The jam never suffers for lack of bottom somehow, even when Jack buzzes around creatively up a little high on the neck. His melodic lines keep you busy & are the equal of the guitar as far as meriting attention without being a distraction from the soloing. What a talent! I'll forever remember him almost 60 years ago singing "Politician" with Ginger & Clapton and holding 10,000 of us hippies under his spell at The Baltimore Civic Center! Jack Bruce! Thanks, Jack!! Talent and taste beat "showmanship" and ego indulgence every single time. Flash is good for impressing the punters, but for those who actually understand music, we come to a different conclusion about what is truly impressive. It's not how fast you can play or throwing everything you know into every single song. It's about taste, and the use of space. No one understood the blues any better than Rory and Jack, and here's your proof...

While in the RAF I got on a train at Liverpool street station and went into the Buffett, to find myself talking to Jack Bruce one of my heroes. @@mvela1235 Interesting comparison. As I see it they were very different players. SRV took Jimi’s licks and attitude to stratospheric levels nobody else will ever reach. But Rory had an almost scholarly level of grounding in the old folk blues, and he could make the instrument sing like a human being. But let’s face it. Once players reach a certain level comparisons get to be a matter of taste. Every great player has his strong points - and his limitations that other players cover. . That's interesting.....never thought about it ; that does seem to have been true. With Cream, I guess when folks keep repeating "Clapton is God", writing it on city walls (saw it here recently on an overpass while on the highway. Blew my mind it's still being written ), then maybe others get brainwashed into thinking the best one has already been singled out and they roll with it and forget the rest or not give it much credence. For decades I've noticed how many music lovers knowledge of reggae stops dead cold with Bob Marley...... or maybe they dabble a little in some Peter Tosh as well or something like that.. They seem to just have this notion the whole music genre IS pretty much just Bob Marley. Ask them anything else about reggae and you'll get no real reply or display of any depth of understanding of reggae, or say " UB40 makes good reggae",, or something kinda' dumb like that. Yet, they know most other genres much deeper and can talk at length about them. My point, Bob Marley has been sold like a brand It's the number one selling artist/brand for a really long time -- shirts, music, accessories. Go around the world and you'll see the shirt -- I have many times. Well, the banding has been done so well that today when people think of reggae they instantly think of Marley. And the reverse is true as well : Marley = Reggae . In reality, not true at all but people believe it. The same may have happened with Clapton, and Bruce was the victim. Clapton = God. No need to look further. God is #1. Just pondering .........it's an interesting theory. Maybe it's been thought of already. .
