Financial planner here! I cannot even begin to tell you how many clients I see force open doors only to watch it absolutely blow up in their faces. I know I’m just a stranger on the internet, but I am SO PROUD of the two of you for having the courage to not only stick with your leading and listen to what feels right, but to also share that experience with all of us. It is so rebellious in our current culture to make sound financial decisions and not leverage yourself to the teeth. There is disappointment involved in patience, but being good stewards of the things we are already given always pays off in the end. Thank you for once again living in a glass house as an example and sharing how important management of resources, regardless of your level of success! 💛

You are showing your children how to adjust their expectations to meet the realities of life. You are not settling for less, you are showing gratitude for what you already have. Each other and time to enjoy what you have. A huge burden of debt is rarely the right choice.

I SO understand Jess’s desire to have the forever house while all the kids are still home! We wanted our farm for our six kids, but didn’t end up getting it until we had grandkids. I still wish we’d gotten it sooner, but am grateful for the wonderful life we’ve had both with AND without the farm. Our “kids” now love the farm along WITH their families. The grandkids think it’s heaven on earth!😂

"Sometimes when we don't process what we're feeling, it can fuel us onto the wrong path"...wow, thank you for that. That hits home. I've also found that letting go of "what I thought my life was going to be like" is very hard, but is necessary to obtain peace. At 59, I'm still learning that focusing on God's Will and not my plans is most important.

I know this is random, but I loved hearing Miah say, “go look at the sun” (to force the sneeze). When I mentioned looking at the sun makes me sneeze, my husband looked at me like I was crazy. I’d always thought that was the case for everyone, but it’s not the case for him. I’m glad to hear I’m the normal one. 😂😂😂

For me, my favourite parts of your videos are when you share the decision-making process, whether it’s “should I plant tomatoes in this spot” or “should I can these peaches” or “do we close that door so we can open another”. These moments are where the real learning happens and what a great lesson it is to learn that it’s ok to give yourself permission to assess one’s path and decide to put a goal on hold. Also, to watch TWO people navigate that decision-making process together is even more powerful. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing what is next to unfold on this unscripted journey.

We are in the same boat of building our “forever home” and I have been feeling the pressure to get there as soon as we can so our kids have time there. But then God spoke over me truth and said “It may not be where the kids grow up their whole life, but it will be where all your grandkids grow up their whole life.” Hope that gives some hope as it did me💗

When we built in California, we hired a licensed general contractor who hired US! He was working on a couple of other jobs so we were able to move on with our project under his watchful and educated eye on our own house. He was in and out and always there for inspections but for the most part we did the work with other subcontractors ,friends, and family as needed. Worked out well for all involved. Just a thought! Loved your laughter!!!

When you build your forever home, it will still be a home for all your children and their own families. You will all create so many memories in that special place. Excited to see the workshop become a reality and I think the future house build will be much better because of having it. As an army kid (now grown and moved out), the dream home my parents have now is still home for me even though I didn’t grow up in it. It’s home because the people are there. Since the relationship is there, the house will be the home. And the generational beauty is that my brother’s kids (and Lord willing someday my kids) will grow up with my parents’ dream house as the family house where we all gather. God blessed us richly even though it wasn’t the ideal picture.

Life is a plot twist. We love that you share when things don't go as planned. It makes you much more human and relatable and it's why we love this channel. This is the best "reality TV" on the Tube. 😍💕

After your shop is built and the timing is more right, you might want to look into the Owner-Builder with a General Contractor as Consultant, if that's an option. You do pay a small fee to the General Contractor. You can use the shop as example to the Bank of Miah's abilities and that could sway things in your favor. May I suggest you look into the requirements for making the Shop Kitchen a commercial kitchen? It was nice to see you pivot with such grace. The double-wide is home because that's where you all share your lives and love. Also, Jess, you WILL survive the children growing up and flying the nest. You have been preparing them well. Hugs and God Bless.

So one day maybe your grandchildren will grow up visiting their forever Nana and Poppa's home! Our daughter grew up in the small home we still live in. Our tiny home was the favorite for sleepovers and play dates. Believe me when I say that we couldn't even walk through the house with 5 little girls playing Barbie dolls, forts and My Little Pony! She had a "barn" built by her dad that was a favorite toy for all the girls! Today, she and her husband have a beautiful, small homestead. I hope she has wonderful memories of growing up in a small house filled with love!

It was wonderful watching Jeremiah interacting with you on a whole different level. I loved the lighter actual funny side of him. Listening to the way you processed the disappointment and feeling of grief on shutting the door to the house made me realize that there can be deeper reasons and feelings to life’s disappointments than what is on the surface. I always come away with new viewpoints and understandings . Thanks Jess ❤

Man, I know God put your channel in my life 3 1/2 years ago. You guys are so cute and fun! So many times I am facing something that you talk about. And I will sit with tears rolling down my face because I needed to hear what you say, today is no different. Sometimes I get so impatient…but the pivot is necessary. Thank you for living in a glass house. You bless me by doing so. God speaks through you to get to me so much. I bless you and your family Jessica Sowards. So much love to you guys ❤️🥹

Waiting is always a blessing at the end of the day 😊 God's leading is so amazing. I'm happy Miah is getting his shop. I can see the boys in your shop learning alongside dad.❤ I love your vision!! I am so excited to see how God is working in your lives. "I bless you" a retreat would be so beneficial in our crazy time. Thank you for sharing this change of life 😊 This has been a fun video watching both of you interact

I was trying to force a door open, with an epic trip, to get to see you at the Homesteaders of New England Gathering. This video helped me accept that this is not the time for me to meet you. I'll keep on following your sage advice to “turn your waiting room into your classroom". I learn so much from you both. I adore how Miah helps you laugh soooo much! My dear Matt helps me find the humour so often. Even the planning of the potential trip was great fun. The workshop will be amazing!!! I Bless You. Thank you for living in a glass house, and sharing your hearts!!

I understand greatly how plans change. I thought after coming home from my vacation I thought I would dive back in to gardening. Because of an electric fire, I am rebuilding most of my home. I still feel blessed, no one was home. We are shifting in to having my 70 th birthday party in that yard and reclaiming my space with joy. Is there moments of stress? yes. My point is I understand we need to shift at times. I almost did so many things to update my home and decided to wait. Happy I waited.

I love the honesty and your faith in the journey that God has laid for you. I believe sometimes, manytimes God gives us wisdom and discernment about an issue. When we choose to override the information, we end up with more trouble. I pray God continues to bless you all richly both in your personal and professional pursuits.

We had A very similar situation with a major remodel- hoping it could get done so that the eldest child could enjoy it through high school. It didn't work out that way but each of our kids have come back for a while in their young adult life . We were really appreciative to have the space then!

Jess, I can totally relate to your struggles with Jackson moving out. Our first child moved out two weeks ago today, and I was really caught off guard by the feelings of grief that I went through. I sobbed multiple times a day for almost two weeks. It's a huge life change, so it just takes some time to process all the feelings. But it's getting easier every day. Hang in there, momma! ❤

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I talk about you like I know you personally. sometimes I talk about you to my family and friends as if you were a close friend lol. they ask me, oh how long have you known this Jess for? And it typically say oh around 2016 2017 lol I don’t normally correct them and tell them that I don’t know you personally.
