"ROOM TAG WITH DIMENSIONS" Room Tag That Calculates Dimensions Automatically For Your Room in Revit.

Hey everyone, welcome back to another revit tutorial. In this tutorial am gonna show you how to create ROOM TAG that calculates dimensions based on your room size.
Formulas
Length : if(Area = (Perimeter / 4) ^ 2, Perimeter / 4, ((Perimeter / 2) - sqrt((Perimeter / 2) ^ 2 - 4 * Area)) / 2)
Width : Area/Length

hi great tutorial. however i think there's a slight error in the dimension. when i use linear dimension to verify the tag dimension , the dimension in tag is always 2 inches less than the actual dimension. please clarify

awesome tutorial, thanks. It works wonderfully, just a short question for you. I work on my projects in millimeters, but I would like to show the room dimension tag in meters, any suggestions on how can I do that? by the moment the tag shows the project units (mm).

You can edit the family tag unit properties to override to m and change the decimal places.

Thanks for you kind tutorial, but it is not working in below condition 1. 20 x 10 ok if Width 20 and depth/Length 10 WxL 20x10 2. 10 x 20 if width 10 and depth/Length WxL 10x20 then it is labelded like LxW 20x10 ! hope you understood my problem

How do you round up the numbers so you dont get Dimensions with 1/2" or 1/16"??

Go back to edit the family, edit the the label, select the label parameter, at the bottom of the dialog box there is an icon for "Edit parameter units format", click that and you can adjust the rounding. You will need to do this for both length and Width. Reload the family into your project.

Be carefull this method shows short dimension as horizontal dimension and long dimension as vertical dimension... if you Draw a Room 40'x30' room tag will show 30'x40' because short dimension considered as horizontal dimension thank you

Hi all, "if" youre getting the comma error make sure you copy the whole string including the "if" part, I had this issue as I skipped it thinking it would ruin the formula but it doesnt! make sure to copy as such if(Area = (Perimeter / 4) ^ 2, Perimeter / 4, ((Perimeter / 2) - sqrt((Perimeter / 2) ^ 2 - 4 * Area)) / 2)

Wouldn't it be simpler to write (Perimeter + sqrt(Perimeter ^ 2 - 16 * Area)) / 4 for L?

The idea is nice but the calculation turns out inaccurate for me. I guess it only works when the room is a perfect rectangle

Hi all. My issue was column bumps. You need to unselect "room bounding for walls that are not the 4 enclosing walls. Hope this helps.
