You just tapped so far back into my childhood that I didn't even remember. Burnout 3 is one of my all time favorites. Probably only behind the OG MW2 for my total play time ever. But the first games my Dad bought me for my PS2 was Jak and Daxter and NFSU2... I can't believe I forgot the demo in NFS was where I discovered this gem. Talk about the golden age of gaming, bring back built in demos!

@@RookerVision this game in particular exclusively uses the ps2 bios settings to determine its aspect ratio, so if you have your ps2 (or emulator) bios set to 16:9 it will run in widescreen, any other value is 4:3. it's easy to miss because the menus are stretched, only the gameplay is widescreen.

@@santoscraft Try playing Ridge Racer 5... It doesn't and uses the analog controls for the x button, which makes it near impossible to play for more than 5 minutes, at least on not new controllers. When I play it I'm using a PS1 pad since the X button isn't analog there.

To be fair, the anti-aliasing probably does prevent some flickering on CRTs, which were still very common at the time. In fact, Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl have a toggleable anti-aliasing filter, called "deflicker" in the settings, so that making that call would be left to the players based on their own preferences.

Regarding the use of face button on the ps2 you should use the tip of your thumb for [ ] and X with the middle of your thumb. To switch between them bend and tilt your thumb, bend and tilt it downwards to hit [ ], straighten and tilt your thumb upwards a bit to hit X, this way you could switch pressing the buttons with minimal delay Or just use the right analog stick

@@LNCRFT Not really, there are plenty PS2 games that look amazing and run at 60 FPS. Devil May Cry 1 and 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Onimusha, Shadow of Rome, Tekken 4 and 5, Jak, Burnout 3, Twisted Metal Black, 007 Nightfire, God of War, Gran Turismo 3 and 4, Sly Cooper, SSX3, Ratchet and Clank series, Soul Calibur 2, Timesplitters series, Call of Duty games, even MGS3 has unlocked framerates up to 60 in some scenes. That's a quite a lot of 60 FPS games I'd say, not all of them either.

While I enjoy the game, there are some things I wish they'd done differently, like getting rid of the rubber-banding during races. You can burn a whole 4x boost bar in one go, taking the turns perfectly and you will NEVER be more than a second ahead of the other cars, but if you crash a couple times, you can end up as much as half a minute behind them. If you get a full 4x boost bar and use it intermittently, while driving in the oncoming lane and getting near misses, you can keep it going for pretty much the whole race. And yet, even that isn't enough to keep you ahead of the other racers. At some point, they will go whizzing past you like you're standing still. If you're not boosting every single second, you can't maintain any kind of a lead. And why are the cars that take the most effort to unlock, the worst ones to drive? The classic hotrod? It's like driving a dump truck full of lead. The formula 1? It slows to a crawl when you scrape the railings and oversteers at the drop of a hat. These cars feel more like a punishment than a reward. "You did great! Your reward is a car that drives like s***!"

The reason why the PS2 port runs so well is because, while RenderWare was created in 1993 as a 3D imaging API, its commercial use was specifically targeted at the PS2 due to its technical complexity when programming. It was scalable enough for other consoles, hence porting the game over to XBOX wasn't much of an issue and the headroom provided by the more powerful XBOX hardware was put to use to improve the quality.

The lighting is certainly not better on Xbox. Never was its strong suit. Also better textures? Where?

@@VergilHiltsLT That because the bandwidth for the Xbox was 6.4GB/s with 1 ~ 2GB/s for the GPU. The Xbox version looks like the PCSX2 in hardware mode at 480p60, It worse in crash where you can notice the downgrades more. In revenge the Xbox has horrid frame tearing if all the cars in crash mode are pilled up meanwhile the PS2 has no such issue.

@@MT-ll3tu The bandwidth for PS2 was 48 GB/s, whom are you kidding. Also pixel fillrate was 1.2 Gigapixels/s, while Xbox only had 700 Megapixels/s, that's almost double on PS2. The PS2 also had superfast VRAM type (eDRAM) which is what allowed for insanely high framebuffer streaming speeds, meaning it could produce far better VFX than Xbox ever could with its limited Shader approach. Which is why PS2 exclusives had far better lighting, particle effects, warp effects, full water reflections and much more. Metal Gear Solid 3 is a prime example of PS2's true capabilities, since KojiPro really optimized the Vector Units.

Easily one of the best games I've ever played (and that I still play on my old XBOX) with the best soundtrack of all time, hands down. Gosh, the memories... I spent some phenomenal time on it, even though sometimes it felt frustrating (if I remember I should have about 500/600 hours in it lol) And of course, thanks for the amazing video, man. Xbox version is best, but PS2 isn't bad either surprisingly. Good to see a PS2 multiplatform game actually look and play good. PS2 players usually get screwed over by game companies by getting subpar to abysmal ports with worst resolution, graphics and performance. Good examples are Sonic Heroes, Metal Arms, Resident Evil 4, Max Payne and the whole Splinter Cell series.

in my thinking why both games have very surtitle changes both wear being coded and ported from a separate already made master. half the crew ported the ps2 and the other half ported the xbox version. but all worked on the base constructions of the game was done before porting the the two consoles. just my speculation.

What was the name of the rock song that was playing in thia video at 5:55? I play a lot of B3 Takedown to this very day on my SCPH 50000 PlayStation 2 and my PS2 is so good, it boots up a game almost instantly. Most ps2s when they get old, it takes them longer boot up games.

Compared to Revenge it's a lot darker then I remember. Do you find you have to pump up the brightness a bit?

In Crash Mode you can see on PS2 limited destruction of buses and trucks besides fully scrapable traffic on Xbox. When I realise it on X360 after playing the game for a long time on PS2, I was shocked. However, thanks a lot for comparison! I never know that EA don't have any influence in publishing this Criterion game. Just a perfect game...
