By far the best roofing you tube channel. Especially for learning.

It’s almost like roofs are constantly exposed to all the elements. Wind, rain, snow, sleet, hail, the sun, heat and cold. The worse element a roof can be exposed to is a bad roofer. You are a great roofer who does great work and videos worth watching. Thanks for all your hard work!!

Hey thank you for your content. A tradesman is really interesting to watch when they know a lot about their craft. I do mostly drywall finishing but love watching and learning a bit about the other trades; concrete, tiling, roofing are all trades I respect and find interesting. Cool to see that you’re from the Midwest as well. I’m a Canadian who was born and raised in Southern Ontario, and really have pride for the rust belt, and Great Lakes region. The small city I’m from used to build transport trucks and when the plant got moved to Mexico in the 00’s it was hard on the city (biggest employer with good paying jobs). It’s sad to see the decline here especially after COVID now, and with how bad the economy is. I really hope that we can emphasize to our kids that learning the trades is a good way to go, and you can make a real difference doing your work. Thank you again.

Thank you! I respect drywaller’s and finishers! That’s one trade I cannot stand to do. I put too much on and send too much off, it’s a vicious cycle. I’ll gladly pay someone to do that for me. I do what I’m good at doing and pay others to do what they’re good at.

When I got new roof, it was clear that, because we had black metal valleys put in, the ridge caps would look best with a custom folded continuous black metal cap that was a mirror image of the valley. Looks wonderful, and the roofer said that going metal would save me hundreds over the cost of ridge shingles for labor and material. Only looks good if you have metal valleys, but I wish they made ridge vents that are finished metal, not needing to be asphalt capped.

Do you recommend using 2 1/1- or 3-inch nails for the ridge shingles. Gaf provides 3-inch nails with their vents.

Hey Brian, always enjoy your videos. I have a question that I'm not sure your every talked about. What shingles do you recommend for the average homeowner that's looking to do a roof job. A shingle you personally recommend with your experience that a guy can purchase at any local box store. We have contractor shops near me but I'm not a contractor.
@GrandRoofingIncКүн бұрын
I like Owens Corning duration and CertainTeed landmark pro. I’d recommend staying away from GAF if you’re into their warranty, it’s a joke. One of the new shingles I’m looking at starting to use potentially this year is TAMKO Titan they have really come out with a good product. As much as I have hated on their heritage line this one is showing some promise. It doesn’t matter how good the shingle is, if it’s installed the bad it won’t last and manufacturers will find a way out.

Nice vid. What is the fuzzy black thing you tracked into the ridge before you nailed the ridge shingles and what is the purpose?

It was the type of ridge vent that was already up there.

Smoke! From Joliet Illinois. Question for you Brian, from an insurance adjusters prospective I will get contractors that argue that because 3 ridge caps blew off (like this instance) the whole roof needs replacement. Can’t seem to understand that even if it was worn out. Is that just an excuse to get it “bought” or do you think there’s some truth behind it?
@GrandRoofingIncКүн бұрын
Not always, but most of the time people arguing that case are not roofers their salesman. They typically don’t do the work and sub it out. They tend to try to push it off on insurance and then sub the job out to a sub crew. If insurance doesn’t pay for it, they move onto the next door. They don’t want to mess with repair work because one they don’t want to do it and 2 can’t charge enough to get a sub crew to do it. Like I said, not always the case but that’s why storm restoration companies and door knockers are so bad nowadays. They see $$$ not a customer.

I’m not sure if you’re talking about soft washing a roof to get rid of algae and discoloration. Or the other that’s hitting the market about rejuvenating the roof?

@@GrandRoofingInc It's that stuff that is sprayed up there 'supposedly' prolonging shingle life..seems as snake oil being sold to me, but thought i'd ask the only expert i trust on YT.
