I feel I must once again put on my tinfoil hat and talk my music theory: I think the PAL version is actually the *only* one that plays the right music during the Sorceress battle. I think that what ended up as Spike's theme was *meant* to be the Sorceress's theme and vice versa. There are two reasons for this: The more subjective one is that Spike's theme kinda just sounds a lot more ominous and climactic, but also... Spike's theme samples Agent 9's theme. And the Sorceress's Arena theme feels like it takes at least some cues with the instrumentation from Sgt. Byrd's theme. This is odd considering that Sgt. Byrd fights alongside Spyro against Spike, while Agent 9 fights alongside him VS the Sorceress. So yeah. I feel like at some point someone got those two tracks mixed up and it was never corrected.

I've seen so many Spyro fans praise Spyro 2 as being the pinnacle of the trilogy despite them complaining about so much stuff like the minigames, and yet they bash Spyro 3 even though it does a lot of the same things yet does those things way better, as you so extensively discussed here. Thank you so much for sticking up for Spyro 3, man. I hope it gives the game a lot more credit than what many other fans give when comparing it to the second game. Well done for such a detailed and well though-out review.

@thelordstarfish4 жыл бұрын
For my part... I think it mostly comes down to the fact that so many of Spyro 3's minigames are so *drastically* different from the main gameplay loop and just don't feel as satisfying. I simply don't find any of the new characters as fun to control as Spyro himself, and stuff like the submarine mini-sections are... kinda tragic. Skateboarding *was* fun in the original, but in the remake it's hampered significantly by them clearly not having enough time to properly iron out the physics of them, and this just annoyed me far worse than anything in 2. Like, I beat the Sasquatch Six... but it didn't feel like *my* accomplishment because I'm pretty sure the game just bugged out and somehow *despawned all my opponents* while I was in first place.
@ultrairrelevantnobody18624 жыл бұрын
"drastically different from the main gameplay loop" Platforming, exploration, combat, confined levels that provide tight pacing, collecting gems and eggs, defeating enemies along the way, etc. The playstyles have different control schemes, but that's really it. If people for some reason find the differing playstyles in Sonic Adventure 2 "drastic" from each other, then I don't know what to say.
@duffman184 жыл бұрын
Spyro 3 is the pinnacle of 3D platformers. It's still the best one ever. Legit. I spent dozens of hours just playing the _DEMO_ of Spyro 3. I spent so long just playing the skateboarding section, the flying penguin in the cave section, the huge 100 ft jumping in the air kangaroo section, etc. I'd just play the demo over and over and over. The demo is one of the my most played games ever, it's actually probably 100s of hours I put into that baby. Thank you Powerstation magazine, I think it was, for putting that demo on one of your demo discs. It was years before I eventually bought the whole game, for a few quid second hand well into the PS2 era, and the full game blew me away with how good it is. The other characters make it. It's the 3D platformer with the most variety ever, except perhaps Mario Odyssey which has taken that crown, maybeand. The fun of Mario Odyssey is how completely different each character controls, like it's an entirely different game. Spyro 3 did that 20 years before Odyssey. The other characters aren't just gimmicks. Each one is way more fleshed out than even just the main characters in most other 3D platformers. And now it's my favourite game once again, on switch. Playing it on the go is absolutely insane to me, my 10 year old self 20 years ago would be mind blown by the switch honestly. It's not the best looking and running version but I play it more than I play the PC version on my gaming PC. I'm not fussy at all about 30 FPS. The original version was 30 FPS as well, and I'm an old man now, so I don't care. Fun games are fun games. I'd have paid £60 just for ports of the original trilogy let alone a graphically updated one. Spyro 3 you are the absolute best 3D platformer ever. I've tried so many others, and nothing captures that insane fun of Spyro and the feeling you get when just fucking around not even taking it seriously and trying to collect everything 100%. It technically is a collectathon but the whole feel of it is entirely different to say a Banjo Kazooie type platformer. In Spyro the fun comes from the actual running around, the abilities all your characters have. Simply jumping and gliding around is fun on its own. You don't need to collect stuff really, that's not the point of it. It's more like a mario 64 style game in that sense I guess. Mario 64 was designed first and foremost to just be fun simply to run and jump, before any of the level design and mission objectives and everything was conceived of. And Spyro 3 takes that philosophy and runs (and glides) with it. Each different character plays completely differently and is incredibly fleshed out and fun on its own just wandering around.

