I'm also a drummer and when I was 12, I saw Ronnie Tutt play in the aloha tour live on TV. He had so much energy and showmanship that I couldn't take my eyes of his fantastic playing. He really lit up the Elvis Band just like Buddy Rich did with his big band. Ronnie was giving 110% in that fantastic concert. I never heard a rock and roll drummer play like that at such a fast pace.

When i was kid and this aired, i was only 6 years old, but was already immediately drawn to the drums. I now play professionally, and have a few things to say about this man's playing. When you listen to what he's doing on this live version of That's Alright Mama, most hard rock drummers would never imagine that this guy would pull a double bass drum pattern as many 80's hard rock bands would regularly do, most notably Alex Van Halen, Tommy Aldridge, and Tommy Lee, which is the shuffle double bass drum pattern, sounding like a jackhammer. Ronnie Tutt achieved this on a rockabilly tune that Elvis' first drummer, the late and great D.J Fontana created. He managed to take a classic rock n roll drum pattern, and modernized it n the 70's on an Elvis tune no less.. That, is superior drumming.. Mr. Tutt is the man !!

Yes and the double bass towards the end of See see Rider too, notable in Elvis on tour . The guy's incredible.

sir you are so right, if you follow from when he got into the TCB band forward you can certainly tell that E recognized the talent and after awhile just gave him the green light. I saw Elvis maybe 10 times as a kid w my parents, and when E entered the stage and Ronnie went into that intro, it sounded like the roof was gonna cave, but it was tight, not all scattered. Ronnie had never played double bass, and said if there was ever a time this would be it, he never looked back and E loved it, love that intro to this day, aint no doubt who that is
