Thank you for uploading this documentary. I saw it years ago on some bootleg website and have been looking for again ever since. It’s a great representation of Pete at the time and how he dealt with the ups and downs of fame. I’m happy he’s sober and reunited with the boys in the band again 😎❤️ Early 2000’s was never the same after The Libertines came on the music scene .

I commissioned this film and introduced Roger Pomphrey to James Mullord in the Babyshambles tour bus on the 2004 Stone Me What a Life Tour outside the Manchester Ritzy after Babyshambles finished their gig which was filmed by David Kaye - “Red Brick” video production company and released as a DVD “Up the Shambles” - an 8 camera edit - the whole concert skilfully filmed. That night I called upRoger and put him on the phone to James. Roger got together with Greg Roselli and between them they were the whole crew, producer, director, cameraman.

Paul, the only thing you commissioned was your tax off the drugs you used to score for folk. "the Paul Ro" tax.. Back in the Boy George days you were referred to as Paul Cod. Leave the man alone, you've made enough money from all the views, not that he'd be surprised by that, or even miffed by it.. But as for you commissioning ANYTHING from a crack den is complete and utter lies. Your only happy with Peter when he's making you money, which is everyday if your nose could sniff further than the end of your lips.

What an absolute delight this footage is. So many soulful, expressive, complex, intelligent, deep people. The absolute antithesis of the reining tiktok culture and its homogenisation of trends and exaltation of ultra conformity. It's a balm to see the conversations in this documentary, it's so raw and real. It makes me cherish that era for what it was -- seems like the last flicker of a candle before we entered the matrix.

Pete has written some great songs and is a great raw songwriter & musician with a totally individual style. Yes he’s taken hard drugs but he wasn’t the first and won’t be the last, the controversy and press that has surrounded the situation is totally overboard and too much made of it. He’s made out to be a drug addled villain which is bollocks! He’s a nice, pretty gentle guy. There’s been so many musicians gone before with habits but were never treated and reported on in the way they have done with Pete. Good work Pete, just keep being the great songwriter, musician, performer you are.

He made the mistake of not taking the more socially acceptable drugs, you know those drugs the elitist class would prefer us to take like caffeine or alcohol etc. The ones that keep you all either working, or fighting and arguing each other. Well more specifically he made the mistake of taking the better drugs publicly, where he risked putting ideas in the minds of the working citizens. Can't have that can we?

the biggest shame about all this in my opinion is actually how little Peter and all of his history is famous nowdays. I know he is famous and known, especially in Britain and Europe generally but honestly his legacy as a rock icon would have deserved to be Kurt Cobain or Amy Winehouse status and more widely known. With that I mean specifically the US market. In a certain way as a european person I do take pride in that he is a european original but he and his legacy should be more widely known as exactly that. Hes never mentioned in any Rock n Roll top lists and I find that is really a shame. But maybe that even gives him some kind of extra credit. Hes our Kurt Cobain, and hes much better than Cobain. Hes connected with poetry and the european aesthetic and hes our diamond, that the big market of nowdays is oblivious to. And I say this as a 26 year old guy. Peter actually wasnt supposed to be a part of my youth, he happened an era before me, but I discovered him in my youth because I prefered real art. Maybe someday this realness will speak for itself and in a few decades hell get the global credit he deserves. Hes not only a rock star, hes someone that mixed the european aesthetic and poetry with the modern music industry. That is very special to us. We europeans should be proud of him continuing our legacy, in a very specific way.

Was thinking the same. They're mostly a bunch of junkies leeching off of his fame, without much to offer themselves apart from being 'the friend of'. Dubious characters the lot of them, but let's be honest, that definition would also include Pete himself, but at least he's the one with the actual talent.

Doherty writes very unusual lyrics though, which draw from a different tradition to the "good British guitar bands". It's Tony Hancock rather than Elvis or Howlin Wolf. And he seems to want to live in the world of Keats, Yeats, Coleridge and Baudillaire rather than do any traditional rock star stuff. I think his poetic sensibility is probably one source of his wider appeal. Reminds me of Morrissey quite a bit.

I’m being obvious but I want to say I think Peter & his band were unfortunate in being around at a time when almost every other popular cult or indie band in Britain were either dull ,very dull or strictly managed . @newforestpixie5297 the problem with the Libertines was that they were primarily hype over substance (the NME simply couldn't get enough of them when they became bored of having Oasis on the front cover three times a month) - their debut album was good but not a masterpiece that their obsessive followers WANTED it to be. The constant rowing between the two front men, drugs, disappointing second album, constant cancellation of gigs just made matters worse.

@@revol148 ps thanks to the NME I did something in 1984 I’d never done before or since - bought a record ( or music for anyone young ) without actually hearing it , thanks to the unusually high standard of praise which reviewer Swells had given an album. He said it was the most exciting thing he’d heard since Never Mind the bollocks etc etc To be fair the title was so good , it should have been at least listenable . It was called Tell God I’m Here by a band called Hurrah ( this was 1984 ) . Next visit to our local record shop lo & behold amongst new pre recorded cassettes was the said album. If I tell you that Tell God I’m Here was like the band Pale Fountains on a dull day , that would sum it up. The guy must’ve been higher than the bloody moon when he’d reviewed it the dick. Worse still I was always high back then & it didn’t help make NMEs record of the week sound any better…Or if Cactus World News we’re a poor man’s’ U2 , Hurrah would’ve been their very dull uncle 😃

@@stjohnbee on the contrary - music is subjective and I'm certainly not here to tell anyone what to think. I simply question the assertion that "Pete" is influential on anyone now that the music industry generated hype has died down ! Both him and the Libertines were of a time and place (the barren post-Britpop wasteland) and in that void this style-over-substance collection of people entered the fray. I have also suggested elsewhere that part of the appeal of Doherty was his junkie persona - and girls especially love that - Sid Vicious was another one who milked that.

I dont care what people say or have said about him Pete came along with The Libertines and us brits loved that old school Rock n Roll. And intrigued with the Sex Drugs and Rock n Roll lifestyle. Like Johnny Thunders in New York and his problems with Heroun but still writing great music Pete took it down the same root with Baby Shambles. Like Johnny who was a New York Doll before becoming a Heartbreaker. Thank god Pete got clean and is still making music with The Libs again. Forever sailing on the good ship Albion.