If history teaches us anything it's that gamers rarely have any clue what they want and constantly change their minds. Remember when Legend of Zelda Windwaker came out and everybody hated it cuz it wasn't realistic enough? Then after Twilight Princess came out they all shut up and backtracked to loving the cute cartoon style and now Windwaker is considered a classic? Spyro is easily the best of the trilogy but gets shit on constantly, and Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage is hot garbage in gameplay and story and glitches and physics but is constantly praised as the best in the trilogy. One thing that I really wish they'd done with the remake was add more to it. Year of the Dragon feels grander because everyone is banding together to fight the Sorceress. The NPCs you help in the levels help you in return by building vehicles to get to different realms. Until you reach Midnight Mountain, where the NPCs disappear despite going through the portals. They could have had each character from that realm help to open the door to the final boss. It would have made the fact that they added a portal flying sequence before you fight the Sorceress much more of an epic bookend.

Agreed. I feel these games, alongside the N. Sane Trilogy could've really benefited from more of a re-imagine to the story and cutscenes. 1:21:55 & 1:22:53 OK I'M SO GLAD SOMEONE POINTED THIS OUT ABOUT THE CONTROLS ON SWITCH AND LET ME TELL YOU WHY! For some odd reason, in the Switch version of the Reignited Trilogy, no matter what controller you use, pushing the left analog stick in any of the 4 diagonal directions DRAMATICALLY cuts your speed in half to the point it's almost at walking speed. This also affects flying controls as you can't move up or down fast enough diagonally, w/out resorting to the d-pad. It's most noticeable when playing as any of the extra characters in Spyro 3. You've probably never noticed Spyro's own speed getting cut while running, but I think his animations and general speed are just really smooth to counteract the decreased speed, but it's still somewhat noticeable while jumping. They never patched this issue in the Switch version, and the only way to get around it is to use the D-Pad, as for whatever reason wasn't affected by this weird glitch.

I'm willing to excuse the backtracking for a reason I don't really hear anyone mention. Sheila and Sgt. Byrd are unlocked in the first half of the game, so they can easily get stages to themselves throughout the rest of the game. Whereas Bentley & Agent 9 are unlocked in the second half, so without backtracking you have have fewer chances to experience their playstyles. Alternately, the game could just be backloaded with their levels (which it does a tiny bit), making the game feel a little lopsided in terms of alternate characters. So I felt a few points of backtracking were acceptable for a more level experience overall. Also, was this video really 2 hours long? I was so engaged the whole time I hardly even noticed haha

As for glitches, I had a bad time with them at one specific point. The skate park. As you mentioned, getting the skill point required almost perfect play. With things like this, I tend to overextend a lot and go for bigger tricks than I really need to, and end up having a lot more trouble then I should as a result. I also kinda suck at them. As a result, I played this section over and over for hours. While I had a few runs ruined by the game just ignoring that I completed a lap, there was one much bigger issue that I had. It seems that replaying this so much (or maybe hitting the restart option so much) does something weird to the gameplay. I'm not really sensitive to things like framerate or things like that, so I couldn't point out exactly what was wrong, but something screwed up to the point where the game became really hard to control. Once I figured out that there was something drastically wrong, and completely shut down the game and restarted to fix it, the section was drastically easier and I completed the skill point quite quickly. Pointless, I know, but it is a story I just had to share somewhere
@Rilesjean4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure lost fleet just had a lot of issues in general. Such as, like you mentioned, replaying the race too many times bogging down the whole thing and making it hard to control. There is also an issue with sometimes the Rhynocs will just... be gone... or a glitch that got patched out where a certain NPC would be missing
@Myros594 жыл бұрын
When I played the Reignited version, it took me over an hour to get the skill point in the last skateboard minigame, the one where you have to finish the track in a certain time, because of how broken the skateboard gameplay is in this version... and a really weird glitch happened. The more time passed, the slower the game was running. And I'm not saying the framerate was going down or anything, the game literally was consistantly slowing down. This ironically helped me because I had more control over the skateboard and could time my tricks better, but yeah, by the time I got the skill point, the game was running at like... x0.75 the normal speed. And it kept doing that even after I went out of the skateboard area. I had to close the game and launch it again for everything to work well normally again. That was a strange experience. Another thing I'd like to mention is that the French version of the Reignited Trilogy was retranslated and recasted compared to the original PS1 version. The voices are less cartoony, which I'm not a fan of, and a lot of characters had a name change. This mostly concerns one-off characters you encounter inside of the different worlds (basically, they kept their English names, whereas on PS1 they had different names), but the biggest offender is Moneybags. He used to be called "Gros-Sous," which is a money pun, and now it's just... "Richard." I guess it still counts as a money pun, but it's also just a random name, and a completely unnecessary change.

