I started a queen chunk in pearlite. now it is fully acclimated to 54% humidity in open air. She is rooting like crazy and has two growth pints, she has produced amazing leaves out of the humidity and just pumped out more. I'm pretty happy with her so far!

Aloha Plant Friend, Just re-reviewed your video a couple more times, as I just received an Ecuador Ecuagenera order of seven young bareroot seedling anthuriums. 1st three orders were from EcuageneraUS, and all the anthuriums came potted & established. So accumulating bareroot babies after a longer Ecuador journey is a little more challenging, haha… 1st Queen is an Esmeralda. I wanted the darker Queen also so I ordered a 2nd, but what I actually ordered was Warroqueeanum X Waterburyanum cross. So just received two seedling Warroqueeanum’s, & one looks darker, & one looks lighter. Both are small, but that’s OK. Even though humidity on Maui is around 50% during the day & around 80% at night, all the anthurium babies are checked into a one star tote hotel…… so far no casualties, but 7 new babies just arrived on Maui today. This video refresher is super helpful!!!! Mahalo!!!!

The leaf on the regular Regale is twice the size of my head, with a new leaf starter. The seedling Regale is actually a juvenile with six leaves. The Queen has five leaves & a new starter leaf. There are also plenty of aerial roots on the Queen, & actually could divide already. Thank You Very Much for the extremely wonderful recommendation of Ecuagenera!!!! Aloha

I havent been able to watch your whole video but the first 15 mins or so is very helpful! I just got a couple Queens from Ecuagenera a few days ago. They have roots but some were damaged & rotting away so I had to trim probably 2/3. I'm going to try to get more roots going. Now with the moss/perlite mix in the resivor- the moss doesnt get too wet & rot the roots? I feel like plants I've kept in moss before rotted because the moss got too wet. That's my main concern with trying that method.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet2 жыл бұрын
Hi! So the moss and perlite mix is only if the plant has zero roots and that why the slatted pot or orchid pot with holes on the side is important for air flow. I’ve rooted probably 5-10 queens in moss and probably close to 50 anthurium overall. They are thirsty. Just bottom water the moss with about half an inch of water and you’ll be fine. The moss will distribute it evenly like a sponge. The other thing that’s important is the high humidity-you need 90%+. sometimes plants just don’t make it but I’ve had success over and over doing it this way. Hopefully it all goes well for you!

@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet zero pushback on your feedback about queens (thanks!) Just curious... from my understanding, there are plants that fair better shipping as babies. Have you found that to be the case? Or is maturity generally beneficial for shipping?
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet2 жыл бұрын
@@User_1414b no worries, sorry my reply came across less friendly than I meant it! I would say that in general anthurium do better as they mature. Mature melanochrysum are really sensitive from what I’ve been told but tough as babies. Mature Strawberry shakes are really solid but the babies can be very fragile. Same with verrucosum. My experience with syngonium is that they are tougher as they get older… I can’t think of anything else right now but for queens specifically I’ve personally had experience with the more mature plants being hardier. I think the best way to get a queen is to go to an orchid show and choose one in person from Ecuagenera or tropicals plants. That way you get to choose the one you want and you know what you’re getting into. Good luck! Hope you get one eventually ☺️

@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet omgosh no, your response did not read unfriendly in any way!! I'm sorry if my comment read that way. Thank you so much for these insights!!! I do my fair share of research, but first hand testimony is so helpful 😊
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet2 жыл бұрын
@@User_1414b the devil is always in the details!!!! Honestly with queens, if you have roots and you can keep them in super high humidity, they are really easy going. What’s hard with them is acclimating them to low humidity. Their roots are really sensitive and it doesn’t take much to rot them because they are really thirsty but can’t be too wet. They also grow really slowly in low humidity. I think if you have a cabinet or a greenhouse or something you’ll be totally fine. Acclimating them is the risky part. I love mine but I don’t know what going to do when it outgrows the growtent 😬

Do you always bottom water when you use moss as the growing medium? I have been experimenting with moss a lot in the past few months but feel like I still have not figured out a proper watering technique - sometimes I feel like I’m giving too much water and other times not enough, and it isn’t thoroughly moistening the moss.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet3 жыл бұрын
@@spikedout2323 yes, for the most part I always bottom water because the moss will absorb it and distribute it pretty evenly throughout the pot and you waste a lot less water that way.

@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet Hi again! I have a question about your use of pon this time. I've been doing a lot of research on pon and the correct way to use/transition a plant into this medium from whatever growing medium was being used previously. I purchased a Lechuza Maxi Cubi because I'm interested in using the self watering feature on one of my queens. I'm aware that there is a 1-2 month period where you have to water the plant from the top-down in order to encourage the root growth towards the bottom of the pot before you start to use the reservoir. However, my issue is not knowing how often I am supposed to be watering the pon, since I am unable to tell as easily as I can with moss when the substrate has lost enough moisture to constitute another watering. After being in pon for a few days, I feel like I am seeing more of a decline in the health of the plant and its roots than anything. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!!
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet2 жыл бұрын
@@spikedout2323 ummmmm I usually just start my anthurium in pon in the grow tent so that’s less of an issue because of the humidity levels in there. One of the ones I just moved into pon just started pushing multiple growth points in the grow tent. I would keep it in high humidity until you get new growth.

Girl, I was doing the same thing with pon (not rinsing beforehand) and it seems to work ok until I’d get mysterious spots on the leaves a few months later. As soon as I switched the plants to clean pon it stopped. It took me a while to figure out the issue but it was happening to all of the plants I had in dirty pon and none of the others. I assumed I could run water though it and it’d get cleaner over time in the plants that didn’t have a reservoir but that didn’t really happen. You need to clean the crap out of that stuff. So now I clean a bunch of it after buying a new bag and just let it sit and dry in a bowl until I need it later. The difference has been huge. Unfortunately that dust really just turns to sludge over time and lowers the aerobic benefits of pon dramatically, decreasing its benefits and slowly leading to issues that are hard to pinpoint after a while.
