Americans already forgot how Mitsuyo Maeda and Mikinoshuke Kawaishi run accross the USA fighting boxers and wrestlers on the demand of Jigoro Kano to promote the efficiency of Ju-jutsu / Judo. And how Judoka made a demonstration in front of president Roosevelt who was so impressed he decided to make Ju-jutsu / Judo the main fighting style of the US Marines.

Not sure if myth or true about Milo using brass knuckles or that Lebell kept doing sustained flatulence that was really pungent when holding Milo to antagonize and distract him. They may well be true not saying they are not or could be myth. Saying his belt got torn apart because of the brass knuckles under Milo's gloves? He is still wearing it at the end and very hard to tell if it did get ripped, not like it is HD quality lol. In any case Lebell definitely won! Check out Lebell on IMDB = he has been in around 150 movies acting and around 250 doing stunts WOW!

This is Milo Savage's professional boxing record. boxrec.com/boxer/10919 As you can see, he was well past his prime in 1963, and had amassed in excess of 40 professional losses in the boxing ring by that point. He does have some recognizable names on his record though. My guess is that Savage's prime as a boxer was in the late 1940's and early 1950's, and from the appearance of his record, he was a fringe contender at best, although I really don't know much about him at all.

The point being that his use of Judo only in this fight doesn't alone prove anything about his other fighting skills. It's not a defense of any boxing skills or other, I just think there's better arguments for you to prove your point.

missing the point again. one look at the footage will tell you those gloves weren't effective for grappling. Gene had a hard time dealing with a much smaller guy out of his element in a new discipline, but he and the announcers keep loading the feature to make it seem like some type of disadvantage on his part by using terms like "ringer" for a 50/50 fighter. If anything Milo should be the one commended for stepping into the ring against a much larger dude with a wrestling background. Loaded gloves too? The excuses keep piling on….

Josh Smith You just dont have a fucking clue what you're talking about. Is this the only time you have heard about this fight? It seems it. You judge this event in modern terms without any understanding of the context. Of course Gene was going to win. Every person watching this now knows grappling dominates striking. The point is back then no one thought a boxer could lose to a "Judo Bum". White fans about rioted when a white judoka beat a black boxer. In the 60's.

Why wouldn't Gene just do a boxing match with a boxer ???? Like really a boxer cant wrestle let alone do JUDO LOL. Remember Gene said SR Robinson hit him in the head like 300 times. He lost in sparring.

Milo savage was smaller, lighter, washed up and had a bum record. Lebell sucks.

You mma/martial arts clowns really make me laugh. Milo Savage's record was 49 wins, 46 LOSSES, AND 10 FREAKING draws. Meaning, this dude wasn't even good enough to even win 'most' of his fights. This "boxer" was NEVER a contender or even a top-ranked boxer just like Art freaking Jimmerson was NEVER a contender/top-ranked boxer. What's next? Are we going to be seeing videos of how Mr. Gracy beat a sub novice, Golden Gloves, fighter runnerup? :p Come at me, bro. My Tiger Kungfu...is better than yours. I don't think you're good enough...to avenge your master.

That was the boxer the boxing camp picked to right Gene. Gene didn't pick his opponent, the other side did.

Yeah but World Champions like Francois Botha, James Warring, James Toney and other boxers like who never won World titles like Izu Ugonoh, Julius Francis, Mark Potter, Carl Dilks, Yuri Vaulin, Matt Skelton, Heather Hardy etc All did MMA and got beat. Holly Holm did better than any boxer converting to MMA. You are right though that they are overhyping this victory.