I felt like the races were way harder in reignited simply because I wasn't used to how slippery flying is. The stars felt like a hindrance due to how much more difficult it is to turn once you boost through them. I don't think back tracking is all that much of a negative. I think sometimes it can even be fun. Also I really don't care for speed runner's needs. Maximizing efficiency can be amusing, but if I wanted to play a game really really fast, I'd play a game designed around it. E.G. sonic 1-3 or other similar game styles. Speed running is not a universal standard to rate games by, and as such, I really don't care to hear about how a game isn't friendly to speed runners. Radicola. Yeah. Backtracking wouldn't be an problem if it's done right & not breaks the paste of the game. Spyro 2 & 3 does it better since they're optional and more faat paste. But games like Banjo-Tooie didn't do that very well because of the overloaded complex & pacing issue.

43:40 "Similarly Relaxing Harmonics" I think you mean Harmonies. Harmonics relate to the distinct spectral "fingerprint lines" of an instruments timbre, each distinct place in the frequency spectrum which gives the sound its unique character. You're essentially saying the Timbre is similar and I think you meant "similarly sounding pad/instruments and harmonies/chords/tones" from your descriptions of the tracks in question. The Former was far brighter in the Treble range while the Latter was much muted and Warmer in the middle, so surely you couldn't be talking about Timbre.

Thanks so much for this staggering retrospective of all 3 games! I just fully completed all 3 Spyro games on the Reiginited Collection recently playing alongside your reviews leading up to this one where I finished a couple days before this video got out. Upon finishing Spyro 3 this time, which used to be my least favorite in the trilogy, I soon found out it's probably my absolute favorite! The backtracking I thought was more severe actually was alleviated in comparison to Spyro 2 now that the levels that incorporated it (Bamboo Terrace, Fireworks Factory and Molten Crater) actually kept shortcuts open upon the revisit. In Spyro 2, which I used to think was my favorite, I quickly became annoyed at all the things you addressed in that video on the game. The only thing that keeps me off holding any of the Reignited games above their original counterparts is the art style, character and overall atmosphere the game allots. I just think some things were lost in the translation towards Reignited that diluted some of the charm the original games possessed such as removing the valley-girl accents on the Fawns in Fracture Hills, or ridding of Hunter's bumbling fool/stoner status, or changing the whispering voices of the bird guys in Frozen Altars which was always hilarious to me or the fact that even Spyro lost his edge in Spyro 1. Sure, he lost it a little bit in the PS1 trilogy going into Spyro 2 and 3, but it was far less severe than the now-starry eyed Spyro we get in Reignited which I think ruins some of his initial appeal (albeit it was very 90's). No matter what, glad the remakes exist if only for the fact that we may see a Spyro 4 in the same vain we're seeing Crash 4 now. Keep up the great work EPG!

Spyro 3 is possibly my favourite from the trilogy too (always changes between this and Spyro 1) and I agree with a lot of your points. I didn't encounter any glitches in my first playthrough of Spyro 3 Reignited and subsequent playthrough showed only minor ones. Spyro 3 also has arguably the best dialogue and character interactions out of the whole trilogy.

