Does anyone know what the stringed instrument that is heard throughout the song is? It sounds close to a nylon guitar but it also reminds me of a ukulele. Maybe a lute of some kind?

I can be "anyone" ....... Actually it's a bouzouki - the Greek string instrument.

@@RonnieFriend No, I don't think so. Bouzouki has sharper attack and a lot more high end. This sounds more like a classical guitar to me, but I'm not sure.

I hear bouzouki in the background behind the main guitar, but the forward strings in the beginning are classical guitar, you're right. No mistaking that sound. Putting bouzouki behind the guitar is a great idea, it adds a lot to the sound. Not as jangly as a 12 string but still adds depth
