Men can also face inequities in the workplace as well, and for that reason, we are continuing our conversation on Black hair discrimination. It's a topic that has been at the forefront of one DART police officer's life story for the last couple of years after Dakari Davis was told his hairstyle was "unprofessional."

They would do this to White people, also, if they had long hair, though. This is obviously madness that they are trying to make this into a race issue however, I do think he should be able to wear his hair as he pleases, as long as it doesn't effect his job. Cornrowes might be a perfect alternative to anyone who like to have long hair, White or Black.

Hair has to be cut so that it's off the collar and above the ears as stated by policy. In this respect his hair is both 1. Off the collar 2. Above the ears thus there is nothing in violation with his hair other than the superiors stereotyping the hair style.

As a white male who has worn my hair long most of my life, I was glad to see the case against UPS, originally brought by black males wanting to wear dreads, resulted in all males being allowed to wear their hair long with a few reasonable guidelines maintaining neatness. When I was in my 20s, I worked at Waldenbooks and the rule for male hair was IF it's long enough to go into a ponytail, IT HAS TO go into a ponytail.

As long as it’s not in a way someone can grab or below the shoulders, let them wear it how they like.

This is why states like illinois have a CROWN ACT barring employers from discriminating against ethnic hairstyles. We need this passed on a national level