I'm surprised that you somewhat defended the Switch version. I was kind of expecting you to tear it apart due to the major graphical downgrade and bad performance. I always thought I was weird for preferring that version the most since I don't have high standards for that kind of stuff and portability for my favorite games always gets me instantly sold on it.

Great review! Most people critique Spyro 3 for diverting too much from Spyro and his core gameplay so it's refreshing hearing a reviewer actually challenge that sentiment. Very well paced and a joy to listen to as well! Haven't played the Spyro trilogy as of yet but after watching all three of these reviews I can safely say that I'm very interested now. 1:32:10 During Bentley's section of Bamboo Terrace sometimes TNT will roll down, and you can reflect them back with that move, the problem is they rarely spawn in TNT, so honestly you're excused for not being aware of that. Also there's one glitch with Lost Fleet I guess you didn't notice, but if you do the skateboarding race and retry it over and over, it will start to slow down the game, and the only way to get it to work at the right speed is to quit out of the game completely and come back in. Because of the collision detection honestly being nowhere as good as the original game I struggled a lot doing the races and trying to get the skill point, and quickly found out about this glitch.

I've been playing 'Pre-Greatest Hits Spyro 3' for over 20 years and I've only just now learned that the final boss battle actually had it's own theme, and that it WASN'T supposed to reuse the first hub world's theme. I always thought it was an intentional choice, and even as a kid I thought it sucked the boss didn't have a cool, unique theme that fit the fight. I can't even describe how shook I am right now.

Why the flipping shite the mic is necessary now and can't take it off without missing voice clips like in Resident Evil 4 Remake's phone calls and weapon loading. On PS4 muting the controller's mic the stuff comes from a TV, on PS5 the sounds are just gone. What a miserable console. Sony went to shit when they moved to California.

I recently re-played Spyro 2 & 3 back-to-back for the first time in years and while it was a tough choice, I think Spyro 2 comes out on top, ironically with the need to backtrack being a big part of why I feel that way. The problem with being able to 100% every level on your first go is that it makes everything feel transient; the levels in Year of the Dragon were extremely fun to play, but once I 100%'d them they stopped feeling real and felt more like empty husks, and the lack of any reason to go back made it hard to feel immersed in the world. The need to go back to previous stages in Ripto's Rage on the other hand built an attachment to the world and inhabitants of Avalar for me and made it feel like a real place. I also personally found Spyro 2 to be a lot more challenging than Spyro 3 in a good way: there were more moments of frustration and tedium with the minigames in Spyro 2 compared to Spyro 3, but also A LOT more moments of engaging challenge that created a real sense of accomplishment for me compared to the third game, which I overall found very easy. I should replay the first Spyro, but I find it kind of hard to find the motivation to go back to it. Like Exo points out it has a huge open-world element to it and I can appreciate why it'd be some people's favorite, but for me the lack of variety in the visual design (a visual design that I don't find particularly appealing to begin with) makes it less appealing for me.
@ultrairrelevantnobody18624 жыл бұрын
Well sorry but I don't agree. I never liked the backtracking in the second game and never will. It came off more like padding than actual immersion, and having to do levels all over again only added to that feeling of padding. In fact, level resetting is a major problem I have with Spyro 2. This means that skipping side-games comes at the cost of having to do levels again, especially if the side-games are at the near end of the stages. Essentially, if I wanted to play Spyro 2 to full completion, very rarely would I deviate or skip because it will just be a blatant waste of time, and life is short so I have to play by the cards to minimise as much of the dead weight as possible. This makes for a very restrictive experience that doesn't offer comfortable replay value. It makes the 100% experience grow to become repetitive overall. The less said about the supposedly important yet redundant Talismans, the better. Also, I'm surprised someone would say 2 is harder. Replaying both games, 3 was the most difficult since I retried more times than in the first two games. I don't even remember ever getting a Game Over in Spyro 2, yet I get it once or at the most twice whenever I replay 1 and 3. Then again, I found Tomb Raider 3 to be easier than 2 despite its reputation as the hardest of the Core Design series, so I guess different skill sets for different people.

