with those powerful legs. That’s why Jim Brown respected him so much, because Walter played like him.

absolutely by far to this day. When everyone wanted Joe's jersey I only wanted Ronnie's. Met him last year for the first time on the golf course this past summer. I was volunteering during a charity event. Out of the corner of my eye, I turned my head and I knew. I always looked at him as the player on the field. A career ender. In reality out of all the legends I've met by far the kindest light-hearted soul of them all. I respect the man even more Thank you Ronnie for teaching me more than you would ever know. Respect!!!

I met Ronnie Lott in 1990 when I tried out with the 9er's. I wasn't anything but another rookie (tryout) but it meant the world to me that the best defensive back in the NFL said 2 sentences to me in the locker room. Lol my tryout didn't last long, but the memory of him encouraging me will last forever. This video brought tears to my eyes not only of a great football player playing the game he loved, but of what he meant to his family, and me. I will always remember my short time at camp and your encouragement. Thank you sir and congratulations on a great football life. 🙏🏾

I can say this much. Growing up as a Dallas Cowboy fan. It wasn’t Lawrence Taylor. It wasn’t Troy Palomalu. It wasn’t Ed Reed. These players could only be mitigated and avoided. It was Ronnie Lott. That Dude brought the fear factor for 14 years in the NFL and I’m certain he has been the cause for more overtime pay for the sports medicine industry than any other player. Your team could run but they couldn’t hide from Ronnie Lott. I miss the NFL of that era even though Ronnie Lott made me cringe every time they called his name. Nothing but respect for that effort.

It's hard for me to choose between Ronnie Lott and Brian Dawkins, as far as who my favorite safety of all time is. It's a toss up, impossible to pick since I'm not personally a fan of either the eagles or 49ers. But man, these guys were special, from a bygone era. True headhunters that instilled TRUE fear in the minds of the opposition. If you tried to catch a ball over the middle of the field, you were gonna regret it. To me, Ronnie Lott was the original. Brian Dawkins carried the torch after. I mean the guy had an alter ego and he embraced it, and so did the fans. Weapon X. I mean you can't not love it. As a Giants fan, I still have the vision in my mind of B Dawk absolutely de-cleating and body slamming Brandon Jacobs to the ground during a run play. Brandon Jacobs was like 6'4 and over 250 lbs. A way bigger dude than Dawkins was. Didn't matter. Laid him out.

I happened to be looking at bits of the infamous 1987 49ers loss to the Vikings in the Divisional playoff round, and was shocked to see this happen on a 3rd down play: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imjdqZh6hpajjck Ronnie Lott went helmet-to-helmet and couldn't get up for TWO MINUTES while the doctors asked him who he was and where he was. Then he PLAYED THE SECOND HALF. No wonder he's not all that coherent these days... Even more chilling thought was the announcers saying that Lott told them he wanted to hit people the way his strong safety teammate, Jeff Fuller does. I always considered Fuller (drafted in 1984) to be Lott's protege and I was a big fan of him, but two years later Fuller broke his neck making a Lott-style helmet-to-helmet tackle, and never played again. Fuller can walk, but can't use one of his arms. Former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo kept Fuller on the roster the following season (even though he could play ever again, it kept him on the payroll and accrued another year for his player pension benefits), then set up an annuity that pays him $100,000 a year for the rest of his life, because DeBartolo was the best owner any team ever had.

7:00 That transition from Marcus Allen to Ronnie Lott really confused me. They edited so it seems as if Allen continued talking but my alarm bells went off when the person speaking said "Maybe they thought I was a little crazy...." I was thinking "Marcus Allen? CRAZY?! No way... He seems like the most laid back man ever." I had to listen two more times to verify it was actually Ronnie Lott speaking during horrible editing

I believe Ronnie Lott took George C Scott's speech in Patton the movie a wee bit too serious. LOL

Well, she’s a one beautiful lady, Lonnie great job, she’s definitely a looker for sure but you was in the league of your own on the field, playing hurt at times and even sacrificed body parts for the game. The 9ers wasn’t my favorite team but the 9ers defense was just like the Chicago bears defense during the days of sweetness. Every penny was earned on the field if not more Off the field, looks like a great job with the relationship with your daughter. You had a great life on and off the field, much respect

I red in a Bill Walsh book that getting hit by Ronnie Lott was like getting hit over the head with a baseball bat, such was his intensity😮 Goat corner, H.O.F and multiple Super Bowl champion. Love the Patton story👏👏🇺🇲🏈

Loved Ronnie Lott for sure. To see another Dback that flew under the radar but made some monster hits check out former Giant Myron Guyton! He was also a big hitter that t’eed off on many receivers… always made the highlights on George Michael’s Sports Machine!!! Great show back in the day…

4:46 I also played kickball in the 70’’s, and throwing the ball hard to get players out was part of the game. I took some hard throws to the face … but like the saying goes, I rubbed some dirt on it, and kept competing .. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kelce hinted at what Magic and Ronnie were saying about winning. Said he had a bit of burnout mid-season because the expactation was just like the grind of any job, work hard all week go out on Sunday, beat the next team, rinse, repeat. I've heard Bradshaw talk about it too. With success, the success must be prolonged, letting up is not allowed.
