Rookie tutorial, competitive USSR

Ive been playing this game with a friend of mine who got a german and us army. And he wanted me to create an army of my own so on my birthday he gave me the armoured engineers squad. This vid gives me the right push to build it :D

I call the Soviets the Swiss Army knife of Bolt Action as you can almost use everything the Soviets, US, And the UK had for some equipment and most vehicles be it Recce, tank, Spg, and Sp. Anti Aircraft, and transports. A favorite of mine is the Dodge 3/4 ton truck with either a MMG and even a HMG if points allow for my 8 man squad of Assault Engineers in body armor. As I can use it to get to an objective pile out and then use the Dodge as a mobile MG bunker. And yes the Soviets was given 25,000 of them and they even went so far as to arm a few with 12.7mm Dshk in a mobile AA and convoy escort role, which I modeled mine after with a Dshk on the pedestal mounting over the M-2 that Rubicon offered in their WC-51/52 kit. There is one Soviet vehicle I own that is not mentioned by Warlord or even Easy Army and that is the BM-8-24 (T-60) I used it twice and unlike a truck Katyusha you can at least expose it a little to enemy fire. But again with it not being mentioned any where by Warlord (FAQ, Campaign, and Army Book) you can not use it on the competitive scene. They built about 130 of the things during the war and in fact the last 44 T-40's built on the assembly line was in this configuration. The rest was on refurbished T-60 hulls.

After watching this, playing soviets scares me. It seems they are one of the best, if not the best army to play. How does one counter or play against this? As a rookie, it’s a bit daunting

You remember that it is the player skills, not the army or list, that is the biggest factor in who wins a game. (and also remember that dogs will not run at moving vehicles;o)