Holy shit, this has by far been your longest ROR ever, Exo! XD I remember back in the day where you kinda dreaded the idea of having reviews that were an hour long, or even longer. Nowadays, that seems to be somewhat of a standard ever since the long-awaited Super Mario 64 ROR video. lol Regardless, this has been another solid Remake Or Rebreak video! It's thanks to you that I've come to appreciate Spyro 3 a lot more these days, and have greatly preferred it over its predecessor! It absolutely gets my vote as well for best game on PlayStation, and has definitely become 1 of my FGOATs as well (which I'm kinda surprised you didn't say that at all seeing as how you said favorite game of all time a lot near the end of the video, but, I seriously digress)! :D This game looks gorgeous, has even better bosses (with a handful of exceptions here, and there), amazing story, well developed, and memorable characters, fantastic new game-play with 5 new playable characters, breathtaking graphics, greatly designed levels that loop back to the start with some convenient shortcuts (though, I'm not sure why the new characters' introduction stages are more linear since there's some backtracking which the remake doesn't improve) wonderful character models, and expressions, excellent villain (or "villainess" in The Sorceress's case), (mostly) fun mini-games, and kick-ass melodies! I do agree that the developers absolutely missed out on giving Spyro, and The Sorceress some conversations every once in a while since Spyro, and Ripto had a handful of interactions in the last game, granted, they were all very brief, but, that's still more than The Sorceress, and especially Gnasty Gnorc ever got, I mean, I don't see the reason of why not doing so when there's newly spoken dialogue by Sargent Byrd, Bentley, and Agent 9 for every new movie before entering the boss (although, I don't know why Shelia didn't get 1 in the movie that first introduced The Sorceress), plus, it would've given Spyro more character development in the game, not to mention Spyro 1, and 2 Reignited still recycled the exact same flawed scripts verbatim. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of a handful of these mini-games either such as the Firefly guarding one with Sheila, the boss fight against the 2 Chinese dragons (as much as I do love the idea on paper), as well as the hovercraft 2-round shootout in Haunted Tomb (I personally find it a bit too annoying for my tastes especially when you're trying to hit the fodder with the cannon to recover health), and without a doubt the Yeti boxing mini-game, the worst part in the entire PS trilogy, completely wasting 1 of Bentley's sections, and it aggravates me that Toys For Bob still kept it in yet replaced the original epilogue with an art gallery like in Spyro 2 Reignited, along with changing overhead camera angles in to the standard platforming camera, again, like Spyro 2 Reignited, which makes Nancy's ice-dancing mini-game more frustrating to play (not to mention whenever Nancy gets attacked by 1 of the Rhynoc hockey players she doesn't even get knocked down, just remains stationary, so, there's no reason to start over much like how the Alchemist's potion no longer breaks in Spyro 2 Reignited if he gets hit). I do kinda miss the intro, and outro movies from the 2nd game, and wished they returned, and improved them, though at the same time I'm fine without them. It does suck that Year Of The Dragon does have a handful of subversion, and contrivances like its predecessor. I do wish we could see the Professor, and Elora a little more especially considering