I do not see aman who has failed. I see a man who has persevered through all that life has offered. That's an important lesson/realization for anyone. This video reminds me of something a friend said to me many years ago that has resonated with me ever since: We don't always get to choose our life experiences. Understanding that has helped me a lot. You are living the dream; you worked for it. Happy birthday!

Keep sharing and being who God created YOU to be! Your content with your Homestead and Gardening skills have inspired me and increased my own gardening skills and garden yields. Please read the comment I posted. It may help. We are all hardwired to the pragmatic approach to life as Americans. However, Jesus told us his kingdom is not of this world. peace, fulfillment and contentment, or more spiritual, and meaningful, especially at our age, I’m 66. man-made religion brings us A false sense of spirituality and acceptance to God. Actually, God is spirit, he rejects the pseudo intellectuals, and he invites us to come to him. Matthew 11:27-30.

My personal mantra is a Nelson Mandela quote: " Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again." I am grateful I found your gardening channel. I had my first vegetable garden this year and I give credit to your advice for its success. I have a freezer full of food and have been able to share with family and friends. Thank you for being such a great teacher and sharing your kindness and your beautiful family with us all. Looking forward to seeing what will come next for your garden and homestead. Happy Birthday and cheers to your health.

Beautiful Brian. I celebrated my 90 birthday two days ago and like you and most others have the scares that go with life, multiple episodes of cancer, a serious auto accident, the death of my wife and parents but through the grace of God I have prevailed humbly and grateful. My beautiful family and second wife give me hope for the future that will always be uncertain but rewarding never the less. May God bless you and your family and may your garden videos continue to inspire and educate us!

Isn’t it awesome that men are having the courage to share their stories, to bare their souls, to be vulnerable and in offering these honest insights, it helps more men to have the confidence to open up too. It’s incredibly important to talk, to share our thoughts and feelings, because it helps us to heal ❤

@@KiwikimNZ If we all made the choice to show up on social media just one day a week as our most authentic, raw, and true selves, I believe the world would move toward healing and genuine reconnection. I’m sure I’m not the only one who sometimes feels like everyone else seems to have it more together. But the reality is, life is messy, and somewhere along the way, we lost touch with connecting in meaningful ways. It does take courage to show up as our beautiful perfectly imperfect selves. I couldn't agree with you more 🫶

I’m sorry, I to have suffered great loss in my life. But I now realize that through much of my suffering and anguish, God was drawing me to himself. Jesus states, his kingdom is not of this world. And yet we as Americans are so driven with expectations of what our lives should be. If I may, leave you with my favorite scripture, Matthew 11:27-30

A very wise older person once told me, when I was a sprout that humans are like the stones we throw into the center of the pond. The stone has absolutely no idea what effect the ripples will have but they move out and away. Like the Christmas movie, It’s A Wonderful Life, we have no real idea how we effect others lives. You have bravely shared your life with strangers. You have no idea how many people you may have saved, inspired, made laugh, giggle or shake their heads in wonderment. Just continue to live your life with kindness and love and know that there are people from all over the world that watch you, subscribe to your channel and cheer you on from their chairs. Bea, cheering you from Southwestern Wisconsin.

Bravo Brian! Thanks for posting this. Listening to you is like listening to my own story except that I just turned 70 this year. I still don't have that mansion or boat that I dreamed about. My wife and I, married 46 years ago, still live in the house that we built in 1979 on an acre of land in the country. We raised three kids in this house. I too, have suffered through catastropic business failures when we didn't know where our next meal was coming from. I nearly died, twice, from blood clots in my lungs. Those hard lessons taught us to be happy with what we have and to trust God to provide a way when we can see none. I drive a 13 year old car, but it (usually) gets us where we need to go. I ride a 45 year old motorcycle that keeps me young. I'm still working, running my own business, doing the work that I love. We're looking forward to the next 10 years as the best years of our lives, not needing anything more than what we have.

I Didn’t realize how much I needed to hear this. I broke my neck and in fixing it, they punctured my esophagus in 3 places. I learned about this 3 months later when I was going septic from an abscess. This led to weeks in ICU, a month in the hospital, months of outpatient IV antibiotics, a feeding tube for a year, losing my business,an NDE and a feeling of loss and shock on why I wanted to come back. It’s been several years and looking back on them I realize the only thing I’m really doing is existing and waiting around to die. I’m still not exactly sure why I’m back, but you’re right, everything that happens in our life is purposeful. If it’s not for our life, then it’s for someone else’s. Moments matter. Your video made my soul call out and reminded me of the tapestry of life. A reminder that every person, event and circumstance in our lives weaves together. Our worst day, prepares us and pushes us forward to our best moments. We often don’t see the real gift of putting ourselves out there. Sometimes it’s when you find out you’ve helped a complete stranger who doesn’t even garden but stumbled onto your video and found myself subscribing. Thank you for the lifeline. Deep gratitude. Time to dust myself off, get up and walk forward. I’m pretty sure good things are still ahead while I’m here. 🙏 “Way I see it, it’s either time to get busy livin’, or get busy dying” -Morgan Freeman

@@janyarborough2673 the gifts from God and the clarity and miracles in those moments have been worth every bit of it. It's in those times that I forget... the times when I get caught up in all the busy non essentials of life that appear "urgent" but truth betold, most of it falls pretty low on the scale when push comes to shove. Usually we are reminded of that when things like hurricanes or accidents or whatever else knocks us off balance. But yes, you are so right. God is always there, especially during those tough times.

