Alan, the modern Roman Catholic church is nothing like the early church. Did the early church seek to become a sovereign nation, to have its own army, political corps and bank? Did it seek to amass countless billions in wealth? The early church did not have the role of priest. And it did not decree that the church officers should be celibate. The early church did not consider itself to be above the secular laws of the land and to use this immunity as a way of protecting paedophiles and sodomites. The early church did not burn people for wanting to translate and read the Bible in their own native tongue.

“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Mathew 16:18 Jesus said “my church” will be built by Peter, not James. It’s seems evident to me, although I can be wrong, that James, like all the Apostles were a part of the one Church built through Peter as was evidenced by the next verse where Jesus gives Peter specifically “keys of the kingdom of heaven.”
@anthonypolonkay2681 Жыл бұрын
The rock jesus referred to was what Peter previously had said to Jesus. Jesus asked Peter "who do you say that I am?" And Peter replied "you are the one true son of god" Jesus then tells him "blessed are you Peter, for the world hath not revealed this to you, but my father who is in heaven," And after that he states that "you are Peter, and on this rock I will build a church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" The rock being referred to is belief in jesus christ as the true son of god, not Peter the apostle. The interpretation that he is referring to Peter as the rock comes from the fact that the Greek word for rock "Petra" is very close phonetically to the name Peter. Wich is a neat literary thing, but that is by no means a solid basis to build religious dogma on that you tell people they are anathema if they don't believe it.
@johnshaff Жыл бұрын
@@anthonypolonkay2681 yours is a very old critique, to speak it so confidently. Yet both of our limited wisdoms have been preceded by literally thousands of Catholic saints stretching back to the early church fathers, who knew the apostles and followed after them. These were wise and learned scholars who didn’t have the distractions of the modern world but instead devoted their life to theological scholarly work. You might want to visit, even a modicum of their writings on the very thing you say, before you place your intellect above theirs, or your experience (far removed from theirs) above there experience in the early church. Furthermore, unlike schismatic sects, the Catholic Church has records going all the way back to the apostles themselves. The first pope to follow Saint Peter was Pope Saint Linus. Linus was the immediate successor to Saint Peter, making him the second Bishop of Rome, or Pope. His pontificate is dated to c. AD 67-76. The early Church’s records on the succession of bishops are not entirely clear, but Linus’ role as Peter’s successor is affirmed in writings by early Church Fathers such as Irenaeus and Eusebius.