the ladder only shows up in the last movies. It is a shame that Bentley's 3rd section is entirely wasted by a shite boxing mini-game against the (somehow still alive) yeti from Colossus in Spyro 2 instead of perhaps a potential boss fight against an even bigger evil snowman with adding in the reflector club that's only used in his introductory stage, and never used again, likewise, I think the 4 new characters should've gotten equal levels, and it would've been great to have them playable, and racking up Gems in each of their sections in Super Bonus Round rather than bringing back that mediocre submarine-shooting mini-game. It's also a bit of a disappointment that Sargent Byrd, and Agent 9 don't get to use their secondary weapons all that much. I feel like some of the Skill Points should've gone to the main bosses to replace some of the filler ones since their health bars aren't as beefy as Ripto's, and especially Gulp. I find it somewhat baffling that the game doesn't tell you that you can strafe by setting the camera to Passive which the remake doesn't fix, as well as not updating Sparx's moving controls to the analog stick like it did with Agent 9's. I don't get why Sargent Byrd's theme mainly plays in Enchanted Towers (or why all 4 of Sparx's levels reuses the game's main theme instead of having a different for each) when there are sections that play a different track that should've been the level's main theme, as well as bringing back the 8-bone collecting mini-game from the 2nd game instead something a bit more original. Same here, Spyro 2, and 3 should've used the 1st game's rule of having characters move in the movies when speaking to NPCs instead of just having stock animations. Don't forget that there's a hidden item on the ceiling in Agent 9's section in Fireworks Factory that if you shoot at it you'll get a lot of ammo, and thus, making it much easier. I do unfortunately have the vanilla, black-labeled version (though, that was also because I got this game on Christmas 2000, I believe, so not too long after the game's official launch) which explains a lot of repeated tracks, next time I'll be sure to try, and pick up the superior green-labeled version. I do think as well that Bentley, and Agent 9 could've use more platforming in their sections. Well, at least now I know where the eggs came from, lol. It's great to see Stephen Vankov take a bit more risk with the music this time around, but, I think he still could've done a lot more since a majority of soundtrack still sounds nearly identical to the original. It is a missed opportunity to not include motion controls as an option in this remake. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Lost Fleet myself despite the fact that there's still plenty of platforming, and fun side-contents, I just don't get why I can't just grab the Gems while in the submarine as opposed to swimming in the acid, same with in the acid while invincible in the main area. I also don't get why the 1st hub-world has levels that require Dragon Eggs to open, yet, the game doesn't do that in future hub-worlds. I never thought J.B. Blanc (Moneybags) would ever surpassed Neil Ross (Moneybags) but he surprisingly managed to pull it off really well! I do wish the graphics could've been patched up to fix some of these bugs since this remake was rushed, that, and it would've been nice if the frame-rate was a bit more consistent, but at least still plays well in all versions. Regardless of all this, I still LOVE Spyro: Year Of The Dragon, and it's by far my favorite game in both the vanilla PS trilogy, and the whole series!

