I didn't like the 80's music in the movie at first, but then I warmed to it. Among other things, it conveyed a sense of Marie and Louis' adolescence and how they were put into roles they weren't ready for.

I find it amazing that they filmed this movie in Versailles! Also, the costumes are beautiful!

I love the soundtrack so much. I went out and bought both the DVD and the Soundtrack right after seeing it for the first time. I love how Sofia put traditional french instrumentals (especially the harpsichord pieces) and she also put a lot of 80s music in it. Very fun movie.

Sofia said she wanted to make the film through the eyes of Marie Antoinett instead of the typical portrayal

wonderful movie! the visuals, the art is wonderful. There are historical documentaries about it if you want to see facts. I just wanted to see art on the silver screen.

The movie is made to show us her lifestyle how she lives and her routine but if youre looking for her story and biography it wont satisfy u. It will only satisfy you visually

Actually, in the 18th century, people only bathed once a week, once a month, or even once a year. Aristocrats ate so heavily that when they went into their baths, they risked death because their metabolisms were so low. I believe Louis XVI bathed once a month, and Marie Antoinette was the stand-out: she bathed twice a week.

It was a beautiful movie, but Sofia is right when she says she really "knew nothing" about Marie Antoinette. Her facts and chronology are off and skewed. I wish Antoina Fraiser had more of a say in this movie.

Best Marie Antoniette film is this one.

Because they may not have had baths more than three times a year--totally submerged in a tub of water--doesn't necessarily mean that they never washed. They usually took "maid's baths," washing themselves from a bowl of water.

I loved the movie but find it strange that the director would choose to make a film over a topic she had never studied or researched.

She had a really good book she based it off of- Lady Antonia Fraser's "Marie Antoinette: The Journey" and if you read that then you know that Sophia knew exactly what she was doing and the story she was telling. It's amazing.

Well there's that and the fact they really just covered the party phase of her life, in truth she calmed down a lot once the kids came along and they didn't how anything in regards to what she went through when the revolution happened :-/

Oh I know, I study French History, with particular focus in that period. I do appreciate that Coppola actually showed Louis with a bit of backbone, protecting his family, and didn't leave him a shy bumbler the whole time. She even taught her children about donating old toys and such to less fortunate families. She really did try to be a good mother and queen, but neither her nor Louis were given much education in ruling France...

umm he was just a young person working on the show. He was hired to get Sofia coffee and correlate her scripts lol I wouldn't be surprised if the person that made this wasn't the producers friends son. This was prob made to show at the wrap party or for fun.
