I read in an interview that Roots Manuva was trying to recreate the Dr Who theme tune when he started working on this beat. Interesting to think it became Witness, but you can still hear elements of Dr Who in the bassline.

I think recreating doctor who is a good project for any new producer. The by product of doing this is youll learn synthesis and effects. I recreated doctor who and the process gave me loads of inspiration for new songs.

Big ups wickedy wickedy word up! I sung this song when I went Busking. Didn't have Internet back then and got most of the words wrong. Got more money than actually working back then.

I studied Music Production at SSR (Manchester) for 4 years and, whilst I really enjoyed and appreciated it there and the tutors were fantastic (I learnt a lot), I would have loved to have Ski. The guy's an absolute gem and it's fantastic that he's willing to share some of his tips with everyone!

I think the arp sample was from Jean Jaques Perrey, or someone similar from that whole experimental moog/modular era...

Yeah the little melody it plays reminds of Camille Saint-Saëns' classical song The Aquarium. so it could very welll be a synthesised rendition of that piece by Jean Jacques, Wendy Carlos, Isao Tomito, someone of that sorts.

@@KaizerMan i actually think it's tomita's take on debussy's prelude to the afternoon of a faun. the samples occur at 00:23 and 00:37. he chopped it and used three different slices which are pitched to the root note, 7 semitones and 9 semitones up to create that progression.

I don't use ableton but how does he apply a low pass filter at 43(hz) in the video and still have sound coming through? i'm trying to reproduce this outside of ableton but that whole filter + resonance part has thrown me of with how he's seemingly selected 42/43hz on a low pass filter, which is obviously not what's happened since that would be practically inaudible. EDIT: never mind, the low pass filter is following the envelope they've set up. i assumed that envelope was for the overall sound. god im an ableton noob haha

They 'sampled' this. The Fall rhythm section were trying to play Witness and it stuck and became "Blindness" apparently.

+Mart In Hiya. Honestly I could have used any of the keyboards lying around in the studio. The KK keyboard has got coloured lights though so looks good on camera :) I love Push, but having learnt how to play piano I find it easier to play in parts using a keyboard rather than the pads