Ive always said 3 is by far the best in the trillogy. 2 is a great game and so is 1. But 3 takes the best parts of both games and adds 5 unique playable characters, by far the best villain in the series, and improves the aesthetics. I feel like they rushed the game to get it out in the year 2000 so it does have its own minor flaws. (Especially the black label version). But overall, Spyro is one of the few trillogys that improve with each release. Even the backtracking in 3 is better. 2s backtracking is done by forcing you to come back to a level after learning headbash or climbing sometimes literally just for an orb or a couple gems. 3s backtracking involves playing a whole new previously unaccessible part of the level.

Caddicarus is going to have a near impossible time topping this. Great work as usual Exo. A few flaws here and there, but I can let them slide. Very informative, constructive and even opened my eyes on a few things that past me by. A guy by the name of "fettfive" once said that Spyro 3 is the superior version of what Donkey Kong 64 was trying to be. I have played both games and I can agree. DK64 was very promising at first and I was digging it, but it gradually became more tedious and repetitive due to how it's structured and designed. I don't have much interest in completing the game as a result. As for Spyro 3, what started out as a game I originally accepted as "good" eventually grew to being one of the best PS1 games to replay. I've replayed the original trilogy nearly two months ago and as much as I respect Spyro 2, it's not a game I have much fun with especially when I can just play the other two games instead. Spyro 1 is the best if I just want a pure platformer, but I'm not a hardcore purist, let alone an obnoxious one. I usually prefer to have variety in my games, so my favourite is obviously the third entry. Spyro 1 rewarded exploration, Spyro 2 focused on side-content for nearly the entire game. Spyro 3 nails the balance with more than half of the eggs found in the main sections of the levels, and nearly half being found in mini games or challenges. It also helps that the side-content is a major improvement. There's far less reliance on tedious fetch quests and meandering escort missions, and more of an emphasis on actual minigames that do a much better job on testing the player's skills. There's vehicles (that control better than they have any right to), there's shifting genres, there's different playable characters, and there's straightforward challenges that feel like homages to some of the more difficult parts of Spyro 1. Also, the vehicles and playable characters combined only take up nearly one third of the game, which is a decent amount, but it's still mostly Spyro. Plus, the core principles of Spyro's design are still present for the most part. Collecting gems and eggs, killing enemies, small and confined levels that prevent the simple act of collecting from being a sluggish chore, etc. Backtracking is now meaningful and there's a lot less reliance on time-wasting repetition thanks to the game bringing back shortcuts akin to Spyro 1. I do have a few issues with Spyro 3, even though they don't ruin the fun factor much. Bentley and Agent 9 aren't as fleshed out or as enjoyable as Sheila and Sgt. Byrd (Bentley is just an amusing distraction, and Agent 9, as fun as he is, really feels like a prototype of Ratchet & Clank, which I haven't played yet admittedly), and there are several minigames that kind of suck with Yeti Boxing sticking out the most like a sore thumb. Lost Fleet and Dino Mines aren't exactly stages I look forward to aside from a few minigames, and the Sorceress is an anticlimactic final boss, even though the boss fights are a step up from the first two games. That's really it. A phenomenal 3D platformer all around (10/10) and a game that's easy to recommend. I would recommend all three games, but if one is forced to choose, make it either Spyro 1 or Spyro 3 depending on what they're looking for. EXTRA: If I was to rank my top ten 5th Gen 3D platformers (from what I've played), it would go like this. You'll see where this game ranks overall. 1. Spyro 3 😉 2. Crash 3 3. Super Mario 64 4. Toy Story 2 5. Tomb Raider 1 6. Tomb Raider 3 7. Tomb Raider 4 8. A Bug's Life 9. Spyro 1 10. Crash 2

Here's a long paragraph: Exo has so many terms, he better makes his own dictionary. Seriously, every time Remake or Rebreak is brought up, Exo has to explain what it is, and the same goes with the "Gruntilda Effect." Also, I was shocked by the fact that this video is 2 hours long. I remember Exo made videos that were 15 minutes long. I love how the graphics take about 10 minutes to explain. It's not that it's a bad thing, it's evident that Exo understands what graphics are and tells how they work. Personally, the fact that a game is playable on the go should go into effect of the rating. Speaking of ratings, you showed the wrong box art for the game where it showed a Teen rating, though I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I feel you should've actually shown snippets of the soundtrack when describing a specific song as you do in your Conker's Bad Fur Day ROR. 👈 Also, video editing is really well done, especially when comparing Spyro 3's map. I do feel that complaining that a game removed glitches isn't fair since that's not what the game intended. They needed to remove glitches to avoid cheating (the reason you didn't use the level select code for the Sonic games), as mentioned in 1:06:08 (the word "unfortunately" suggests you didn't like that they removed glitches). I also feel you're leaving out pauses too much, as evidenced in 1:08:47. These are really easy to catch in a video editor and could've been entirely cut out of the video. I mean, you did criticize the Banjo-Tooie remake's intro for a similar reason. You should also get a thesaurus as you said "frustrating" about 5 times. Grammarly can give you the other synonym to choose from. 😎 Having a "core" is pretty useful and is something I should do when critiquing games. Speaking of Spyro 3 feeling it wasn't that long, your review was just the same way, but that may be because I skipped the story section. You know how to make your script very engaging to listen to, I don't think I ever clicked on another tab (though I was using Grammarly to type out a comment). ✌️

Reignited trilogy's sorceress comes off less threatening and moneybags comes off less funny and is more mean. Bianca also comes off as less strong and Hunter is less likeable and warm. Unlike what you said, in my and others experience sheila's RT kicks really got botched. Not only do they have less range and stop your momentum, but I was literally kicking directly on gem vases and enemies' backs in Sheila's Alp and they did nothing. But the new animations, as well as stage warping and sparx gem finding being available from the start in RT is great.

