As an Aussie watching this, wow, I've never seen such muck on a roof (because we don't get that much rain as you guys). I hadn't thought about someone having to clean those tall roofs. With out standard sized home, guys get up up on top of the, usually wash then paint over (ours get sun-damaged, mostly). This was a highly educational video. I've watched some of yours before, but cement cleaning. It's my first of you on a roof. I love your work ethic, honesty & genuinely good-guy nature. God bless you with your business, and keep you safe doing those roofs, etc. Take care. 🇦🇺

I appreciate how annoyed you were about the broken tile. I've had tradesmen who couldnt give a shite. When you come clean, people remember we're only human, and it goes down well.

I've had that issue also. Repaired a tile roof, 3 weeks later get called back because of a bad leak/water damage, only to find another trade had been on the roof after I did the repairs, broke 3 tiles & said nothing. Client had spare tiles on site too.

A tip for those that carry water and face misted/frozen windscreens due to condensation - Take a can of cheap shaving FOAM, (not GEL), apply some foam to a microfibre cloth, work the foam into the glass, (inside), and buff until it's no longer visible. This will now prevent the water from adhering to the glass and should leave you with nice, clear windows the next time it gets cold.

I'll wager that tiles was already cracked, and the owner happy to not only learn of them, but also see what a fabulous job you'd done! That (already damaged) tile could've ended up costing them a mint in water damages~

"They might go with you just because they met you and may like you more" I was actually going to do that for getting a gardener in to do the 2 years overdue yard at my house! I looked around for different quotes but the one I'm planning to use, while the most expensive quote, was actually able to explain the whole process of what would need to be done, how it would be done, and gave a reasonable time window. It was only a phone call and pics, but out of all the people I'd communicated with I decided to go with him because he just seemed like the best bloke as a person

2:11 If you're into old games consoles etc then yellowing is common and people use peroxide and sunlight to reverse the yellowing (retrobrite). Although it would be a nightmare to try it on a roof like that. Also some believe it causes the plastic to become more brittle.
@PartridgeExteriorCleaning2 жыл бұрын
yes i've heard that actually, not sure why my brain didnt connect the dots there :D
@RianQ2 жыл бұрын
If it went wrong though, it’s a costly mistake. Probably best to live with the yellowing and not take the risk in my opinion.

Top biz tips there Sid - I run a totally different business but, getting to know customers and building a relationship with them makes a world of difference. And.. don't promise to come out and quote and then no-show because you think it's probably a small job. Small jobs easily turn into bigger jobs, people who want you for a small job may well have other jobs they need doing and once someone trusts a tradeperson, they'll want them back, ask for recommendations for other tradies.. and so on. Don't muck folk around basically!

To stop the windscreen freezing, you should get a car cover or some kind of portable gazebo (I don't know if that is what it would be called in England, but that is what it would be here in Australia.) to put over the front of the car to protect it more from the frost and dew.

Serious question: Here in the Mid-Atlantic US (states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia) we build houses much differently (and probably not as well). We don't have the moss problem on our roofs. But we use plywood sheets covered in membrane and then asphalt shingles. Is it the difference in building materials, or climate? From watching your videos, it seems most all residential homes in the UK have concrete or ceramic(?) tiles.

How about making an aluminium frame with 2 rubber castor wheels that you attach to the pole to support the weight and keep the nozzle off the surface - possible could be used with the small FSC too? Would need to be largish rubber wheels (pneumatic) to deal with unevenness and castor - to allow you left and right movement as well as up and down? Just a thought... may be easier on the arms and shoulders long term too.

It might not be workable, but I was thinking, if you could mount a detachable wheel to the end of the carbon fiber pole it might make using the pole at a distance, a little easier on the arms; could let the wheel take the weight and roll from side to side. I was also wondering if one of those driveway/pavement power-washing heads would work on the roof - the ones that have wheels and spinning nozzles
