Yo man good vid! @ 8:15 you said that you were going to pull a vacuum then pressure test. Just wanted to know what the purpose is behind a vacuum before pressure test, I've always pressure then vacced. Is this something you do only on rack systems? Cheers! :)
@rookierefrigeration43574 жыл бұрын
Daniel Farrar yes bro. Let me give you a scenario. 1. Pressure test with nitrogen. Suction ball valve is not holding. Now you contaminate 1000lbs of refrigerant with nitrogen. BAD!!! 2. You pressurize with refrigerant from Rack. You verify no leaks. Now you have to dump that refrigerant because it’s contaminated with moisture. BAD!! 3. You pull a vacuum. Then pressurize with refrigerant from Rack. If you have a leak, you can pump the circuit down again and not introduce moisture to system. And you will have minimal loss. GOOD. that is why I pull a vacuum First. This is when you REALLY must trust your brazing. I hope this clears it up for you.

Never put nitrogen in an active rack system.You run the risk is contaminating hundreds of pounds of refrigerant being protected by a bunch of Valves that may be leaking by. Then you really have problems.

One of those units is like a self-fulfilling prophesy, to be able to run it into a vacuum and suck in water. Once the failure cycle begins, it can only get worse ? Is there a low pressure cut out ? You wouldn't thing R-407 would ever suck into the vacuum regions, but if one unit is calling after the others are satisfied -- what is a big compressor to do ? Unbelievable, but what else could it be ?

@@rookierefrigeration4357 Well I looked into it a bit further : If TXV has a leaking seal on the adjustment or the power head, and TXV is partly plugged, venture effect could pull as much as 24 inches mercury (or -12 psi) lower than suction line if fluid pressure is high. That is something a defective TX valve could do. I say 'could do' as part of "a freak occurrence" not very likely but a possibility if power head or cap was loose. Of course it would likely 'never happen'. But on the other hand "anything that can go wrong will go wrong" eventually at some time. Of course the evidence is acid related sludge seizing the mechanism in this case :)

Bet that was warm on the finger... Could have been worse though, set the torch down and end up burning yer biscuits. I can kinda understand the dryer's out there if a compressor blows but at the same time there should be a dryer after the compressor at some point to catch that and there are already filters on the txv's but why would they bury the liquid line in the bottom and put the suction line on the top like that? Any of the lines that have something that can be replaced should be as accessible as possible cause if it can go wrong it will.

You can try using a PT chart on a tank. Or inside the condenser valve off. But If you don’t have any data or info from the txv power head then it’s very difficult. Probably just pull the gas, change the Txv and add virgin refrigerant.