Great video. Over the years I've kind of had a recurring joke I kept to myself whenever I saw one of your longer reviews starting back with mario 64, basically with that review I called it EPG: The Movie and every review that has been longer has gotten that title. So this video now lays claim to the title of EPG: The Movie, being one of your most extensive reviews to date. Keep up the good work as it is appreciated, but after your Majora's Mask video (based on what I've seen on twitter) I hope you take it easy with either a break or by doing a smaller ROR or EPG Review As for my experience with the game I'm going to be brief. I've recently been playing some Spyro games and so far 3 has been my favorite. I avoided most of the problems I have with most collectathons until the very end, where the eggs required to get to the final boss is high (you need 2/3 of the eggs) plus the final levels existing only in their capacity to provide eggs, but until that point it was a pretty good experience and I can see myself going back for more any percent runs.

1:22:14 Imagine being punished for ragequitting, an extra "fuck you" on top of the unforgiving design of the minigame.

the only time i ran into a glitch was when i was doing the yeti race at the end, I would come off of a ramp and expect to land on the proceeding path ahead of me but there were times where i'd get clipped into the level geometry and have to start the race over again, but that's about it.

If he takes 24 minutes discussing the story of a platformer, how long would an RPG take him?

I’ve always preferred The old voice of Sheila but the new one pretty good to and like the original has a great Australian accent.

I always had the black version of YotD, so I never knew that the Scorceress's final boss music WASN'T supposed to be the same from Sunrise Spring. Reignited Trilogy was literally the first time I heard ANY of the music the way it was supposed to be. I love Honey Speedway!

I put this in the comments for the Spyro 2, but I'll do it again to hope more people (especially Exo) notices it. The scores for every ROR so far, with my guesses for what the earlier ones would be based on what Exo said in the videos: Super Mario Bros. Deluxe: Remake (This was back when there were only two scores; Exo said in its comments that it would be a reprise today. Well, Re-Meh, but that was before that score was renamed.) Super Mario Advance (Remake of Super Mario Bros. 2) Remake (Would probably be a Replace today given that he called the definitive version) Super Mario Advance 2: Remake (Since it doesn't change that much, it would probably be a Remaster. ) Super Mario Advance 3: Remake (Another likely Remaster) Super Mario Advance 4: Remake (Might have gotten a Replace, but I'm not too certain.) Super Mario All-Stars: Remake (Probably a Replace regarding SMB1 and 2 and a Remake regarding SMB3 since he said the GBA version was slightly better.) This is where the scores 1-4 first appear . Sonic The Hedgehog iOS/Android: Replace Sonic The Hedgehog 2 iOS/Android: Replace Sonic CD iOS/Android: Remake Donkey Kong Country GBA: Remake (Stated in the video to be between Remake and Re-Meh but edged out towards the former, so Remaster today. ) Donkey Kong Country 2 GBA: Remake (It would probably stay that way.) Donkey Kong Country 3 GBA: Remake (Shown in the Banjo-Kazooie video to be an example of a Remaster) A Link To The Past and Four Swords: Remake (It's his preferred version, so it'd stay that way.) Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis: Rebreak! Sonic Adventure DX: Directors Cut: Remake Sonic Adventure PS3/Xbox 360/PC: Reprise (The Better SADX Mod for PC makes it the best version, though.) Sonic Adventure 2: Battle: Remake Sonic Adventure 2 PS3/Xbox360/PC: Reprise Klonoa: Door to Phantomile Wii: Remake Another Metroid 2 Remake: Replace Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland: Remake Kirby Super Star Ultra: Replace Super Mario 64 DS: Replace Conker: Live and Reloaded: Remake Pac-Man World GBA: Rebreak Mega Man & Bass: Reprise Ocarina of Time GCN: Reprise Ocarina of Time 3DS: Replace Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions: Remake Luigi's Mansion 3DS: Reprise The current 1-5 score starts here. Banjo-Kazooie XBLA: Remake Banjo Tooie XBLA: Remaster Spyro The Dragon Reignited: Remake Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage Reignited: Remaster Spyro 3: Year of The Dreagon Reignited: Watch the video.
