If they got out. The public would likly run. Run the hell away after seeing a hand appear out of the cemetery grave. Wringgling those fingers as if they are full of life, yet dead. Then that ghostlyfingered limb starts digging a deeper hole till eventually a whole mound breaks open and a headed torso sits up spitting outthe sil and shaking it from what bits the maggots didn't eat. I can not see the Public sticking around another second saying 'Allo Ronnie' How you been doing,? Were you up stairs or downstairs? Then for real if the real talking really began and Ronnie opened his mouth muttering 'I did mine, It's time for you to do yours'. Just as most Public wouldn't care to sit in the same room with Frankenstein they would leave the entire double decker bus empty if the living dead walking corpse of Ronnald Kray got on asking for a single to Valance Road.

I think because they were working class who made something of themselves albeit through criminal activities. Depending on who you ask some say the Kray's never hurt innocents only people involved the criminal underworld and others call them thugs. But back when they around it was different to today. The working class were considered ill mannered uneducated scum. The Kray's pulled themselves out of being poor working class and ran a successful night club and attracted celebrities to them like magnets plus they basically ran the East end so I get why people are fascinated by them.

They also used Mr Smith's Club in Rushey Green. The Krays and Richardsons did not get on to say the least. However there was a difference, the Krays wanted to be famous, the Richardsons rich. The Krays became infamous, the richardsons did not get rich and like the Krays spent some considerable time in jail.

They kept all of the villainy under control. No one stepped out of line. They hated grasses, sex offenders, people who committed crimes to do with women and children. They couldn't stand petty housebreakers. The twins would never have stood for muggings and the sort of street crime that's going haywire today. In those days the East End was a better and safer place for the general public to live in, and I feel a bit proud of that. The twins did a job the police couldn't do, and there are a lot of coppers who would admit it. The twins should have been given a medal. - Tony Lambrianou.

I'd have been tempted to give that reporter a smack in the mouth for that remark. Yes, the Krays were violent criminals no-one is disputing that. However, Charlie was right, compared to the criminal element of today, his brothers kept and dealt with things very much 'in-house' and didn't involve the public. Ronnie died whilst still incarcerated in Broadmoor and the authorities only released Reggie when they knew he was dying of cancer, it was nothing more than a token gesture which reflected very badly on them, not Reggie. The twins were made an 'example' of by the judicial system and the only criminals who have suffered a similar length of imprisonment since are serial killers (who have murdered totally innocent people). The Krays victims, in many ways, 'had it coming' so to speak. That for me, is the difference (and a sizeable one at that) between the Krays and the likes of Denis Nielsen, The Yorkshire Ripper, The Moors Murderers etc...

@@KumaBean Of course, I wasn't looking for people to split hairs with me. You are right about Bronson, but he is an extraordinary case in that the authorities see him as (and he has proven this time and time again) extremely violent. If you read Bronson's wikipedia page you will see what I mean, a very chequered history in both prison and 3 psychiatric hospitals. He is too dangerous to be released back into society, hence why his sentence was changed to life imprisonment from an original 7 year stretch for armed robbery.
