I like how Jen drastically changed Salem's voice for this episode because it helps to show what she was like before she went over the edge. Actually, young Salem's voice kinda sounds like the voice Jen would use for Princess Peach way back in the day

Salem's father never coped with losing his beloved and his daughter did the same..... It's 'Sins of the Father' all over again. So many suffered because these two couldn't grieve & move forward in life. The saddest fact is..... Salem is still writing her 'happy ending'.

Justyn Hill. Probably did intend for all of that to happen. But she was still selfish. Whether it was something always in her, or a product of her upbringing. Oz's story was inaccurate. (Obviously even he did not fully understand the situation. Only her version.) Her father was not an evil sorcerous overloard bent on doing her harm. (Even though it was harmful to keep her locked away.) He was an over protective father who didn'tbwant anything to happen to her. It was Salem who sent letters telling people how evil he was and invited them to come slay him and rescue her. You could say she was swaying mens hearts way before she even left the castle. An art that she learned well and uses to this day.

It’s good to know that people still enjoy RWBY regardless of the backlash and such. I remember hearing Salem’s voice for the first time when I watched RWBY and I have to say I am not surprised that Salem’s VA still sounds amazing. And yes Salem’s VA Jen Taylor drew me in due to me being a halo fan, and hearing Cortana every time Salem isn’t on screen. Like in episode 1 I immediately thought of Cortana, from halo

Yoooo now this really changes some perceptions. As presented in show Salem is like traditional fairy tale damsels that need the heroic knight to save them. But Salem by writing her story down & sending the letters actually in a way saved herself. Thats some meta approach to fairy tales.

Yeah, I liked how the story showed that she was already pretty manipulative. Making her father out to be evil so people would come save her, and seemingly uncaring of all the warriors who died for her. It shows that she wasn't a perfect person and makes her actions with the God's more logical.

Just noticed another parallel: Salem loved stories. It helped her cope but also fueled her desire & goal to get out of her confines. And which character loved stories and also was inspired by them? Ruby Rose. The two are more alike than we realized. Heck maybe this is why Salem is a bit condescending to Ruby. She sees her youthful self in her.

The old lord is more stupid and overprotective than cruel. I actually feel sorry for him. My favorite theory of RWBY is that Jaune is Salem's direct descendant. That symbol on the curtains made it more plausible to me. And for some reason, I can see Jaune being related to the lord. After all, it seems trouble with women is an Arc Curse, at least if you're male

One of the kids could have escaped and went into hiding from her. The emblem in this being exactly Jaune's emblem, minus the crystal, is very telling. Remember that Jaune has an abnormally large amount of aura compared to others. Would make sense for his ancestors to have been powerful people.

The crest on the walls in the tower is similar if not the same then Jauns crest on his shield. They are still fostering that theory that they are related by blood.

It actually is the same crest mixed with another one. So its possible that the Arc family bloodline is linked either as a branch family of the king and queen or tattered Remnants of a long lost kindgom that the founder of the Arc family took as their crest. Could be alot of things, but its hard to believe its a branch family or descendant of Salem because 1 all the pre-remnant humans got wiped by the gods and replaced for the batch of humans without magic and 2 all of Salem's children are dead due to the universe's messiest domestic.

I really feel the true words of Ozma... I miss a lot Ozma and Ozpin... for me, they've done nothing wrong. Salem neither in a way. She just became as selfish as her own shamelessly despiteful grieving father who became the shadow of himself by not moving forward. And, in my opinion, it's the true morale here. If you stay on a bad state of mind without searching any help, you will only harm your surroundings (AND YOURSELF!) and the more they're close to you, the more you'll hurt them, till they became what you feared they'll be. And in this story : Distant. And, GOD I know how difficult it is to find the right help at the right time, so this is why Ozma's words echoed in me : "You rescued yourself" because YOU are by the end your only true helper. You are the only one to find your way out and to make decisions, and most importantly, to take action. For yourself, for what you believe to be just or true. I know I can speak for myself on that, but it's only because I still haven't found my long-seeking help... I've been the Ozma of quite a few people, but some others were just here to make me discover that I'm also the Salem of myself without preventing me from being the shadow I despited... even if, thankfully, I'm able to see that, allowing me to hope and to be helped when the time will be the right one. If Salem became what she is on RWBY, it's because even if she has been rescued, she wasn't ready to help herself lives in the World she only knew on the books. Living isn't a recipe. She got a whole life to cope on and (I think) it was too much for her, confronting her ideals and what she realistically knew from her father-boundings. She was only yet to fail as her father did and by so, turning selfish and distant from that same world she was longuing to know of... I'm sorry for that long thought. But it was a comment yet to be written, and yet again, it's only my opinion on this, so if I wrote it like if that was the truth, just know that it isn't my intention :) It's only how *I* depicted it, and how my vision is out of it, with a self-explaination of the morale I found in it, mostly, I think. xD Sorry... Nobody seems to have gotten the point of it all. The father held fear for losing his daughter, and that fear took over. And out of his fear, came the result he didn't want most. If he trusted his daughter from the beginning and gave her a chance to go outside, she would have never had the desire to manipulate as she does now. It is because of her isolation that she was always so distant and selfish. She never knew normal interactions, nor did she know what living was. All she knew was that when she manipulated someone, she got her way. That's the first lesson she ever learned, and it is because of this miscued reason that all of this happened.

Spoiled is a better term. Being locked in a room against your will would make you plot to get you're freedom. Plus she never understood the concept of death affecting others aside from people she cared about which apparently is only ozmah. Salem probably loved and respected ozmah but after losing him she had nobody to teach her better so with a spoiled attitude she defied her gods and got humanity wiped out but didn't care cuz only ozmah life was valuable to her. Being spoiled became borderline evil when she dived in the pool of destruction which corrupted her body and part of her soul. ,( assuming since the body in unkillable but the soul can be damage as it is a creation). She murderous due to her nature for destruction along with being spoiled and developing short temper if she gets even slightly annoyed
