I think that people who question how much you grow is almost telling that they don’t realize how much a young family eats. Produce takes up a lot of physical space but when you prepare or eat it, it gets much smaller.
@MinnieAcresFarm4 жыл бұрын
And you never know how much will actually produce each season, so planting extra is a safety net.

Jess, I so look forward to your videos. I’ve learned so much but not only that, it’s a joy to watch you interact with your children, sweet Miah, and all your animals. No matter how hard my day is going or how tired I am, When I stop to grab a bite or just to rest my old feet for a minute, and turn your video on, it’s so refreshing and uplifting. Your story about stopping and taking a moment to talk and encourage that young girl, almost made me start crying, because many times I can feel the Lord impressing me to stop and talk to someone and since this crazy Covid thing, because of my health and just being old, I’m not out much, so I miss that. It breaks my heart. Thank you for taking time and I know being a wife and mother, your very busy. Keep being sensitive to that still small voice. You brighten my day sweet Jess! Thanks for expanding on Gabe a little more! I’ve been interested in learning more about him! especially since watching Gold Shaw Farm videos with his guardian dog. I just don’t know a whole lot about farm guardian dogs. Although I used to work in a shelter, so mentioning the Great Pyrenees surrenders struck a cord (you were right on about why they’re relinquished, btw). seeing a family that really takes the time to know their dogs and understand what they can and/ or cannot do (Khan- I get it bud. Chickens are just dog toys that move on their own, right??) and accommodate that rather than trying to force the dog into a specific behavior profile Is so So So Heartening to see. Way to go, guys. Thanks again :-)

Sweet seeing Asher come over to intentionally be filmed. We are getting a freeze soon, 38 tonight and 32 Sunday so I am bringing in the rest of my house plants and picking the rest of my peppers and all the green tomatoes. I didn't get any ripe tomatoes since I did take a huge leap and planted them anyway in July but I actually did get a small Dr. Wyche to ripen and I will grow them again. Alas, none of the others ripened. so there is always next year. I will say that we cut down 2 Bradford pears so we have room for 3 more raised beds. Next year will rock! New hip and new beds, I can't wait!

I figured he was a livestock guardian when I saw what breed he is. I thought I'd just missed the video when you introduced him lol. They also shed ridiculously long hair everywhere. One of my sisters rescued one and he goes on long hikes with them in Oregon. They're stubborn and independent but as you said, they were bred to live within a flock of sheep or goats so you don't want a dog that always looks to people for direction

We have a GP that is “dual purpose”. At night she spends her time patrolling our property and barking as they do. By day she spends her time laying around the house and snuggling with the humans. We have a rescue Great Pyr as an inside dog. I needed a protector pet. He is nocturnal, he used to walk the perimeter of the our yard and the house. He would stay up all night and alert. I trust him with mine and my kids lives. He thwarted a break in at my house. He is very smart and as they are they are very very stubborn and bark non-stop but yes, we can tell which bark is which. They are very cute, but not sweet cuddly dogs. Knowing that going into Pyr ownership was important.

We (the Portuguese) eat tons of turnip greens. We make soup with them, we boil them, make rice and my favorite way to eat them, we mix them until smooth and season with garlic, olive oil and a bit of flour to make them bind sort of like a purée, we call it "esparregado". It's absolutely delicous.

Typically her breed is more hunter but she really watches out for all my live stock including my chickens. She has saved our chickens lives on more then one occasion.