Happy Birthday. Love this video. I too was only able to have 1 child. Her father didn't want to be married so I raised her by myself. Talk about over whelming. Now I am in my 60's looking back and realizing I haven't had the life I envisioned. I am grateful for my 4 grandkids. I do not have much but I have them and my health. God is great.

I see things differently, I appreciate things on another level, my relationship with Jesus is on a another level, I laugh more, I find joy in the little things, which I realized are truly the big, most important things in life. The little things are so meaningful. I wish you continued success in all that you do. I will pray for you and your family. God bless you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BRIAN! My Mom just turned 91 on the 22nd as well ! Wow, wow, Brother, so glad you shared you and your family's journey with us all. I've been with you for so many years, just can't count. I always thought you were such a sweet, comical soul, and a wonderful teacher. Yes, like someone quoted before me, "We will get to where we are supposed to be." Raised on a farm in New Jersey, I learned to garden at the age of 4 and still going strong. I cried and cried with you at the end of this precious video. Thank-you for sharing so much of your heart and for the amazing encouragement you have given me. I am SO happy for you! Blessings to YOU and your family!

This video was a masterpiece! Very inspirational! Thank you for sharing your journey. I cried tears of joy with you hearing you talk about what you've been through. Be so encouraged that you have made most of your aspirations from your 20s come true by the grace of God. You live very close to family - maybe not on the same compound, but close. You have made beautiful gardens on your very large property. You are still going - adding more gardens, added farm animals, pond (close enough to a lake), etc. You have a smaller scale version of your dream property. And you have a loving wife and son - do NOT take that for granted. This is coming from a woman who dreamed of a family, but God had other plans (no husband or children for me - most of my nieces/nephews live very far away). I dream of a property like yours and hope I am in good enough health to be able to do a fraction of what you've done when I can finally retire some day, if the Lord allows. I also take for granted the things God has provided for me, too. Although I wouldn't have picked the life I have working long hours in technology, God has always protected my job. I do live close to my twin sister now, and I am paying off my mortgage on a modest suburban home - hopefully before I turn 58.

With a few differences, I would say that I have had very similiar experiences to you. Only difference is that I only had 1 child and was done after the one, and that I never really got off the ground with any of my business ideas. I have the mountain of debt, the dreams of a house on a private lake, the rv...nearly everything. At 35 I feel like I have barely achieved anything. My health scare is liver related and I am still trying to figure out what it might be but its super scarey. I have so much hope for so much more. Some days I feel very down, and other days I feel very thankful. I have been following you since you were California Gardening TV, and you continue to inspire me. Happy Birthday!

Dear Brian, as if I couldn’t appreciate you and your channel more, this video was so special. I remember your first tomato video, too. I think it was the first video of yours I ever watched. Thank you so much for sharing this personal and amazing story with us. Life is a journey--a winding, twisting, up and down journey that we never plan for ourselves. I’m 54, and things are not perfect and our family struggles at times, but gardening and just the simple and beautiful moments in this life make me happy. We make our plans but God directs our steps. ✨ I truly have peace in the chaos because of my faith. I could never muster what it takes to be great or strong or anything else, but the Lord is good and He will fight for us, we need only to be still. ♥️ God bless you and thank you for this heartfelt message. And happy birthday! 🎂✨

Hey Brian. Thank you for this poignant, candid video. I can relate to much of what you've shared. The infertility (we adopted twice and hands down the biggest blessing of my life!), the health conditions (especially these last 15 years and life-threatening), the disillusionment (not achieving my life goals), etc. Your life looks beautiful to me. Your wife, your son (one of mine named Noah as well), your friends, your animals, your homestead...just lovely. I have cried a lot lately about the state of things. BUT...I am loved by my family and by God. I have the sweetest dog who is sleeping on my lap now. My son Noah is hysterically funny and makes me laugh everyday. My other son is one of the most compassionate and supportive people I've ever known. I have been married to the same faithful man for 43 years. No, we can't afford new cars or vacations (we don't have credit card debt but SCE is trying to put us in the poor house!), but I have created lovely yards full of flowers, fruits, and vegetables and I'm grateful for that. Thanks so much for using your time and talent to teach me what you know about gardening and homesteading. Being outside with my garden, my dog, and my God has helped me fight depression and helped my physical health. So, thank you, Brian, and happy 50th birthday. I am older than you. Keep doing what you're doing. It will add life to your years and years to your life!! ❤

And you will feel blessed beyond measure. Happy Birthday Brian!!!! 50 looks good on you!!!!!🎊 🎂🎁🎊

You have helped me tremendously in the garden my first attempt at gardening was three years ago at the age of 65. I had never grown anything but I lost both parents four days apart in 2021 and had a double funeral and I found myself at 65 with nothing to care for. Your videos taught me how to give life to a garden and make it thrive. I took two properties mom n dads and mine which are side by side on waterfront property on Long Island in New York and turned it into a food Forrest in a very unlikely environment thanks to your channel. God Bless you. You helped to get me through my grief losing my greatest gift, my parents and channeling it into a beautiful tribute on their property that pleased the boating community and fed many neighbors, family and friends. I can now comfortably sell their home knowing I did my best for them. God Bless. Thank you.

Happy Birthday Brian! Thank you for sharing this video and laying bare your thoughts and feelings, I am sure there are many who can relate to what you said, just like I can. God has a grand plan for each one of us, we may not realise that in the moment, but when we look back, each of the situations/ experiences were necessary to bring us to the point where we are. We have a saying here in India - Don't ask/ pray to God for what you want. Instead ask/pray for whatever might be the best for you, as only He knows what that is for each one of us. Stay blessed ❤
