Ian, if you read this, I am about to go to orientation at Melton I’m October. I was going to ask how it was driving a flat bed the first time, and how was your road test?
@ianelbert Жыл бұрын
I liked flatbed a lot, there’s more to the job than just sitting, driving, and waiting. You have to get out and secure/ unsecure a few times per week. And the road test was pretty simple. Just pay attention to the instructors directions and you’ll be good

I like seeing these melton videos. If it wasn't for my current company paying me 0.70cpm I would go to Melton.
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
Yeah 70cpm is hard to beat! Maybe once you’re rich you can drive at Melton just for fun lol

I just got mine to 7.0 with melton with no APU and idling my truck basically 24/7. I just cant keep getting loads in the south and south Midwest during the summer and not have have AC.

Yeah it’s tough when it’s hot. What speed do you usually drive? 7 seems pretty good for idling a lot

@@ianelbert I keep her at 66. 65 is a big sluggish and just seems as if the Cummins I got likes 66 better. I also don’t press the accelerator from a stop, I kind of roll off the brake and then press.

Like the content! Do you still workout when you are OTR?
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And yeah I do. Not every day, but when I have the time and motivation I’ll work out. There’s definitely enough down time to fit a regular workout schedule into your week though if that’s something that’s important to you
@rknottjr2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for sure. I guess I just really liked going to the gym and it’s much tougher to get to one now. I haul hazmat, so I’m a little more limited on where I can can go. Your workout videos are cool! I like how you improvise.
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
@@rknottjr Ah okay, and thanks! Sometimes you just gotta get creative and not worry about looking weird for working out at the truck stop lol

Currently getting my CDL, Melton recruiter went to talk to us and seems like a good company. How often do you get home time?
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
You earn one day of hometime for every 7 days out. And I think that’s pretty standard across all OTR jobs. But melton does have a couple regional routes where I believe you’re home every weekend.
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
And your hometime days never expire and you can use as many as you want at any given time. So you can take a whole month off and it’s not an issue, if you have the days saved up.
@paulstone48042 жыл бұрын
That’s why I am looking at Melton, take some home time days off for trips !

@@ianelbert so you could potentially earn 52 days off a year since theres 52weeks in a year? Or am I not thinking that right?
@ianelbert Жыл бұрын
@@gordonlightfoot1333 that’s correct, and as far as I know you can use as many at a time as you want
@velocity12312 жыл бұрын
They start 0.52 cpm for the freshly graduate driver right. It seems very low
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
Yeah 52 cpm. With the miles I get I average about $1,300/ week. With tarp pay, OD, and hazmat, you’re getting more than just cpm
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t looked extensively but from what I’ve heard 52 cpm isn’t bad for having no experience.

I see you don’t have a gps system… what do you use for your routes? And what do you recommend?
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
I just use apple GPS on my phone and double check everything with my atlas if the route it gives me looks questionable. I’ll also look at the area I’m dropping off in on google earth the day before I get there so I can see what the roads will look like. I would say getting a truck GPS is probably the best thing to do, but I’ve been okay so far lol. And Melton also will usually send a detailed street by street route for when you get close to the consignee l
@sebastianperez67492 жыл бұрын
Yeah kinda what I’m doing now too, don’t feel like wasting money on a gps system. Lol
@Andrewsflatbedtrucking2 жыл бұрын
is there a driver facing camera in the truck?
@ianelbert2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s driver and front facing. It’s triggered by G force I think, so if you slam on the brakes or hit something it’ll take the 10 seconds leading up the event and the 10 seconds afterward and send that clip in to be reviewed
