It amazes me that roofs there get so full of moss. Where I am at the roof gets hot in the sun and nothing grows on them. I have even got burned on my roof once. This was so relaxing to watch. Keep up the good work Sid.

I would often travel to Notts from Leicester on the train and we'd stop right next to those huge cooling towers at East Mids Parkway station, it's such an awe-inspiring sight to be right next to something so huge when you're not used to it. Anyways, enough waffle, my bad lol! Just sparked a nice memory. I'm a little while late but great video as always, Sid.

When pausing the video at 12:47 it looks like the peak wall has some problems . At first i thought it was camera distortion but it's only affected the top starting from above the windows ... If you take the line in the middle of the 2 windows (steel bracket line) , the bricks line up nicely but then it goes all wonkey. Am i seeing things that are not there or is it image distortion after all ?

This may seem an odd question but im from across the pond. Are the concrete/lead roof tiles more common in the UK? Its not something we see here with it being all either asphalt, clay, or metal.
@nswinoz33023 жыл бұрын
I can answer that from an Australian 🇦🇺 point of view and also someone from Britain. Everything was clay/terracotta and concrete tiles when I built here in Oz almost 40 years ago but these days metal is a lot more common. When I say clay, concrete would be three the amount and people with them tend to have them cleaned and then painted afterwards, some successfully a lot not so successfully. Interestingly I asked about Asphalt roofing material once out of interest at a hardware store if it could be used and got looked at weird as it’s illegal to put it on any roof here due to its high combustible in bushfires. I’ve cleaned my roof myself probably twice and it’s due for another one in a few years. Watching this channel out of interest before doing this work myself and not that much different except for the quantity of scraping shows just how bad it must be. The treatment is something different to what I’ve used but basically it kills whatever is growing on the more shady side of the roof. Difference being you try and do this before the temperature gets over 40°C otherwise you bake, i.e. a good spring, autumn or winter job here. P.S. lead was only on prestige/old buildings in the UK from memory, normally with steep roof angles and churches being the obvious ones. Hope that helps? NSW in Oz

Do they not allow you to use bleach (sodium hypochlorite) on roofs in the UK? I would have thought it would give quicker results. I think I have heard you say it can take as long as a year for the best results with biocide.

Sid, you mentioned someone had given jet washing that roof a go. Is jet washing roof tiles a no go for you? Seen a few houses near me have it done and I can only imagine bits of damage being caused...
@alexisgrunden15563 жыл бұрын
I imagine it depends very heavily on the amount of pressure that's used, and the kind of roofing you've got. Different materials have different physical limitations, and if you use too much pressure, you can even damage intact clay brick and concrete.