If Roman Catholicism claims to follow Christ and His Bible, then start teaching and FOLLOWING the Bible. Stop teaching things that CONTRADICT what The Bible actually says. We really shouldn’t need to even be having this discussion. Who would have thought that simply FOLLOWING THE BIBLE would be controversial for Christians? If we as Christians claim to be followers of Christ then FOLLOW WHAT HIS BIBLE SAYS! The Bible needs NO additions. It needs NO subtractions. If the Bible says it, believe it and own it! If something speaks CONTRARY to The Bible we are called as Christians to “contend for the faith” and speak out AGAINST heresy. “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude 1:3 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” Ephesians 5:11 If we claim to be followers of Christ, simply follow and believe what He said was true! Trust in HIM, NOT in man made “religion” Following is a summarized paragraph with references found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) of many of the false teachings of Roman Catholicism. How do we know they are false? By comparing Scripture with what is taught. The Catholic Church is the one true church (CCC 2105), Infallibility of the Catholic Church, (CCC 2035), Only the Roman Catholic Church has authority to interpret Scripture (CCC 100), The Pope is the head of the church and has the authority of Christ (CCC 2034), The Roman Catholic Church is necessary for salvation (CCC 846), Sacred Tradition equal to scripture (CCC 82), Forgiveness of sins, salvation, is by faith and works (CCC 2036 CCC 2080 2068), Full benefit of Salvation is only through the Roman Catholic Church (Vatican 2, Decree on Ecumenism, 3), Grace can be merited (CCC 2010 CCC 2027), The merit of Mary and the Saints can be applied to Catholics and others (1477), Penance is necessary for salvation (CCC 980), Purgatory (CCC 1031 CCC 1475), Indulgences (CCC 1471 CCC 1478 CCC 1498 CCC 1472), Mary is Mediatrix (CCC 969), Mary brings us the gifts of eternal salvation (CCC 969), Mary delivers souls from death (CCC 966), Prayer to the saints (CCC 2677), The Communion elements become the actual body and blood of Christ (CCC 1374 CCC 1376). At the Council of Trent, the Roman Catholic Church declared the Gospel that THE APOSTLES preached..... an anathema. In Session 6. Canons XXIV, IX, XII, XVIII, XIX, XX, XXVII, XXIX, XXX, and XXII. I urge anyone reading this to look this up. You will see it’s true. Satan has blinded the eyes of millions and millions of Catholics. I pray for them often.......... The Bible says..... “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8-9 Roman Catholicism ABSOLUTELY preaches a “different gospel” and is guilty of this passage from Galatians. ACCURSED! That’s a pretty serious charge. Those are The Apostle Paul’s God Inspired words. Again, The Bible disagrees with MANY of Roman Catholicism’s teachings. Rome’s problem is with THE BIBLE, not me. I’m simply praying for you that you see the beautiful Light and Glory of the pure and true gospel before it’s too late. I didn’t write the message, I’m simply a messenger. Get in your Bibles everyone. Read it, believe it, own it, defend it! Preach the entirety of The Bible with grace, mercy and truth and point the lost to Jesus! I don’t say this to argue, I say this because it’s the truth and the truth matters. Doctrine matters. Salvation matters. I honestly pray for you all. Please, in the quiet of your heart ask yourselve, Why do many of Rome’s teachings CONTRADICT The Bible??? Put your trust in God, NOT Rome. “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Colossians 2:8 One last thing Below is a post I copied from the “pope”. Anyone who actually does study the Bible will know how incredibly unbiblical and wrong it is. “Mary is not only the bridge joining us to God; she is more. She is the road that God travelled to reach us, and the road that we must travel in order to reach him”. This blasphemous statement was written on the “pope’s” Twitter account. March 25th 2021 at 5:31 am. I urge everyone to look it up for themselves. It is not only unbiblical but is an absolute insult to The Lord Jesus Christ. My heart breaks for the millions of people that Roman Catholicism has blinded. I pray that you see God’s truth before it’s too late.

This is what kills me. Catholics will say “look to scripture” and you see “upon this rock I will build my church”. This line is what the Catholics use to justify why they should rule, and have a pope. Look at the very next verse in any Bible and what does it say? Peter decides he can call the shots and Jesus tells him “get behind me Satan”. This is prophetic. Catholics, Don’t take your position of leadership and morph it into a position of authority. You aren’t in charge, you aren’t the head. Christ is.
@jeremyhill9720 Жыл бұрын
You're being intellectually dishonest and disingenuous. The following verses do not point to Peter trying to use his authority over God, it is for his love of Christ that he tries to convince Jesus not to go to his death, to claim that Peter would believe he has authority over God is the most foolish thing I've heard. Peter wants Jesus to be the Messiah dictated in the old testament, the political and warlike figure that will conquer the nations of the earth, and not until crucifixion does Peter learn the lesson that Christ came to teach, Peter is still of a Jewish mindset. What you have a hard time understanding and contending with is the fact that Peter is given the full authority of the church by Christ, and you trying to offer the next verse as some sort of rebuke against him shows that you have little faith, as if God didn't know what was in Peter's heart. Jesus rebukes him for not fully trusting in him at that moment, knowing the great and holy man that Peter would become. And to the point of the video, no other Apostle is given the authority that Peter is given by Christ, the keys to the kingdom, for this reason and many more, Peter is the first Bishop and pope, and the responsibility of leadership was with him.
@mattthetrucker5585 Жыл бұрын
@@jeremyhill9720 yes, on the first part. He did both. His love for Christ blinded him. I don’t doubt any Catholic’s love for Christ. It’s not his authority over God so much that is the issue as it is overreaching. The Papacy is an overreach, they went beyond their authority, just as Peter tried to. Now on the keys of the kingdom, this is understood to be directed at Peter, and I’m A-ok with that being the case. I venerate St. Peter as any other saint, but the purpose of the “get behind me” line was to show that even he who was given authority must not overreach, must not let their love, pride, earthly ideas of what needs to happen override what the Lord intended. I’m not calling for people to leave Catholicism, only to correct their leaders and remodel one of the very few aspects where the Church has failed. Easiest evidence, if you’re one to believe the Bible as I do, is testing them. “By their fruits you shall know them.” Rainbow shawls, female priests, physically elevating the Pope so he always is looking down on the faithful, just go through the New Testament and see the guidelines given to early church leaders and see if the Catholics are being faithful. And sadly, I believe most are, but the leadership is forcing them to become worldly. “Do not be of this world.”

