They can't exactly adapt their songs to acoustic guitars overnight. Like take for example a metal band, say their amps fucked up and they could only use amps with clean settings.. Hell even blues musicians with pure clean amps. It just doesn't work.

Needing laptops really depends on what music you're playing. If you're using alot of electronic and synthesized effects like Falling in Reverse, you can't just recreate that sound with their instruments. The situation is different if they were using the laptops to actually lip sync of course, in which case they're an absolute joke.

This is why Motley is one of the few bands that kids and young adults in this day and age who aren’t only metal heads like from that era of music, because they aren’t stuck in the 70’s and 80’s and have gotten with the times. The technology is there, so why not use it? If backing tracks are used right and not abused, they can make the show 100 times better. And before I start anything I didn’t say motley is the only band, I said one of the few.

However, when you get down to it, even rock/metal bands without "laptops" still use electronics to produce distorted sounds. Lights and pyrotechnics work off MIDI in most cases, and they'll be synced up with a click track if they are - which is fed to the band, get this... From a computer... On top of that, samples, instruments, effects - there are a bunch of things that require a computer... Not everyone is Motley Crue-ing it up, they just want to put on a good show.

Using electronics or digital sounds in your music is NOT THE ARGUMENT. The argument is canceling a show over losing a laptop. Even my 10 year old would be unable to use that excuse for missing a homework assignment given that backups, the cloud, internet, flash drives exist. This is THE POINT of having touring crew, roadies, managers, and assistants so that if something should go wrong, there's a way to fix it or replace it. Everything else is a cop out and excuse because you don't want to face the reality or responsibility. People are paying their hard earned money to see you live, making time out of their lives to see you perform only to hear that you won't because of a missing lap top.
