Ronnie Milsap is from Robbinsville, North Carolina, not too far from me. Beautiful, sleepy little mountain town. He was born with glaucoma and has been blind all his life. Love his music. We all do. Ronnie touches my heart, not only for his music, but my dad was blind, too. Thanks, Harri.
@christianmarler22533 ай бұрын
You have a real connection to him, then, living where you do, and with your dad. That's really interesting! I vaguely remember reading about Ronnie once. Maybe you know, didn't he have some very small amount of vision as a child until some accident or medicine or something took the rest of it away? I seem to remember how sad the story was, but then what a triumph he made of his life! And what amazing, real talent he has! I believe I also read he's still around but retired. I hope that's right.
@angelbulldog49343 ай бұрын
@christianmarler2253 Being considered blind, as we know, doesn't mean total darkness. A teacher struck him while he was in school (no deets on that occasion but I hope she at the very minimum lost her job) and caused the total blindness. His mother thought he was cursed by God--that he was some sort of punishment--so she shunned him. He was reared by his grandparents. What a tragic early life. But there is no art without suffering. Thanks for asking. Have a lovely day.
@christianmarler22533 ай бұрын
@@angelbulldog4934 I knew it was a sad story. That was it. Poor little guy. It's like a childhood out of Charles Dickens. What a triumphant story his life turned into, though. I wonder if that teacher lived long enough to see him become a star. I hope maybe her life story got better, too.

Angel, I read this thread and you were spot on about the teacher. I read his book "Almost Like A Song" years ago. Collected 29 albums and CD's. Four concerts. My mother loved Ronnie Milsap. I do as well. Every song of Ronnie's I listen to is in remembrance of my mother. Oh, I live 50 miles from Robbinsville as the crow flies. 👍👍👍

Years ago, my uncle was working in a music store when Ronnie Milsap (and another person) came into the store. My sister was in there and went into shock because he was her favorite artist. My uncle introduced them but my sister couldn’t make a sound. Ronnie finished his business, turned to leave, told my Uncle goodbye, and then said “I’d tell Martha but but I really don’t think she’s here”. He walked out, the door shuts, then my sister let out a very small breathless “Hello”. Lol. My uncle couldn’t tell the story for laughing so hard.
