Would have been great to have, but I despair of living until Bruce releases this version for us to use. Wish he would release what he's done and then use the Updates to fix bugs. Would REALLY MAKE OUR LIVES COMPLETE.

Matter of opinion. I prefer the old one. This one reminds me of the difference between the default UI of Win2K and Win7. It has that Fisher Price look. Maybe something that would look more appropriate on a social media site. Probably the first version of Rootsmagic that I'm in no hurry to upgrade to.

Greg Kleist with half the world locked up in isolation now would be the perfect time wouldn’t it. Surely it must be imminent? Keeping dropping preview videos showing a fully working piece of software if it is nowhere near launch is cruel and unusual punishment!

Greg Kleist I remember what happened when Bruce rolled out the version (was it "RM-6" ?) that worked with the new.familysearch.org, All the other vendors were scrambling to be the "first" to get their product out there. They were anxious to get market share quickly. Bruce, on the other hand, was dead last! Why? For the same reason RM-8 is taking so long. Unlike other vendors who are moved by market pressures, etc. the thing that moves him first and foremost is product quality. He refuses to put a new version out there until all the major bugs are worked out. This may have cost him customers in the past. More likely, though, it impresses more people than it chases away. People in the software business know and respect designers like him because they know he's like an olympic racer when it comes to keeping his eye on the goal. His goal is to make sure the product he delivers works to the best of his abilities. It happened that he predicted RM-8 would be released by now. It wasn't. That had to be embarrassing announcing that he couldn't make released date and didn't know for sure when RM-8 would be released. One thing I know. It will be ready when it's "ready", in other words, you won't be disappointed that he should have tested it better.

Will it be possible to display selected individuals with family name first. This is standard, for example, in Hungarian and Chinese. Also is Unicode fully implemented, including right to left scripts like Arabic and Hebrew?

You didn't mention media files and linking them, or the great reports to find missing birthdates, multiple entries for places that are spelled differently and can be merged ( all those great clean up tools)

I have used a dual boot of Windows and Linux for years. Recently I switched over to Linux only. I have used RootsMagic for years and never had a problem using it on Linux with Crossover. I am a beta tester for RootsMagic 8 and unfortunately it does not work in Linux using Crossover.

Just bought RM8 and am following each 10 minute video you have put up. On the people page-I absolutely cannot find how to open the info side view on the right. I do have the family view open but the info panel does not show, nor does a google search tell me where to find it. Frustrated. Thanks for your help.

I have just watched the video of the Feb live demo and was v encouraged by the 'collapse' function in the descendant view. Will this function also be offered in the printable charts etc? I'd find it a great help as I have so many families with umpteen children and their umpteen descendants [etc etc] and manually re-organising them within the report screen to produce a visually acceptable print-out [eg in descendant wall charts] is next to impossible. Am looking forward to RM 8 as it appears much neater and nimbler to use. If the various printouts are equally user-friendly it will be really great.

Whenever you do another video, but please keep working on the software, I would like to see how tree share is going to work in the new version. I've been anxious to see how its going to work in RM8 and that hasn't been addressed yet. I can wait though! I'd rather you get the new version out as soon as you can. Just a request for a new video when/if one gets made though.

So with this software; are you essentially buying the ability to build trees. I get the impression to access historic data you almost have to pay for a secondary subscription to Ancestry or MyHeritage, both of which arent cheap?

I have a few thousand Web Tags in my version 7 file. I've been waiting to see where they get places in Version 8. Did they survive the versions change? Can you describe/show where they are in the newer interface? BTW - I love the new interface and the ability to open multiple files and 3 views per file!!!

Would really appreciate seeing the color coding more. How do you do it? Is it easier than RM7? What about creating groups? You shows creating check boxes, which is great, but can they still be populated with a search? Also don't see how to access the reports or tools or treeshare or familysearch etc.

I have a question: Will we be able to crop photos? If photo has more than one person and I want to crop to one and use as the primary photo, I am not currently allowed to do so. It's done that way on Ancestry.com but when I brought my Ancestry tree to Roots Magic, the whole photo is showing. I hope this is something that can be accomplished before release. I LOVE THE UPDATES you've shown for Person Page in this preview video. Especially to color coding; can we have orange? Thanks to you and your team!

Oh and when there are two people in one picture, can it be cropped one way for Person A's primary photo and another way for Person B's primary photo?

Re. Color coding, will dual relatives show two or more colors? ie. Say your grandmother and grandfather are first cousins, their fathers are brothers but you colors are different for each brother, would the married first cousins be able to reflect both colors?

Plus it'll be on their website, facebook page and multiple other places. this isn't aimed at you personally, but I just wish sometimes that all those that complain, who obviously don't have a clue about what goes into programming, creating something like RM, or building software would actually take some time and learn about the process. Might make them more patient and understanding.

@@paintitblack4199 thats strange. I receive emails from them at least every other month telling me news, updates, etc. Most of it is the same as when you start RM. If youre not getting those, though, then maybe resign up or check your soam filters.

YUK! What have you done to the UI. This Windows 2.0 look and feel everyone is going to is destroying eye appealing UI's. I'll stick with my Roots Magic 7, I won't move to 8 if that's what the UI is going to look like.

That of course is your privilege and no-one is forcing you to change. Personally, I am looking beyond just the UI and really can't wait to use all the new features which are going to be so useful to me.

Personally I'm very happy to see it. The UI appearance has really been the one negative I've had with RM and very happy to see it getting overhauled and updated.