Let's just say that Jesus gave Peter the authority over church. What makes Catholics think, that he would have successors? Jesus didn't mean Peter as the rock, because the name Peter means "a piece of rock"; wouldn't it be weird? Also wouldn't he just say: "on you I'm gonna build"? Of course he wouldn't because it's stupid. The church is built on Christ, on our faith in him. On the fact, that God reveals the truth and not the flesh and blood. On God. Matthew 16:17. Always read context. Don't be cheated by people who show you some verse and add to it their own philosophy. Galatians 1:7. Also, don't trust me. God bless you.

I will give you the KEYS to the KINGDOM, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven..” what is “Rock” for the Jews what is “keys” for the Jews (Isaiah 22)

Matthew 16:23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are [a]an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
@g-radm382710 ай бұрын
@@theophanmackey3414 yes, but Jesus wasn’t referring to Peter as Satan, otherwise Jesus, God must have been confused. Peter’ s refusal is seen as a “satanic attempt to deflect Jesus from the God-appointed course and the apostle is addressed in terms that recalls Jesus’ dismissal of the Devil in the Temptation account ( Matt 4:10 get away Satan”). Peter’s satanic purpose is emphasized by Matthew’s addition to the Marcan source of the word “you are an obstacle to me” . Also these events occurred way before Pentecost, real game-changer. So don’t count Peter out or think Christ must have been confused about Peter. Because in Acts, there you will see Peter’s authority being told and obeyed. The Church is an institution, in addition to being the “pillar and foundation of truth” . It has a hierarchy. The Church is also a Kingdom, God’s kingdom present and alive “on earth as in heaven.” If it’s a kingdom, it must have a King. It the King knew He was going to leave to rise up and “sit at the right hand of the father.”, and when the King is away (Isaiah 22) who takes over the reigns of the kingdom? “Upon you I will build my Church”, took them for a 2 day walk, just to talk to them about this? What’s is in Caesarea Phillipi? Why is it so important? Why did he take them there only to ask them what people think of him? It’s the land of the Gentiles, pagans. It’s as far awa from Jerusalem as you can be but still within the kingdom. It is used to be called “Paneas”, after the pagan god Pan ((half human-half goat), it is in present day southern Lebanon. There’s a “rock” there, it measures 300 ft high and 500 feet in length. Scholars believe Jesus was talking to the apostles by a hillside opposite this huge rock which dominates the landscape. It is still there today. Within this rock is a cave with hallowed out portions on its side, places for statues and images of their gods, where they can worship and offer sacrifices to them. Also inside in a deep hole in the ground, a cavern so deep that the pagans believed there was the entrance to the netherworld., to Hell. They would kill, offer, and throw their sacrifices down there , sometimes human, many times children. . Land of pagans, rock? ..Jesus, “rock.. “build my Church”, “and the gates of Hades shall not overcome it. again, coincidence?😃 Jesus was clearly establishing His Church and His authority on earth with Peter as the priestly and royal minister of God (again, Isaiah 22) of His kingdom, His Church. Perfect setting and set-up huh? Saying those words, establishing His Church , in a manner of saying “this land will not be pagan anymore, alluding also to the prefiguring of the acceptance of the Gentiles into Christ’s promise and kingdom. I mean, just imagine an institution without a hierarchy, organization. That would be chaotic and divisive, and puts the sanctity of God’s Word and teachings through the Magisterium, at risk of being misunderstood and wrongly interpreted thus putting the souls of many, of the faithful at risk., the Church- “the pillar and foundation of truth”. 1 Tim 15. Note: in ancient Judaism (Jesus, Peter, the apostles were ALL Jews, Mary included, remember that) the Temple was built around a “rock”, called the “evinshetiyah” in Hebrew(Mishna, ancient rabbinic writings)., or the “foundation stone” . The 1st Temple in Jerusalem was built around a rock believed to be the same rock Abraham laid his son Isaac upon to be sacrifice as God commanded. That rock was placed inside the Temple, inside the Holy of Holies, and upon which the Ark of the Covenant rested. That was a mouthful huh, lol. That “rock”, and the “ark of the Covenant” will then take front and center later in Revelations. Peace out. 🙏

