Roofing the Shop With NO SAFETY GEAR | Woodworking shop build (Garage part 4)

I made the mistake of roofing my woodworking shop without using any safety gear. Don't be like me, buy and use a harness. This is part of a series about me trying to build a garage workshop for under $25,000 Canadian.

Looking good. Shingles look solid. It might just be me, but I try to never align joints in each row of sheathing, whether that is on a wall or a roof. I have come to understand, recently, that staggering the seams is not necessary on walls, but I would still do it on roofs to help stiffen the trusses. Garages are a great way to learn about construction, in part because you don't have to be as precious about the final product (usually). I have done some garages that were showcases, so there's that! LOL Sorry to see the camera bite the dust! You're doing great at keeping the cost in line. Well done!

Nice work you're doing great. Aligning the sheeting begins when you first lay your trusses, noting the size of the sheeting 8' x 4' or 2.8m x 1.2m. Just ensure that the distance between the outside edge of the first truss and the center of the 5th truss is the same length as the board you're using. Otherwise, you will have a lot of waste or need to add additional support. Either way additional cost

I don't think i've ever done a roof with safety gear, and i've done some pretty steep pitches.

If I heard that right, you were trying to align the trusses with the marks on the OSB? Dont trust that stuff at all, hahaha. Tape measure for anything not on a seam. and... it looks like you didn't stagger your boards?

I was trying to get them at least align reasonably straight to the lines. Yes, I didn’t stagger my boards. Didn’t realize that was a thing until I saw your comment and looked online again. Oops!

@@windfirewoodwork Always stagger. And we'd never trust the board lines, they can be 2 inches off sometimes. Stagger helps the overall joints and blah blah this and that, it makes sense anyways. haha. Not everyone is a framer.
