With Street Fighter 6 the art of Whiff Punishes is back and better than ever, especially compared to Street Fighter V. Its a very basic concept on paper, make their move whiff, and well... punish the whiff, but there's a lot more to it and a lot of sub-arts to be learned, so lets dig right into it in this SF6 guide!
0:00 - Whiff Punishing 101
3:25 - Attacking the Hurtbox
5:50 - Drive Rush for advantage
7:29 - The Shimmy
10:15 - Ya better learn it

Another SF6 guide for you here today, and we are talking about incredibly important concept of Whiff Punishing in SF6! Will talk about all aspects from the basics, to more advanced ideas and help you understand why this is so important! Unlike Street Fighter V, SF6 is tailored around this concept on purpose, so you better get to learning how it all works!

Also for a bit of a sneak peak of whats to come: More combos, finally gonna get more big character guides off the ground(they just take forever to make, thats why they aren't back to back), and I guess due to the support of the Zangief video ill take a look at the cast in Modern next week and figure out who is and isn't worth your time in modern controls.

@@geneticjen9312 Normal jobs, that would be 100% the case. KZbin it isn't though, there is a hyper specific window to catch and I need to hit it as hard as possible. The window is almost done and after that I can go back to normal, but for now its harvest season and I need to keep up the content.

@@rooflemongerThat goes over alot of peoples heads. The content relies on the popularity of the game. Games lose players over time, and Fighting game’s especially are susceptible to this in the most dramatic way. As time goes on less people will be playing the game so there’s also gonna be less people looking for the content covering the game.

also just learn the masterful art of: jab jab jab into hit confirm (or more jab jab jab on block), also learn to jump low kick into jab jab jab. when you reach platinum is the only thing you'll face. With the absence of crush counters in this game, there's absolutely no reason to fire a fierce button unless maybe when confirming a jump in (unless you want to get punished countered for mad damage) had a fun ride, but honestly this game is just KOF15 all over again: down low kick until you hit confirm into level 1/2/3 special.

Go into training mode and figure out the max range of your characters moves. Then, just repeatedly hit the dummy with each move at that max range. Do it at different parts of the screen, shimmy while doing it. Eventually you'll memorize the ranges. For your opponent, you can make the dummy perform moves so it's really easy to learn the whiff punish ranges

In the first section, I think it’s important to note that in neutral you’re not supposed to actually watch them perform a move and only then respond with your whiff punish. There’s very few moves that people throw out in neutral that you’ll be able to punish this way. What you want to do is to predict that the opponent is about to go for a specific poke, and you get into a position where their poke will whiff but you will be able to punish the recovery of it. Watch Juicebox’s video on footsies which covers this in even more detail.

A move that misses entirety. For example: If Ryu hits you crouch medium kick he can combo it into hadoken. If you block Ryu's crouch medium kick he can still go into hadoken making you block it too. BUT if Ryu misses his crouch medium kick he can't go into hadoken since he didnt hit you at all and is vulnerable until crouch medium kicks ends.