@@Psychosis1179 why would you make such an accusation? Why would I just read one part of a Bible?
@Psychosis1179 Жыл бұрын
@@doremimusichonolulu6854 because most Catholics I’ve encountered do. They’ll read one verse and ignore the rest. Saint Augustine agrees that Peter wasn’t the only one to receive the keys nor was he special in any regard other than being the first disciple to acknowledge christs divinity. And I tell you…‘You are Peter, Rocky, and on this rock I shall build my Church, and the gates of the underworld will not conquer her. To you shall I give the keys of the kingdom. Whatever you bind on earth shall also be bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall also be loosed in heaven’ (Mt 16:15-19). In Peter, Rocky, we see our attention drawn to the rock. Now the apostle Paul says about the former people, ‘They drank from the spiritual rock that was following them; but the rock was Christ’ (1 Cor 10:4). So this disciple is called Rocky from the rock, like Christian from Christ…Why have I wanted to make this little introduction? In order to suggest to you that in Peter the Church is to be recognized. Christ, you see, built his Church not on a man but on Peter’s confession. What is Peter’s confession? ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ There’s the rock for you, there’s the foundation, there’s where the Church has been built, which the gates of the underworld cannot conquer (John Rotelle, Ed., The Works of Saint Augustine (New Rochelle: New City Press, 1993), Sermons, Vol. 6, Sermon 229P.1, p. 327). But whom say ye that I am? Peter answered, ‘Thou art the Christ, The Son of the living God.’ One for many gave the answer, Unity in many. Then said the Lord to him, ‘Blessed art thou, Simon Barjonas: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but My Father which is in heaven.’ Then He added, ‘and I say unto thee.’ As if He had said, ‘Because thou hast said unto Me, “Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God;” I also say unto thee, “Thou art Peter.” ’ For before he was called Simon. Now this name of Peter was given him by the Lord, and in a figure, that he should signify the Church. For seeing that Christ is the rock (Petra), Peter is the Christian people. For the rock (Petra) is the original name. Therefore Peter is so called from the rock; not the rock from Peter; as Christ is not called Christ from the Christian, but the Christian from Christ. ‘Therefore,’ he saith, ‘Thou art Peter; and upon this Rock’ which Thou hast confessed, upon this rock which Thou hast acknowledged, saying, ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God, will I build My Church;’ that is upon Myself, the Son of the living God, ‘will I build My Church.’ I will build thee upon Myself, not Myself upon Thee. For men who wished to be built upon men, said, ‘I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas,’ who is Peter. But others who did not wish to built upon Peter, but upon the Rock, said, ‘But I am of Christ.’ And when the Apostle Paul ascertained that he was chosen, and Christ despised, he said, ‘Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?’ And, as not in the name of Paul, so neither in the name of Peter; but in the name of Christ: that Peter might be built upon the Rock, not the Rock upon Peter. This same Peter therefore who had been by the Rock pronounced ‘blessed,’ bearing the figure of the Church (Philip Schaff, Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1956), Volume VI, St. Augustin, Sermon XXVI.1-4, pp. 340-341). And this Church, symbolized in its generality, was personified in the Apostle Peter, on account of the primacy of his apostleship. For, as regards his proper personality, he was by nature one man, by grace one Christian, by still more abounding grace one, and yet also, the first apostle; but when it was said to him, ‘I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven,’ he represented the universal Church, which in this world is shaken by divers temptations, that come upon it like torrents of rain, floods and tempests, and falleth not, because it is founded upon a rock (petra), from which Peter received his name. For petra (rock) is not derived from Peter, but Peter from petra; just as Christ is not called so from the Christian, but the Christian from Christ. For on this very account the Lord said, ‘On this rock will I build my Church,’ because Peter had said, ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ On this rock, therefore, He said, which thou hast confessed, I will build my Church. For the Rock (Petra) was Christ; and on this foundation was Peter himself built. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Christ Jesus. The Church, therefore, which is founded in Christ received from Him the keys of the kingdom of heaven in the person of Peter, that is to say, the power of binding and loosing sins. For what the Church is essentially in Christ, such representatively is Peter in the rock (petra); and in this representation Christ is to be understood as the Rock, Peter as the Church (Philip Schaff, Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1956), Volume VII, St. Augustin, On the Gospel of John Before his passion the Lord Jesus, as you know, chose those disciples of his, whom he called apostles. Among these it was only Peter who almost everywhere was given the privilege of representing the whole Church. It was in the person of the whole Church, which he alone represented, that he was privileged to hear, ‘To you will I give the keys of the kingdom of heaven’ (Mt 16:19). After all, it isn’t just one man that received these keys, but the Church in its unity. So this is the reason for Peter’s acknowledged pre-eminence, that he stood for the Church’s universality and unity, when he was told, ‘To you I am entrusting,’ what has in fact been entrusted to all. I mean, to show you that it is the Church which has received the keys of the kingdom of heaven, listen to what the Lord says in another place to all his apostles: ‘Receive the Holy Spirit;’ and straightway, ‘Whose sins you forgive, they will be forgiven them; whose sins you retain, they will be retained’ (Jn 20:22-23). This refers to the keys, about which it is said, ‘whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven’ (Mt 16:19). But that was said to Peter. To show you that Peter at that time stood for the universal Church, listen to what is said to him, what is said to all the faithful, the saints: ‘If your brother sins against you, correct him between you and himself alone’ (John Rotelle, Ed., The Works of Saint Augustine (Hyde Park: New City, 1994), Sermons, III/8 In a passage in this book, I said about the Apostle Peter: ‘On him as on a rock the Church was built’…But I know that very frequently at a later time, I so explained what the Lord said: ‘Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church,’ that it be understood as built upon Him whom Peter confessed saying: ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God,’ and so Peter, called after this rock, represented the person of the Church which is built upon this rock, and has received ‘the keys of the kingdom of heaven.’ For, ‘Thou art Peter’ and not ‘Thou art the rock’ was said to him. But ‘the rock was Christ,’ in confessing whom, as also the whole Church confesses, Simon was called Peter. But let the reader decide which of these two opinions is the more probable (The Fathers of the Church (Washington D.C., Catholic University, 1968), Saint Augustine, The Retractations Chapter 20.1).

