I feel you as I've had the same devil riding my back for over twenty years. Praying that one day I can shake it off. My dad is my hero, he's been sober for longer than I've been drinking. Praying you continue strong and I see the day of sober living real soon because I'm tired of letting it get the better of me. One day/step at a time. Bless you!

To that comment about why the roots don't get views. it's honestly because the mainstream doesn't really push this type of conscious, do better hip hop. Black is easily one of the best mcs on the mic, but most won't put him in their top 5 or even 10. Even among my own community (the black American community), they don't really get the respect that they deserve. it's a shame really, but it has never stopped them from putting out quality music.
@bridgeofsighs50818 жыл бұрын
The Roots are on their own plane/ahead of their time...however you want to put it. They make you think, and the mainstream doesn't like to think...but they will go down as one of the greatest American bands of all time.
@AnimusBehemoth7 жыл бұрын
Do you think it has anything to do with J5 (and specifically Chali 2na) overshadowing them? Not in terms of talent (both fucking amazing) but press? I grew up in a black neighborhood, hip-hop head all the way, and the Roots honestly passed me by for a damn long time.
@lynnshore96036 жыл бұрын
As a white guy who has loved this band for over a decade now, I slept on these guys early on. And as a fan of hip hop (had Dre's chronic on tape LOL) that made me sad for a little while. But I eventually caught up with their catalog and am glad my friend slipped their record in my borrow stack back in the day. He knew I had heard The Roots but had not embraced them for some reason and that I was sleeping. Phrenology, while not their best record, blew me away. Upon my first weekend with this CD Black Thought instantly disrupted my top 10. As I delved deeper into their catalog he has moved higher and higher until one day I just stopped fighting the inevitable. He is the GOAT and I know it. He has steadily marked his territory with rhymes that remind us of his status and while opinions vary, I always have a hard time believing that people who omit Thought from their top 10 have truly listened to much of The Roots. And if someone can honestly tell you they heve heard at least one full record and still try to omit him, I'll just show them Black's epic 11 minute masterpiece from Funk Flex. There are few "freestyles" that can approach that level in the history of the genre. (If anyone knows one better, plz forward me the link because I have yet to come across a clear contender) If people still don't concede the argument then I guess they aren't really a hip hop head. LOL

Malik B. is my cousin. As you may not know, he became addicted to drugs due to the death of his best friend. Its crazy how many stereotypes can be given & assumptions can be made, just because of "what you heard". Before you comment things, take the time out to research them & found out the truth. These asinine remarks are just outrageous. And for further clarification, he's clean now.

Doesnt look like anyone answered ya, so here it goes. Basically Malik B developed a pretty significant addiction to pain pills and sizzup. Eventually his habits led to an arrest, since he was caught forging prescriptions. Apparently he left the group because of his aversion to traveling, as he is basically a homebody, but I think its clear the drug addiction definitely played a role. Sucks, cause he was nice.
