ROR: Super Mario Bros. 2 Vs. Super Mario Advance

It's my longest review yet! And of all things, it's a review of Super Mario Bros. 2. I also take a short look at the NES and GBA versions of Mario Bros. Arcade. So, Super Mario Bros. 2 is obviously a rather hit or miss installment in the classic series, but how does the GBA remake stack up? Well, watch the damn video and find out. What many people fail to realize is that though Mario 2 was a dream, it actually happened. Subcon and Wart actually existed and many of Wart's minions would move on to serve Bowser.

That’s the only way to make an “all just a dream” ending actually good. The dream world has to be just as real as the waking world, and it has to actually impact the plot of the waking world (not as in teaching the main character a lesson, I mean as in “who lives and who dies”.)

I've always interpreted the ending in a way that Subcon existed and Mario & Co. were transported into it through their dreams. Yeah, its a bit of an ass pull, but much less of a middle finger than saying "it never happened, all a dream."

man I was so lucky to be born with parents who loved their childhood games and showed them to me. I really got into gaming in 08 so the virtual console was gaining popularity, thats how I experienced mario 1,2,3,world and 64 along with ocarina of time and sonic 2 so even if I was born in the 21st century I still have memories of playing games that people 20 years before would be playing.

I don't think anyone really got screwed. My guess is since Fuji TV owned the Doki Doki Panic protagonists (they were the mascots of the Dream Factory event), Nintendo could release Super Mario Bros. 2 as Super Mario USA in Japan without having to pay Fuji extra money (kind of like how when they re-released Punch Out with Mr. Dream after the Mike Tyson deal expired). At least, I think that's the deal. Again, it's just a guess.

Oh, man. Super Mario Advance is one of the games I played so much so on my DS Lite without knowing it was from the GameBoy Advance. Thinking about this game more is just genius. Exploring every level as long as you want is something that inspired exploration of Yoshi’s Island (SNES and GBA), Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Odyssey. Super Mario Advance is a game I still like playing to this day and has a special place in my heart.

I LOVE Super Mario Advance! Wow, I spent so many hours finding all the coins, mushrooms, and yoshi eggs. I always found the ability to take off Birdo's bow funny just for the sound it makes. And Peach is definitely the best character, you can skip so much of the level using her. This was a nice review. Love seeing one of my old favorites getting some recognition.

I might sound weird here, but Super Mario Advance 1 and 2 are so nostalgic for me it's difficult for me to play without getting emotional for some reason. I think it's because I played it durring my formative years when my family was still together and I was so young when we were all unfairly broken up and playing it just brings back a slew of memories of happier times. It's like a time-capsule in that regard.

Super Mario Bros 2 (GBA) was my first mario game and my first non-3d game (as I had a PS2 before it. Even then, this was one of my favourite games at the time to the point that I completed the Yoshi challenge. The addition of mario bros was also nice when you wanted to take a break from the main game although it really confused me when I had 3 versions of the game (as I bought the first 3 mario advanced games).

I can assure you the slot machine game on the NES port is not luck, it's skill. I can, and have many times, gotten well over 100 lives by getting all cherries. It's timing, just pick up the beat of the cherry and you'll end up with more lives than you need. Fun fact: when you get over 100 lives, the counter for lives switches to letters. A00 (100), B10 (110), C20 (120).

Just a year ago, after I found my brother's GBA SP, along with LOZ:The Minish Cap inserted in it, that's been stowed away in a drawer after years of not being played with, Super Mario Advance was the first GBA game I bought for myself after I found the GBA SP just a year ago. I was at first, expecting the original 1985 SMB port. But then, as I played Super Mario Advance, I found it to be a pretty fun engaging game. I think Super Mario Advance deserves a REPLACE score. I'm glad I don't have to fuss problems with the original SMB2.

Another 2000s Super Mario game that has ♥️s as a life bar (but starts us off with six hearts making the game pretty generous) is Bowser’s Valley. The Super Mario Advance tetralogy is underrated, and ExoParadigmGamer proved us why in one of his slightly later Remake or Rebreaks on Donkey Kong Country 1 with the Whiny Bitch Gamer cameo (still waiting for his series to get a revival and be expanded upon with “Why The Second Reality Project Reloaded is the WURST GAME IN THE WURLD!!! my introduction to mario was when i was in fourth grade back in 2004. one of the books in my classroom was a choose-your-own-adventure style book based on the GBA remake of mario 2. the book started with choosing mario, luigi, toad, or peach and you would stay with that character for the rest of the book. a nice touch that it had was that if you came across something that character couldn't do, the book would actually mention who could. for example, it said there was a waterfall too high for you jump to the top of, so it wasn't one of your options, but it did say luigi might be able to. if you got to that part with luigi, it would let you pick to jump to the top of the waterfall.

I just noticed that Nintendo is just turning classic games into what I call "2.5D Mario Games". These include Mario 3D Land and 3D World, where it's 3D like Mario Sunshine (best game ever) but there's the same flagpole-grabbing, starcoin-collecting stuff. 3D Land is really blasting to the past, back to SMB3 with the tanooki suit. It also brought back Airships. Then, 3D World brought back a bunch of features from SMB2. You could play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad. There are Cherries, too (with a new use)

SMB2 is one of my favourites to this day. 28 years and counting, I still love sitting down every couple of months and playing through from start to finish. The best way to defeat the mini Fry Guys is to trap them in the centre by piling two mushroom blocks on either side of the dip, then standing just behind one of the stacks. They will all be attracted to you will begin bouncing off the mushroom blocks and landing in the same area. Once they're jumping together, you can then stand on one of the higher blocks and take them all out at the same time with the remaining mushroom block. This prevents them from gaining power like they do when you knock them out one by one.

I recommend the GBA version of Super Mario Brs. 2 USA (aka Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic) because the GBA version of the game saves your progress and you can continue where you left off.

20:13 some attention to detail that I love about the arcade version of Mario Bros is that it simply explains touch damage by showing that whenever Mario runs into a turtle, for example, it actually bites him, and it hurts like hell. Same with the crabs. Lol... Why they waited until Super Mario Bros Wonder to bring that detail back, I do not know... They tried to show it in Super Mario Bros by having a koopa troopa turn around to face you when you bump into it, but it's not as clear.

Charles Martinet is the voice actor for those bosses. He voiced many characters in the Mario series, that includes Mauser and so.

The arcade version of Mario Bros is pretty similar to the NES one. I've gotten to play it a couple times - there was a machine at Disney World and one... I can't remember where the other one I played was actually. "Remake" is a low score for that one. I'd just straight go Replace on Mario Bros.

This version triumphs the original in nearly every single way. Same goes with the GBA SMB3 version. I have not played the other two SMA remake games yet.

I only played as peach and toad as a kid: peach for the levels, toad for the bosses; sometimes Luigi to get to certain areas. Toad is extremely underrated

if you're going to compare Super Mario Bros 2 to its remake on the Advance, you really should compare it to Super Mario All Stars on the SNES, which if you owned it, you also had the "battle mode" for SM3 which while not identical to the "Mario Bros" version included on the GBA cartridge is a pretty clear inspiration (even if the original game itself is what they were remaking in the Advance version, going the extra mile)

13:30 if you think THAT'S creepy (which it is), Doki Doki Panic has a human like mask instead of the hawk face...and the mask is painted black and other tribal colors

the gba manage to get some gorgeous graphics, this game looks mora like a SNES title here, i like that, i think the mario advance 1 and 4 ports are the definitive way to play the super mario brothers 2 and super mario brothers 3