Such as purgatory(denying Christs sanctity-even EO calls you all out for this blasphemy), Assumption of Mary(no Biblical evidence-feeds to Maryian Doctrine), Praying to Saints or as some of you say,”Praying with,” which again has no basis in scripture and in fact violates having no other gods before God, your excess veneration of Mary which is actually worship in 3rd world countries(failure of your church), citing Mary as a co-redeemer which is another blasphemous doctrine(Mary did not die for you nor does it make since regarding the fact she said herself she needs a savior. How can she be part of that redemption if she herself is of need of it, works+faith=salvation(heretical) as Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 11:6, Titus 2:14, John 1:12, Galatians 2:16, Romans 4:5, Philippians 3:9, Romans 4:3, James 2:23, Genesis 15:6, Titus 3:5, Habakkuk 2:4, Luke 7:50, you are saved by Faith alone and through your faith do you work(that’s the entire message of James 2), etc doctrines. I also assume you’re one of “those” people who deny anyone outside the RCC although still in Christ, are saved in Him. To deny that they are not saved still is the biggest Hersey(John 3:16-18, John 4:16, Acts 4:12, John 17:3, Matthew 19:25-26, Romans 8:38-39, Hebrews 7:25, etc.

The Roman Catholic claim is not that Apostolic Succession comes only through St. Peter. The Apostolic Succession in the order of episcopal consecration can come from any of the Twelve. We claim however, the episcopacy can only be canonically exercised in communion with St. Peter or the canonic successors of St. Peter.

I'm not extremely knowledgable about either church, but I also think that we should not be so concerned about who has what saints, who came from who, who's been around the longest, and so on. As far as I can tell, whether you're Orthodox, Catholic, or Protestant, you have put your faith in Christ and have declared your love for your father who's created you, you have a hatred of the sin that compels you to fall, and you have faith that you are saved through Christ. Let the holy spirit then guide you in your life, grow in your knowledge in the bible, repent from sin where you see it, let your actions be a reflection of your faith, and know that no matter what, you are dead to the sin that once bound you, and you have been given the gift of eternal life by Christ. If there is one thing Christ brought to us, it is the certainty that through our faith in Christ alone are we saved, not through which church, denomination, group, philosophy, or any other thing you can imagine.

Paul spoke. Peter spoke.Then James announced his ruling. The decision applied to all Christians not just Jerusalem. In so much as there was a first Pope it was James. As far as I know Peter was never Bishop of Rome. When Peter got there ( and it is not in the Bible) there was already a bishop. Peter was a visiting Apostle, not the local authority.
